The cynical side of me wants to believe that Bettman would be bold enough to package the No. 1 overall with the team sale.

But it's just not reality. As fun as it is to speculate, the NHL just doesn't rig its draft. Sorry everyone.

Just read the Garrioch article from today with comments from Bettman. I don't like that Bettman didn't squash the option of the Senators having neutral site games in Quebec as well. Says it would depend who owns the team.

Creating fear for the city of lost revenues.

I am sure a sens game generates at least a million bucks for the city when it comes to taxing parking, tickets, concessions, and player salaries

Bieber just sold his catalogue to a Blackstone portco for a cool $200mm.

Loading up that dry powder.
For real? What an abject moron.

You believe everything they tell you, dont you?
I bet you floss because they tell you to.
I definitely believe it would be best if I did floss.

I'm 39 and single though, there is nothing to look forward to anymore so why go through the trouble? It is so much extra work.

He did indeed.

I think musicians do it pretty often. $200mm is a shit ton of money for someone like Bieber. Dude isn’t a billionaire or anything.

It definitely is a boatload but to lose control of your work? He must be hurting for cash.

I am not at all a fan of Taylor Swift but the story of how she regained control of her music is pretty awesome.

Why is that odd.

Do you really think the League is happy that McDavid is wasting away in Edmonton?

I think they're happy with the revenues they're pulling in from Rogers Place.

There's been two drafts in the past 20 years that's had a likely all time great in it. Both times the draft lottery was won by the franchise most in need of help getting a new rink built. The odds of that happening were about 0.7%.

Assen na yo!

I think it was the right time for Biebs.

Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen just sold their catalogues for massive amounts. Frankly, I don't think Bieber's music will stand the test of time. I just can't see a reason for people to ever go back to it. He wasn't really a game changer in his field, and I don't think the quality will bring in new people to explore it. Modern pop has a real problem with "sameness" to it and I think his music qualifies. His popularity will only go down from this point. So selling high was probably the right call.

Plus he's had some medical issues so maybe he just wants to be done with all of it.

How does “The City” make any revenue, from parking, tickets, concessions or player salaries?

Is there some kinda new Municipal Tax that no one has ever heard of?

Ernst & Young and their 46 billion dollar 2022 revenue certainly aren't going to risk a scandal for the Sens to get a 1st overall

While I generally agree with this there’s a reason Arthur Andersen is no longer a big dog. It happens.

Not to mention, the more artists selling their catalogs for huge money, the less money left for those late to show up at the table. There's only so many advertisers and iconic songs and ways to use said songs to sell people stuff (or to fluff up a movie soundtrack).

If I was in his shoes, I'd cash out. $200 mil is enough to live the high life and do whatever quite easily for the next 60 years and have enough to set up the kids and grandkids incredibly well.

Plus that's just his music catalogue. The real source of revenue for artists these days is in touring and merch.

When did Arizona win the lottery?

Hard to imagine a scenario where the NHL gets E&Y to risk it though.

Yeah it's probably not a big enough fee. I'm guessing EY does it more for the notoriety than the cash.

Just saying, these sterling accounting firms and rating agencies are beyond reproach until they aren't.

This is also very much correct.

Spotify and other streaming services have really gutted the ability of musicians to make big money through recording.

They now need endorsements, merchandising and especially touring to be uber wealthy. Bieber is probably making 7 figures a live show.
