I see what you're saying. Old curmudgeon and all that. I listen to music from the 60's all the way through to today from pretty much every genre out there other than country. 2+TB's of music curated on my Plex server.

It's all personal taste, so it was a bit of a joke, and like plenty of music other people would consider bad, but I think his music is absolute bullocks. Fit for the pit and not worth the tape at the archives.

Yeah I was being a bit tongue in cheek for sure. I'm no Bieber fan (although I can f*** with that peaches down in Georgia song not gonna lie).

I'm similar to you in that I listen to everything except country music, more or less. My fiance works in electronic so I've gotten much more into that recently.

Maybe but we are running into an interesting issue.

New music just doesn't hold people's attention. Be it because of cultural stratification through the internet or converging production and songwriting methods, it's a significant topic to discuss.

Interesting. I mean it feels like Gen Z has the lowest attention span in human history so it doesn't surprise me that new music lacks staying power.

I like many different types of music including some of the big band music: Dorsey, Ellington, Basie, Shaw, Miller, James.
Interesting. Now you're really going back in time! I don't know that I have anything pre-60's in my collection. Probably due to my parents being born in the 50's and no living grandparents to be influenced by most of my life, so I've never really even heard much of anything from that era.

One thing about the old music can be the quality available. It really struck me how much I enjoyed the music in the new Elvis movie, but anytime I tried to get in to Elvis in the past, it sounded awful from a quality standpoint.
Was just trying to be more analytical in what I was saying. Bruce and Bob's music has already stood the test of time and will continue to. Biebs is very disposable pop trash. I guess maybe people will remember "Baby" as a cultural curiosity of the teen idol resurgence but that's it.

Lol ya I sort of got that, but replied as I did anyway, couldn't resist. I guess I just saw Bieber's stuff as the type of music that wouldn't get much attention down the line. The young kids grow out of it after a phase and what are you left with, but what do I know, maybe it will be different.. And you other point is both interesting and not surprising. Being a 90's/2000's hip hop fan, I can't help but notice how much of the new stuff sounds the same. I can give a spin of someone like Travis Scott and I was barely able to differentiate one song from the next over a full album.

Haha I figured. Can't imagine too many adults are rocking it, but all good if they are.

Electronic music is something I've really gotten into the last couple years. It can be like a drug like high in a way that no other genre of music is.

Here is a link to some jazz standards by Duke Ellington. I think most are in mono.

For better quality you can get some big band music from the BBC Orchestra which has better recordings due to the use of modern recording equipment.

As far as I'm concerned, today's music is way better than the mostly regurgitated, safe and boring popular music from the 60's up to the 90's.

I'm so sick and tired of hearing the same goddamn songs every where all the time. If I have to hear The Weight or The Night they Drove Old Dixie Down or The Counting Crows, I will kill someone.

North America has a real problem with moving on from shit music that got a lot of air play. Old Music is mostly inoffensive and unimaginative which is why it unfortunately has seemingly infinite lasting power.

The 80's comeback has finally ended you mean. It lasted from like 2005 to 2017. The kids have been dressing like it was the 90's for a while now.
I think today’s music is awful. And I don’t blame today or the era when a lot of sounds, arrangement, technology, etc…was constantly evolving back in the 60s and on. It is hard to come up with something fresh, and when they do it truly should be celebrated.

But they're playing in the newest rink in the league! :)

Their problem has never been needing a new rink until now. They've had the rink in Glendale since before Crosby was drafted. Now the location sucks for the market, it's the equivalent of the Senators playing in Orleans, but it is kind of hard to beg for government money when you have a perfectly good rink that's just in the wrong location.

Assen na yo!

OR…. It’s the equivalent of the Senators playing in Kanata, which is about 9 kms further from Downtown than the eastern end of Orleans.

When you say today's music is awful, I'm guessing you mean today's mainstream music. There are some great singers and bands out there who are fantastic. In all genres.

Yes, mainstream music. The artists and talent are always super impressive.

Music today is complete trash for the most part.

15+ groups have filed applications. Tough look for the “no interest”, “only interest in moving the team”, and “bad market” crowds.

And we have an update on timelines
"There are 15 or more people or groups of people who have filed applications, the data room was open and my guess is at some point in the next few weeks or so there will be a preliminary cut based on preliminary bids," Bettman said.

Do Senators turn a profit?
Define profit. ;-) That's tough to say for sure. This is why access to that data room was important for the buyers - trying to untangle all the different businesses under Senators Sports and Entertainment would be an interesting exercise. For example, the hockey operations themselves may technically lose money, but the revenue from concerts and other bookings at the arena help them make money, and those wouldn't exist without the hockey team...

I would guess that this is a money losing org at the moment but probably not as much as our old friend Sweatred tried to present as fact. New building + playoffs would likely be profitable.

What I've always wondered is why no other entities ever tried building an event center somewhere more central in Ottawa. Feels like concerts, shows, attractions, etc. would be better suited to a central location to maximize revenue. But I guess there's just not enough juice in the lemon to make the squeeze worthwhile?
