As you can see, the reference to Stevens is about him being attentive and focused all the time. How's that over the top?

It's over the top because some people have an axe they want to grind before they read and decipher somethig.

"Omgz Scott Stevens in same sentence as boroveeki?!?!?. Stupid coach thinks we have next punishing Norris dman?!?!??!"

I realize I'm
Making you out to be an idiot, which you probably aren't. When taking quotes from these people, atleast take into account your bias or a loss in translation can blur the message.

The comparisson to Stevens was never about his on ice play, even if they are both physical defensive D (well Stevens was later in his career), it was about him bringing a high level of focus, both on and off the ice. KK was simply trying to say that Boro is always dialed into what's going on, and never daydreaming. If I said that Greening reminds me of Wayne Gretzky because they both love egg salad sandwiches as a pre-game meal, it's not over the top because it's not comparing them as players, but one specific trait about them that they share. So the point at which the quote was made isn't relevant as the particular trait in question doesn't really change in value based on the current style of gameplay.

Does Gretzky actually like egg salad sandwiches?

That missed call I just had must have been about a PTO.

Fair enough. My memory came up short, as I didn't recall that it was related to Boro's attentive / focused qualities... also could be that what I heard was someone on TEAM1200 paraphrasing KK's quote and it got lost in translation.

Silly goose.

I have no axe to grind and I am quite certain I've never used a sentence with that many exclamation points.

My point is anyone that took kleinendorsts comments as a direct player comparison allowed something to get in the way of intelligent thought.

So in conclusion our asst gm says we have one of the best dmen outside the NHL.

Any other bad news?

Well, the bad news is that over the past 24 hrs I've had to come to terms with the realization that Boro isn't the next Scott Stevens. That's been pretty rough. What's next - somebody going to tell me that Andre Petersson won't be Spezza's right wing for the next 10 years?

I agree with your position on this one, but I do recall the Sens org -- not sure who -- comparing Boro to Scott Stevens. I think it was just before his first AHL season started. IMO, that was real over the top....

There is a big problem with comparisons. You only get compared to well known and therefore very talented players.

I can see the comparison. Boroweicki plays hard, he makes players pay a price. He is also an incredibly hard worker.

Would you like to compare him to Stan Neckar, or Lance Pitlick perhaps?

....

I hate player comparisons in general, but the ones I hate most are the "poor man's" comparisons ... the ones where somebody claims Player A has a similar playing style to the superstar Player B, but just "not as good". Therefore "Player A is a poor man's Player B".

In particular, the comparer never quantifies to what extent Player A is "not as good" which makes the comparison pretty hollow.

Using that approach, I can legitimately call myself a poor man's Joe Sakic.

A really, really poor man.

Okay, maybe it's a destitute man's Joe Sakic.

Willie Mitchell or Scott Hannon? There is a middle ground, doesn't need to be one extreme or the other.

I'm a poor man's Hal Gill.

Hoping he can make WJC. Have Lazar, Paul, and Harpur all representing the Senator organization

It doesn't look like Harpur or Paul will play for the WJC. Most analysts don't even mention them in their speculative reports right now. Anything can happen with selections.. But right now the word is they're on the outside looking in.

Really? damn, Harpur for sure but i though Paul had a good chance. Hopefully with his consistent play he makes it

The media makes guesses much like fans do until everyone shows up at evaluations and media types start getting a scoop from HC.

Mark stone went from relative unknown to priority player between the last day before camp and the first day of camp in his year.
