" the four groups that submitted final, binding bids at the May 15 deadline have been whittled down some, all remain in the mix for the club"

Do these reporters know how ridiculous they sound? They've all said exactly this ad nauseum. What does "whittled down" mean, then?
There were reports of up to 7 groups that were interested but only 4 made binding bids. Thats what he means whittled down

He's correcting previous reports (or "indications") that the the bids had been whittled down from 4. This is the full quote:

"While there are indications that the four groups that submitted final, binding bids at the May 15 deadline have been whittled down some, all remain in the mix for the club expected to sell for about $1 billion, two sources with knowledge of the process told Front Office Sports.

To indicate that, I would have said “while there were indications.”

So if they don’t have a decision made and paperwork sorted out by next Wednesday’s BoG meeting, what happens? Can they do a vote on the fly or do we have to wait months until the next meeting to get approval?

I hope they can do a special meeting if it doesn’t make the cut for June 7th. You’d think nowadays with zoom meetings it should be easily doable.

A special meeting via conference call could be held. Easy peasey!

RR contacting one of the bidders would be pretty seismic lol…ya ya wishful thinking
I think that RR might get involved IF the winning bidder thinks it would be a beneficial thing to do and offers RR a lucrative deal to join in the bid.

Oh the BOG meeting is early this year. Usually week of the draft.
Paperwork likely won’t be completed for another month, vote will happen before paperwork is close to done.

Interesting. Mendes on TSN1200 right now says one of his sources who’s “never” wrong gave a tip today that would be “seismic” news. He couldn’t get confirmation on it though so he didn’t say what it is. Makes you wonder

He goes on to say he looked into it and doesn't think it's true.

Ian Mendes joins Sparks bid

Never thought this would happen quickly. Billion dollar deal.

Also, some of the most pertinent details are still TBD. How much land is available and where is it?

It seems like the smaller plot available from the NCC only large enough to build an arena is the only certainty other than maybe the current CTC site. Who would the winning bidder be dealing with for the land - NCC or the City? It depends on the site in question and of interest to the bidder.

If bids contained real estate focused partners, that would make it a much harder process. I think that's might have happened with the Remington bid. Reynolds was primarily interested in the team, while his other partners (Remington) were interested in the real estate. GSP, Melnyk's and the NHL don't own the land, yet they are leading or involved in the sale process. They can't make commitments on behalf of the NCC or City for the land.

It doesn't seem surprising that it's taking this long given these circumstances. Anyhow these are just a few thoughts (or speculation if that's the preferred word).

On the surface, it was a bad trade, but it worked out because SJ became a lottery team. Not often that one of these big trades worked out in our favor.
See: Spezza, Stone, Zibby, Duchene, etc
Your opinion.

The EK65 trade, or pretty much every trade, is a calculated gamble to a certain extent. Ottawa was going full rebuild, and wanted draft picks, and or prospects…. Which they received in the EK65 trade.

It was NOT a bad trade, no matter how anyone tries to spin it, to fit their anti PD narrative.

Mess, Mess, Mess, Mess,
The theories make sense. Most likely Steve A. is running away with the price and viability to pay but he’s not the NHL’s preferred guy.

Also, there could be disagreements between the Melnyks, his stooges, the bank, and the NHL. There are way too many parties to satisfy in this process.
