Like living back in the days of King and Queens hoarding everything.

there has been hierarchies for as long as humans existed not everyone is born equal sadly. Just gotta remember to be grateful we are able to post and complain on a hockey forum when other people have far greater challenges.

Does the Remington group have the pockets to win this with all these other groups having billionaires backing them? I just want Ryan Reynolds lol

I wonder if some of these groups are brought on by the nhl for the sole purpose to drive the price higher…maybe they’re shooting for the $1B price tag

I mean this season has been a success despite the awful start.

I'm totally fine with giving Dorion and Smith a chance to impress the new owners.
I'm not but I don't think we're gonna have much of a choice. Find this really unfortunate.

Dorion yes. but DJ has consistent inconsistencies. Time to let someone else try to get the best out of the players.
Dorion is the bigger problem it's not even close. He picked the coach he built the roster that has absolutely no prospect depth after missing the playoffs for 6 straight seasons. You're kidding yourself if you think DJ is the bigger issue. This is the first year he has anything remotely close to a competitive roster. Those aren't his decisions. This team needs new leadership from the top that can identify goaltending and pro talent. The team has no depth.

Nice to see a voice of reason.

No more trading high picks until we have a team ready to win a Cup. I’ll give him a pass on giving up picks for Chychrun since I’m was the most glaring hole.

Once the winning bidder is announced and the bid is binding I would expect that the new owner will be directing organizational decisions since the affected dollars will kick in post transfer of ownership.

“I know some of the media hasn’t done their homework”

I mean really?! His columns might as well be written in crayon. Half the posters on this board are 1. Better writers 2. More informative 3. More interesting.
Many years ago, in the first three or four years of the senators existence, I participated in a Sens forum online, and one day in Bruce’s column, he literally cut and pasted one of the posters, intelligent comments from a day or two earlier.

Process is vibrant, robust, impactful, fluid, totally organic, empowered, outside the box, has lots of moving parts, and solution driven.

It’s a jargon driven sale

as an aside, what a f***ed up amount of wealth for a person to be able to accumulate off the backs of so many.

yeah, Capitalism is a shite system, but it sure beats the crap of whatever system is in second place.

Some people seem to begrudge someone else getting a bigger piece of the pie, than they, or the most of us get…. Misunderstanding the fact that the “Pie” is not a fixed, finite size, but when someone accumulates wealth they’re actually growing the size of the “Pie” and not taking away from anyone else’s slice of “Pie”, increasing the total wealth in the system, and making it accessible for anybody else to hitch their Wagon in the process. Remember the tech boom in the 80s? It created many wealthy people in the process, not all became Bill Gates or Steve Jobs, but a lot of other people Road the wave to wealth in an industry that was created before our eyes.

we all start from the same starting line, how far we go in the race is up to each and everyone of us.

If the sale stretches out to Aug, I suspect DJ is back, GM has a bit more flexibility so I could see us making a change there.

Dorion has pushed a lot of chips onto the table to get the roster to where it is,

2 firsts
3 seconds
2 3rds
Gustavsson

To get Chychrun, DeBrincat, and effectively swap Murray with Talbot

The upside though is a top 6 and top 4 that can compete with top teams,
We've got guys like Pinto, Greig, Joseph, filling out the 3rd line, I personally like Kastelic on the 4th. Brannstrom, hopefully Kleven, maybe JBD, and Thomson to fill out the bottom pair.

Our depth needs should be cheap, No clue how the Formenton situation plays out, but if he becomes available it will really make an impact. I think Ostapchuk will be a great bottom 6 guy, albeit a few years away,

The big picture though is our top pieces are or should be locked up soon and are young enough to be here through any contending window with the possible exception of Giroux depending on how he ages.

Dorion has a choice to make wrt DeBrincat and I think both paths have their advantages and disadvantages, but aside from that the team is pretty much what it will be already,

So how much damage or good he can do at this stage is pretty subjective depending on you4 thoughts on DeBrincat imo

Rocco and Astolopolous combine for a 5B net worth. Not bad at all. I take back what I said about Rocco if Astolopolous is an equal partner to him in owning this.
Do they combine for 5 billion net worth, ?

thought I read they run an investment company with 5 billion in investments. So not their 5 billion. Course read article yesterday., so maybe forgetting something.

Their friendship is nothing to shake a stick at.
Hockey stick? Or some other stick?

Either way, I wouldn't be too surprised to see them collaborate once the team is sold (IF Sundin is really in and his group wins the bidding process)

Bettman literally said it would be a matter of weeks like a week ago.
Early summer, according to his interview, until all is done and transferred. So, I am starting to think, unless these bidders already have some type of verbal agreement with some GMs/coaches that they would hire them if they purchase the team, we might be in for another year of DJ Smith/Dorion combo. I might be wrong, but it looks to me that could be the most likely option the longer this takes.

I actually think Dorion has more chance of staying for a while than DJ does. To be fair, this team doesn't look that bad, needs some tweaking but our core should be set and looks good. They might keep him for a few years, just because of what he did in the last year or so

The BoG must approve the sale and history says that they do whatever Gary wants so he kind of will decide who gets the team.
I think it's because Bettman knows what the owners want well in advance, not because he forces his decision or will on a bunch of passive owners with something they don't want. Owners want to see their investment protected when the time comes to sell their franchise. I don't think they'll look at Gary very favourably if he were to make/force (or try to force) a decision that is several hundred million below a price they could have gotten. And before someone goes there, that isn't the same as saying the highest bid wins either. I doubt if Gary would last very long if that happened. The process of decision making is laid out in the NHL constitution for those that want to investigate.

Lol, love how you’re tripling down on your misunderstanding of my statement…

And yet, here we are watching the league vet and pick the next owner in front of your eyes.

You still think the Melnyks are picking the next owner, which I guess is quaint, in a wrong sort of way… ;)
You are great at inventing straw man arguments that nobody said. Kudos to you. There is a process that has been laid out in posts here that detailed the steps involved in the process. And recent quotes from Bettman said the same thing. That's (the process) what I said, not the crap you are making up (i.e., your last sentence).
