The last couple games show how badly this team needs top end talent. This team has no offensive game breakers. Other teams have too easy of a time playing against Detroit's top players and can run their lines how they want.

It's not completely officiating but that first half of the game set the tempo. They let Ottawa run around and charge at everyone. Once Ottawa knew what they could get away with, they took it to Detroit, and kudos to them. Chiarot's physicality couldve been a big help tonight, or Seider's, but nothing.

It’s tough when you need both grit and goals, because there are maybe a handful of guys in the league who really provide both. One caused us fits tonight. His brother just went for an arm and two legs. Wilson is expiring in ‘24, but he’ll be 30 and WSH won’t sell cheaply. It’s a very tough hole to fill when you’re not drafting guys that fit the bill.

Not the same archetype, but Bunting could give you a bit of sandpaper and goals this summer.

Isn't that supposed to be Bert's appeal?

With how many space fillers the team currently has you can add both pretty easily and not cost meaningful players roster spots.

I don't like what I saw either. Important game for two teams and the officiating was atrocious. Fluctuating from nothing called to chintzy shit called. I don't blame the Wings one bit for not finding any rhythm. League minimum backup can only do so much against a top 5 PP and turnstile defending.

As for messages... the most important one is to the league office. Not the Baby Ruth loving MFer on the other team.
The officiating punked them, but that's no reason to give up like they did. Not a valid excuse. And by not sending a message, it betrays a feebleness that will make things harder tomorrow night. They're going into this next game with 0 momentum after doing their best origami impression that last 20 minutes. Complaining about the officiating, or being worried about contacting the league office, is something the coaches/front office may want to pursue, but it has no effect whatsoever on the players. That has to be out of their mind.

When you say both you mean Bunting and Wilson? One more year one Wilson’s deal, not sure if I phrased that well. I do expect he’ll be a big deadline piece of healthy next year though.

Bunting would be one of my top targets this summer though.

My biggest criticism of Lalonde, maybe my only criticism that I'm really feeling, is that Chiarot is still with Hronek. It's borderline inexcusable after what we've seen work and not work through 60ish games.
He got a 4 years contract at almost 5 mil per.
Enough people said he is a bottom pairing D to begin with.
Kinda hard to bury him there with that contract?

Seider needs to set the tone tomorrow night, suckering tkachuk with a nice reverse hit in his gobby mouth.

And if we're going to take so many penalties we gotta makes sure they at least count. Cut the chinsey shit out and lay the body on 'em.

Watch us try to hit back but inexplicably get whistled for it so we'll stop?
Watch out or Bert will fall down a lot?

The Wings will show up tomorrow and they will play a hockey game. Nothing Ottawa does has any bearing on that. Hopefully the refs will let them play this time.

Tonight was a good dose of "it would be pointless to make the playoffs"
Why? Ottawa won't be there.

Hard? Sure. But at some point.... man, it's just gotta be done or else you're actively hurting your chances at winning/making the playoffs. Guess Lalonde/Yzerman don't think they're at that point yet. Feels like they are.

I was saying this to be funny but I went and looked and realized they have played the exact number of career games, which is serendipitous.

Anyone want to guess which is which?

547 GP, 35 G, 99 A, 134 P, -29, 392 PIM
547 GP, 33 G, 113 A, 146 P, +4, 266 PIM

Judging by the PIMs, first one is Chia?

Anyone else getting gutless vibes from this team? I know it was 25 years ago and the game has changed, but that 97 team had Shanahan, Lapointe, McCarty, Kocur, Maltby, Konstantinov, Rouse. I’d kill to have just two guys on this team that could play with some sandpaper and not be pylons out there.

Some of that stuff doesn't happen if Schenn is out there instead of Lindstrom. Chairot should of had a go at Tkachuk in the third.

It's competitive hockey. The insinuation here that it's fine they just fold like scared little boys is peculiar. They should show they are still there, still present in the competition. Some effort as a bare minimum, rise up to the physical challenge, run a guy if you have a chance. Turn the dial up in that situation because you're way behind, competitively, and your only chance to catch up is to put forth some effort, of some kind.

Yes, they could come out like gangbusters tomorrow night, but it's going to be more difficult to do after that 3rd. Ottawa is riding high after witnessing that sad display.
