How about actually going to the source of the issue instead of mindlessly looking for solutions in the bargin bin? This is just insanity, unless you like that sort of thing.

In my mind, Marner and Dubas needs to go. I don't mind Dubas as much as many of you, but he's really awful at negotiations. I feel like Marner and his contract is just a total liability at this point and he needs to be traded ASAP.
Dubas absolutely got bent over on that Marner deal, but he's signed so many absolute bargains besides that. I think he's shown growth in that regard personally.

That's the sad thing isn't it? It seems like Sandin has been the favorite child since the day he was drafted and Liljegren the black sheep since he was picked. Sandin has been given every chance to shine and be a regular on the team and even given a chance to be a PP quarterback while Lily has been largely ignored and not given even a fraction of the playing time and chances that Sandin has.

Who knows maybe Lily has just as much offensive skill as Sandin does, but we'll never know when he's gotten barely any PP time or even a chance to play consistently during his career as a Leaf. Just once I'd like to see him play a good long stretch of games with alot of ice time and see what we really have in him.
agreed, and let him make the mistakes that sandin, dermott, holl and even rielly on occasion are afforded without fear hes going to get demoted for the next calendar year because of it

Why do people think that Liljegren is the answer?

It's like saying Amadio is the answer or Brooks was the answer.

Liljegren who still hasn't played an NHL game this season is the answer?
hahaha, compared to Holl???? yes. Great pre-season, wonderful pairing with Muzzin, yes he is the answer.

Sure but if Dubas was so convinced Liljegren was an impact player in the making, you'd assume he'd have had Keefe play him regularly by this point.

The coach usually does have final say, but eventually the GM who's his boss can step in and say play this guy or you're toast.
I mean Liljegren was an impact player. Both Keefe and Dubas' performances have declined so they aren't exactly the most trustworthy people at this point. I think many people know Liljegren is passed the AHL level but the organization won't give him a chance. Thats a flaw of the team more then anything. Plus this organization has been a complete disaster in developing defenceman so hardly a surprise.

For all the outrage, I thought Sandin was maybe the only Dman that actually had a solid performance last night.

Engvall continued his jekyll and Hyde act, Ritchie was a ghost and the top 4 D (even Rielly) looked gassed halfway through the game.

On to the next one.

I know we are only 2 games in, but JT needs to be better. From a goal scoring perspective, the last 2 seasons have been a disappointment, after a stellar first season with us. I know he has improved his defensive game which is great, but when you are getting paid 11 million and you are the captain, you got to lead by example and be a constant threat which unfortunately he has not been.

Same goes for Marner. Often times last year, it felt like he was too reliant on finding Mathews every shift. He has had a few chances, but he's got to produce as well.

On a bright note, Nylander has been fantastic, especially using his body to knock guys of the puck. Hopefully we see him and Mathews reunited once AM returns.

What games were you watching? JT was great in both games. Worked hard and nearly created numerous goals.

Brodie Muzziin Holl and dermott are doing god knows what, but they certainly aren't defending.

Also apparently we only have a big two now and one of the big two is injured. 22 million dollar black hole. Ridiculous.

Also, i like rielly, I really do. But f***ing hit the god damn net or get that to willy who is wide open. Idiot.

I agree but suprised to hear you say this.

JT was meh in both. And when you're paid 11m you don't get paid to create chances, you get paid to put the damn puck in the net. He hasn't done that.

Where da f*ck was Mitch?????????????????????????????????????????? Let me tell you folks again so you understand -- he is not fast enough straight line to play a game like past 2 games .. he is a post type player in each end of ice who has incredible edges and creative skills but can't make anything happen on rush by himself EVER .. he has to stop at blue line and dipsy doodle and hope someone else can use their speed .. well guess what JT and Ritchie don't have any speed at all folks so guess what NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING and this will be what happens again IF Leafs make a wildcard series .. he needs a Matty or a Zach to play with otherwise almost useless

HOLL what da f*ck did you even dress for that game??????????????????????????????? .. missed 2 easy defensive man pick up assignments, throw a blow up pass to Kase, screened tender to cause 1 goal, -3 and was main cause of all 3 goals against .. Keefer send him to minors asap .. play Lily with Muzzy and team will be FAR FAR FAR better off

Hey I still like both guys but the last year or so I'm not happy at all.
Thats why I like when you comment. Fairly level headed stickty. I will say this and I've said it all offseason.... the first person to leave needs to be mitch (especially if he plays the way he is). That contract and his level of play just don't match. If dubas started to be a bit more ruthless when it came to his players it would hold him in good stead.

I hope we expected stats f***ed them last night.

We did not. We played awful, and the stats reflect it.

The superficial stats - shots - made the game seem closer than it actually was.

But the analytics gave the sens a heavy 55+% advantage overall.

Thanks for the kind words:) I have my favorites but I can be objective. Agreed on the Marner stuff. Dubas looks really smart on the Nylander contract but it's completely wiped out by the Marner contract.

This team's missing the preseason intensity.
Even our older & slower guys seemed to have more spunk in preseason.
Maybe the cure is the presence of younger hungry kids to push the established comfy rich guys on this team fcol!

The D looked pretty rough last night but on that play, it was a fire drill after Engvall made a perfect giveaway pass to a Sens player while under 0 pressure would have been the issue?

The pass was a bonehead move no doubt, however, I don't see a fire drill.

To me, a "fire drill" is when you get running around in your own end for an extended period of time chasing the puck.

Tierney gets the puck at the blueline with both Muzzin and Holl back in the D zone
He holds the puck for a few second to let his teammates catch up and puts a shot on goal
The rebound goes right to the attacking Sen, who makes a quick pass to Tierney who is uncovered in front of the net.

It took 8 seconds from the bad pass until the puck was in the net.

Muzzin-Holl have been brutal, on for all 4 goals against this year so far I believe and deserve some or most of the blame on all of them.

Last year Muzzin started off terribly as well but Holl carried the pair through the first 20 games before Muzzin got it together, at which point Holl's play started to fall off.

One note to all the doom and gloom though, this is an expected loss. A back-to-back to start the year with the opposition waiting on their home opener, we were always going to be in tough.

Unfortunately we have another schedule loss coming next weekend:
Friday/Saturday back-to-back with travel from Toronto to Pittsburgh, meanwhile the Pens are sitting at home with three practice days between their last game, Tuesday at home to Dallas and the Leafs coming to town on Saturday.

I just finished watching the game. Way too early to draw any conclusions, but I am starting realise more and more that it was much more fun to watch these games when I had hope for a good result than now when I expect them to have a good result.

Agreed. Its funny cus if dubie goes to another team, with the lessons he learned here I'd bet he'd build a winner. His negotiating leaves a lot to be desired still.

Also is it just me or is nick ritchie really shitty lol.

Yea, probably a bad analogy on my part but certainly an out of nowhere panic situation (which of course led to a goal in that lucky bounce first period for the Sens)

Agreed. Ritchie isn't great but some just wanted him because he's big.
