Yeah, this was brought up how politics play a role in the picks. From my understanding it's a no-no to play in the OHL.

I think this is speculation and nowhere close to fact. There have been several players who have played in the OHL/WHL/QMJHL that have featured for the Swedes in the U20s over the last few years. Lindberg's case more than likely has to do with the fact that he hasn't featured for the Swedish national team at a major tournament since the U17s. Usually these programs, including Hockey Canada, go with familiarity over one season wonders.

It sucks but I can see where the national program might see the risk in taking him with his recent spike in production.

Did anyone consider that our fourth round pick isn't good enough to play for the swedes?

Did you ever consider that more than first and second rounders feature for the Swedes at these tournaments? In fact most of this team was either drafted after the 3rd round or undrafted all together.

His point production gave reason for optimism, but his draft position had nothing to do with why he wasn't chosen.

never said it was... I suggested his abilities were the reason he wasn't chosen.. he also doesn't seem to be a prototypical swede, the kind of players they like to build their team with.

Nobody was arguing Lindberg should be on the team or that its not fair he was left off, it was just a conversation.

Nothing to see here, hype police.

DaCosta had 2 goals today. Leads best team in KHL in goals despite missing 1 month with injury.

Except the Russian Ruble is worth about as much as a few sheets of toilet paper right now and will be for quite awhile. Any NHL contract offer will blow the KHL contracts out of the water.

Looked into it recently, turns out non-Russian players are paid in Rubles, but contracts are in USD or Euros. Team is required to convert the value of the USD/Euro into rubles to pay, but most of the "foreign" players in the league haven't lost money. They just get more rubles than they did before.

Also: should we re-name this thread the All Purpose Da Costa thread?

Even if he were still with us, the guy is 25 frigging years old. He'll be 26 when he's able to sign a new contract - he's done developing. This is a prospects thread... he's well past the point of being relevant here.

I'm just happy people aren't talking about David Legwand in here anymore. It's a step in the right direction

But if the players are paid on a bi weekly bases and the ruble continues to drop rapidly, all the money they've been paid early is now worth less, right? Unless they convert it immediately back to USD

I imagine that's what they do.

I have colleagues and friends in Indonesia here, and they get their pay in Rupiah, directly deposited into their USD accounts, and the bank automatically converts it from Rp into USD at the time of payment. It takes literally a fraction of a second to do.

Could be a late bloomer. Guy always was average at the WC till recently when he dominated. :ike you said though... hes probably not going to be a factor with this team unless he really wants to play in the NHL

DaCosta, Pageau, Lazar - all about the same height. We need some bigger Centres. Zibanejad fits if he can work it out. Paul is still growing. Turris is not that big.

I doubt a depth of

Zibanejad
Lazar
Turris
DaCosta
Pageau
Paul

would work. Good skill but size is missing.

Pageau is much smaller then Lazar and Turris and a little bit smaller then da costa

I think with Lazar he is a thicker player it seems then say Turris and DaCosta who seem thin. Pageau is pretty strong for his size too

You don't need big centers, you need very good centers. Very good centers often come big.

Bergeron and Krejci aren't big, they won a cup with big wingers.
