Seems like everything is happening behind closed doors and journalists have no info and are just guessing. Anything is possible is the basic summary of this interview.

It's the summer, and reporters need something to report. They can't very well say I've heard nothing and there's nada to report.

I don't trust anything coming out of the Toronto media either after the Dubas firing. I doubt if any of these journalists (aka insiders) have any real sources and are just speculating. This stuff will go on behind closed doors as well and I'd think organizations are loathe to say anything and air their dirty laundry.

As a fan of Weeknd's music I would be happy if the Kimels win out.
Kimels could be a good bidder but I can't see how the music thing has anything to do with majority ownership of a hockey team.

Its like the tail is wagging the dog with a lot of this now.

Note - Edited for clarification & to avoid misinterpretation.

The music thing is money.
If you are trying to say the Weekend are putting their money into the bid and purchase of the team, then yes OK. How much, what percentage of ownership, are they the majority owner, these are open questions that none of know of us know. From what I managed to dig up on the inter web, they have $300 million. I'll guess they wont be the major investor given this. "The music thing is money" isn't a particularly explicit statement, so I had to guess what you meant.

Anyone know what the maximum leverage allowed is? Bruce mentions a debt restriction.
Makes sense there would be one but no idea what it is.
But they were also required to show where the equity is coming from, keeping in mind the NHL has rules in place that only allow a certain percentage of debt against the value of the franchise.
I also wonder if this remains true

I would say, yes, the Weeknd is putting money into the purchase of the team. Were you not aware of that when you said "I can't see how the music thing has anything to do with hockey."

Yes, I was aware of this. I can read and follow this just like anyone else. If you actually read the 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th sentences of post #3754 it should be pretty clear what I meant.

He has 300 million.

Impressive that the Sparks group managed to persuade the Dragons Den to invest. Must have been quite a reveal in that data room. When the team was worth $100mil we had to to scour under rocks to find a buyer. Now we're the belle of the ball fighting off suitors. Sounds like a pretty intense auction still going on. Everyone motivated to win. I guess that's a good thing.

I am so happy Reynolds is officially out.

As a Sens fan growing up, it was never cool, trendy or fashionable to be a fan of ours - it was the opposite.

You were ridiculed, teased and outright mocked for cheering for the 2nd team in Ontario, especially out west.

To have that dynamic flipped would just feel so wrong.

Personally, I love the mission statement from the Sparks group and I hope they win based on that merit. If not them then anyone who keeps Dorion and DJ for one more season.

That's quite the tightrope you've woven there.

If it was the ‘Snoop Dogg’ led group I feel like we would become fashionable and media hyped - to an extent.

But Snoop is getting old and the Neko Sparks thing has kind of become farcical. It’s like a 70’s sitcom intro where the names just keep getting listed. And listed… Oh finally there’s Maude!

But when it comes down to it, as a fan I want what best for the team and who owns it doesn’t really matter so much as they have money and don’t want to move the team. Who manages day to day operations does have an impact on the franchise and I think PD is in the best position to see that through to at least Christmas.

to summarize. Reynolds is to cool. Sparks would be good because of the mission statement - which is cool -, although anyone would do as long as they don't fire the coach and GM; The again, back to sparks, Snoop is a bit old and Sparks is just turning it into a circus.

whoever it is, just keep PD as the GM - at least until Christmas.

Thanks, I needed this.

by the way, I think that leaves you with Steve Apostolopolous because I think that's the only one left who doesn't seem to have a preference for who they want to bring in as GM/coach.

No, thank you. I needed this. One of my New Year’s resolution’s was to try to post more on the internet and occasionally have people criticize or mock me. I need to toughen up. Was trying to make a joke comparing how ‘cool’ Reynolds has been perceived vs how overplayed Snoop’s group has been but I guess it didn’t land.

Happy we’re not trendy. Hope it’s the Sparks bid of the 4 wins (because I believe that bid grows hockey the most) and regardless of the winner I hope Dorion and DJ are kept.

Yeesh. I’ve overthought this for like an hour now but I feel like that’s what I get for not over thinking my original posts.

Also a dude like the weekend could easily fill the arena with 10 dates a year or friends of his who didn’t have Ottawa on the scheudle but the Weekend told them he has a stadium they could play in (no hot water and far away parking is $20) and a very good chance they could meet Jesse Winchester

10. The fact there’s a $1B bid for the Senators and we, as of Tuesday night, don’t know who will get first crack at closing the deal indicates the Melnyk family, the bank and the NHL have questions that need answering. Ownership structure, financing, debt, etc. We’re getting there. A couple people who know Steve Apostolopoulos say it is absolutely his style to make a “bully bid,” so they wouldn’t be shocked at all if he’s the high bidder. We’ll see. If he wins, Justin Bourne might need a new co-host.

It landed. I thought it was funny, the sarcasm was tight, you got some folks to bite :)
