I was just thinking exactly this - the delay on the completion of the sale until July makes it much more likely that the Coach and GM get another year. By the time July rolls around the hiring cycle is done for another year, and they would be picking through the remainder bin for coach or GM candidates. Amongst Assistant GMs and Assistant Coaches around the league, for instance, many have a designated window in their contracts to talk to teams about promotions, but that window typically only lasts for a few weeks in May/June.
Makes you wonder if the Hockey Part is part of the selection of the new owners... or that is all the business / money part. It certainly seems it could be status quo that way for another year.. We fans may have more sense of urgency than the new owners stepping in and unless they have the Hockey Ops and people in mind they very well could take their time in making changes.

I mean you have to assume that short term hockey, and urgent fans, are at the very bottom of the list for what may end up being near a 2 billion dollar team purchase and arena build.

Getting the right real estate plan, land parcel, and arena design etc, are obviously the priority, not to mention beating out the other bids.

I bet the groups have looked at the team and feel that it’s coming along nicely and are completely focused on the acquisition. Outside of the twitterverse, and in here, you don’t really see or hear about any urgency to make sweeping changes on our team.

I suspect the GM and coach will both play out their contracts to start the season next year and things will open up when they both face their team options. PD will have to make a decision on DJ next season, and the new ownership will have to make a decision on PD next off season.

I think some folks have forgotten that we’re just shooting the shit in here at the end of the day and that we’re just fans who don’t know shit about the vast majority of what’s going on beyond tidbits we’re fed.

Arguing and debating sports can be fun for sure, but it’s becoming more and more apparent that some folks actually believe what they are saying, think that they do in fact know more, are better at, and are indeed experts on everything. The amount of hills littered with dead posters is grizzly :)

What a time to be alive!

I am not an expert at anything, aside from hockey coaching, managing an NHL team, PR, journalism, selling and buying professional sports teams, sports psychology and reffing. And sex, I am also expert in that. You all believe me, right?

Idk about anyone else, but all this chatter about other suitable locations besides lebreton is worrisome. Downtown or bust. Hope it's just attempts to get the NCC to provide a larger parcel of land for the arena.

Mats Sundin wants to be a part owner of the Sens

Joke in there about Sundin already owning the Sens but I can’t think about that. Give me Alfie and Ryan Reynolds, not Neko Sparks and Mats Sundin

This ownership bid is literally like buying a pack of hockey Cards and seeing who’s going to be in charge now

It's way better than watching Gambrell play though.

If Gambrell is always in perfect defensive position that makes sense to me because he’s never in any offensive position. Gambrell uses the same shooting lanes the Assistant coaches do in warm up

I believe he was the bidding groups hockey advisor, not formally part of the bid, but maybe I just misunderstood what being a hockey advisor to a bid entails or what priviledges come with it

It means he wants to win a Cup so he’s finally joining a team he can do it with

Algonquin First Nations is one of the bidders and apparently have a land claim on Lebreton Flats.

would be nice for them to be stakeholder in the team - chance for the NHL to do something very special with the ownership group so that probably won’t happen

They got the donuts? Excellent....

The optics for this look terrible to me. There are First Nations communities that don't have access to safe drinking water but some First Nations communities can own a part of an NHL franchise?

Assen na yo!

Good way to raise the profile and political weight of the Alqonquin nation by buying an NHL team. Nothing more high profile then pro hockey in this country

DJ Smith's contract runs until the end of the 2023-24 season after which the Senators have an option to extend it to include 2024-25 or sign a longer term contract. I can see DJ staying for next season but being terminated if the team falters in the first 20 games.

Dorion's contract has 2 more seasons left, including 2024-25, after which the team has an option to extend it for one year or sign a longer term contract. There have been too many issues with Dorion, so I want a change asap.

I think Dorion has bought himself some time with his performance since the shackles have been removed. It's been night and day. Never thought I'd say that about him. He still needs some help and support though.

That said, unless they make the playoffs and go on a run, the whole coaching staff needs to go by next season, especially with new ownership in place. There's easily 4-5 losses (and likely many more) this season that could have been prevented with half decent coaching, that puts the Sens in the playoffs now. No way the new owners want to hitch their wagon to this bargain basement coaching staff after spending nearly $1B on this team.
