The idea that there is a confirmed 1B bid kinda makes the Remington group look weak. Their justification for exclusivity was that they were competing against themselves. Clearly that is not the case. They simply got cold feet

Can't help but think this is the Sparks group.

The other possibility is the Andlauer bid. Have to figure a lot of his capital is tied up in his 20% stake in the Habs, and there could be some concerns about whether he's secured a buyer/timeframe for that sale.

They sound smart to me. Why would you be serious about bidding that kind of money when there is no guarantee that you can even develop downtown?

This is the second deal for an NHL club they've pulled out of at the last second. Odds are they were never serious, unless they were able to secure an insanely sweet set of circumstances.

Doubt they'll ever get a third crack at it.

I'm not sure that the answer to hockey's problematic culture of misogyny and sexual misconduct is awarding a franchise to an individual who's built an entire career on the objectification of women, has (on the record) bragged about "pimping out" women to other celebrities and athletes, and has himself been accused of sexual assault on multiple occasions. And it's not like he's had a "come to Jesus" moment - all of this continues to be part of his brand.

Heck, if an NHL player had an Instagram account that mirrored Snoop Dogg's, they'd be considered Exhibit A of rotten hockey culture. If I was an NHL organization, the last place I'd want my players to be is a party at Snoop's house.

The Sparks group seems to have lofty aspirations. They plan to elevate women, make the game accessible to underserved inner-city communities, and economically empower First Nation's people throughout Canada. All worthy causes! But I wonder, if these are the group's true motivations, and they have access to upwards of $1B of capital... why would they choose owning the Ottawa Senators as their vehicle for change? There are so many organizations that could put that money to much, much more productive use.

It seems to me that their motivations are the same as all the other bidders - to further enrich themselves. Pro sports franchises have proven to be a great way to build a billionaire's net worth! Add in the opportunity to milk taxpayers for a new arena and they'll be cooking.

This one group just seems to be using vague social justice promises to curry positive press. At least the other groups seem to be a lot more honest about their motivations (money and real estate).

I share your general skepticism about the Sparks's group's posturing about diversity. Just strange to hear the message that the NHL will prefer bids that align with their culture when one of the bids features a call-out to its reputation of being a boys' club.

I don't buy that the NHL has any "desire to change the culture" within ownership ranks, either. If they did, the Wirtz family wouldn't currently be raking in millions from Connor Bedard jersey sales. But here we are.

The league's "pledges" ring just as hollow as Sparks'.

But that's just it. There's not expressing a desire to encourage a change of culture. Even though it was through Firestone, why would the league publicly state they're looking for a "cultural fit" when their culture is in such public disrepute.

.... Your point is? Drake is shyte and he's huge, same with Nickleback and the list goes on and on.

Big music is just marketing with make up. It has nothing to with quality, it is just volume.

Sometimes music is mainstream because it is actually good. It’s fun to hate on Drake but there is a reason people choose to listen to his music. The weeknd after hours album is one of the best pieces of music I have listened to in my life.
I listen to all sorts of shit from j-pop, alternative rock, to indie bands, rap and hip hop obviously takes it but there’s no bias in it for me the weeknd is truly a special musician.

The fact that no one here can confidently share what they listen to is telling

There is probably a good reason why Bettman wasn’t happy with him joining Remington.

Garrioch also notes in his most recent article that he wasn't reached out to over the weekend

This isn't "all sorts of music".

For me:
Rock/Pop - Beatles, Cream, Chicago, The Who, Oasis, Big Wreck and many others.
Classical - Bach, Beethoven, Rachmaninoff and more
Jazz - Chick Corea, Stephane Grappelli, many more
Progressive Rock (Classical/Rock) - Yes, Focus, Gentle Giant, King Crimson and others.
Fusion (Jazz/Rock) - Jean Luc Ponty, Return to Forever, Allan Holdsworth and many more.

I mostly listen to drone-y, instrumental music and jazz. I am a big time snob but I have no problem saying some pop artists are good, Taylor Swift is a good example of quality pop music.

The Weeknd is just for people who missed the 80's or pine for them.

I'm done on this topic. I don't qualify music by how popular it is but you do you.

You listen to Plastikman and it's pure garbage.

Goes to show some people try their best to be edgy and find obscure things to be a fan of lol.

Plastikman is ok, it is more background music than stuff I actively listen to. I'm not that old.

But I'm not that young that I care to name drop bands or artists I like though, I ain't trying to impress no one.

Rachmaninoff is shyte. Too late for the height of classical; too early for the hit parade.

Am I doing this right ;)
