Oh really - Mitch values those opinions so much he'll modify his game to appease them?
No, clearly the whole team ignores everything thrown at them... Wouldn't you easily shrug off a summer of people screaming you and you alone are the cause of all of the Maple Leafs' woes?

A lot of overreaction here. I thought we played pretty decent for a back to back against a team that was playing rested in front of their home fans for first time in 2 years.

They had a lot of puck luck and bounces the first period and then we took over the game. Hockey is an unpredictable game and you cant control the bounces and the refs.

What we could control was our effort and creating chances. When was the last time we had 48 shots in a game and lost? Amazing performance by Forsberg.

WTF does any of that crap matter? The scoreboard is the only stat that matters.

I hate that hockey has become baseball with all these stupid effing stats.

If only the scoreboard matters then we should just trade Sandin for Erik Gustafsson.

Also, curious choice to pose the question 'who even cares about scoring chances??' in a sport about scoring goals.

I actually expected Leafs to lose this game for the reasons you mentioned. I think I'm just peeved that Marner has been invisible for 2 games now.

Some of the overreactions on here are too funny. Let's talk when it's Game 20 or so when every single hockey and team have settled in.

I have my moments no doubt but I had to laugh at a few of the over the top comments bound by typical negativity after losing.

We're 1-1-0 on the season. 2 f***ing games in on a b2b without the top goal scorer.

No excuses and all that but Jesus christ it's 2 games in.

Tampa won tonight in OT but in 2 games are also 1-1-0 and have let in 12 goals lol.

You'd swear the sun has imploded and a black hole has begun.

When you make the money he makes and are in the entertainment business, that's the price you pay. Hey Marner,,, you suck, Y'see that's how it goes.

They don't get points for coming close. The only chances that matter are the ones that are converted. You know, the ones that show up on the scoreboard. If a team has ten scoring chances but can't put the puck in the net, how do those scoring chances matter? The truth is that they don't. If a team has ten scoring chances but can't score and their opponent has one chance but converts, which is more important - the chances or the one that went in? The point of the game is to score more goals than your opponent, not to have more scoring chances than your opponent. We've all seen the games in which a team throws a hundred shots on net but is up against a hot goalie standing on his head and none of the chances go in. If they aren't going in what do those chances matter? Does the team get some sort of consolation prize for winning the shot count?

I remember reading after the Oilers/Jets series last year that the Oilers had better stats than the Jets (might have been one game, might have been the series, I don't remember). How'd that work out for them?

Besides my negativity towards Marner, I felt that the Leafs played well, especially given that it was a B2B. But as I said, I expected a loss and not upset over that.

Why does Marner need Matthews to produce? He's being paid superstar money, only to be playing invisible, exactly where he left off during the last playoffs.

Let’s see if they can find the right combination and it gels. The lack of depth is a valid concern

i pray lily gets the same shot as sandin. i know fans have their favorite players, but when practically this entire forum agrees lily was one of our best dman in the preseason that has to mean something, cuz its rare AF lol

That's the sad thing isn't it? It seems like Sandin has been the favorite child since the day he was drafted and Liljegren the black sheep since he was picked. Sandin has been given every chance to shine and be a regular on the team and even given a chance to be a PP quarterback while Lily has been largely ignored and not given even a fraction of the playing time and chances that Sandin has.

Who knows maybe Lily has just as much offensive skill as Sandin does, but we'll never know when he's gotten barely any PP time or even a chance to play consistently during his career as a Leaf. Just once I'd like to see him play a good long stretch of games with alot of ice time and see what we really have in him.

Looking forward to seeing Keefe’s adjustments he makes for the next game.

Did anyone see any in game adjustments made tonight? Anything??? Other than the goalie change, bcuz, you know…..

Let’s not use back to back as an excuse. It is the 2nd game of the season and not the 62nd game.
They had some tough bounces and also was started slow again.
Didn’t understand why there was no challenge on the kicked goal. Tierny clearly moved his foot.
Gotta give credits for Forsberg as he did made over 40 saves.
Don’t know what JT had been doing this pre season bc he was saying he is on a mission and understand he needed to do more….but it is the same old JT.
Marner needs to snap out of whatever he is in.
Kerfoot is disappointing.
Muzzin and Holl needs to be a lot better.
Willie is continuing his strong play since last playoffs and he needs to continue to do that.

When the leafs win back2back cups then they have the right to start slow. Until then they deserve all the shit they get.

Once again leafs didn't start on time
Mrazek was absolute garbage
Officiating was horrible, please f*** off with whatever these new rules are NHL
Marner and JT do not look like 11M players

Obviously missing Matthews is a huge hole. But I didn’t expect the depth to look so thin without him. A little concerning.

Marner looks ordinary without his sidekick. And as great as it is to see Tavares back, he seems completely off out there (which is not to be unexpected).

While I understand there are a ‘few’ over reactions, it’s important to remember for many leaf fans this isn’t game 2 of a new season, this is Season X of yet another potential failure and so it’s really hard to fault leaf fans for that natural negativity. To me it’s more the exact opposite that confuses me, to me that’s ‘toxic’ positivity when no matter what the result is, we keep claiming things are good and the advanced stats suggests we were just unlucky. It is not luck that some teams are perineal winners. It’s time for the team to perform and have results that show.

Not gonna overreact to this game. Circumstances favored the Sens tonight.

But I will say this. Kerfoot has looked completely invisible these first 2 games. Like i honestly couldn't even tell he was playing until the announcers said his name.

The dude's offensive numbers have dropped considerably and he doesn't even generate any chances. Not to mention he's small and soft as butter on the ice.

He has to be moved this season

McCann with another goal tonight but he's not what we need

We need more of Kerfoot skating around and Holl being a train wreck
If we played Kerfoot on our top pp and gave him 20 minutes a night he would pot some goals, not his role though and not what we need.

You realize that’s every third liner in the history of the nhl, right?

“Give him top line and number 1 pp minutes and his stats will be better”. That is NOT unique to just Kerfoot.

It's too early to give a crap.

2 games vs the same annoying CAD teams where the leafs should have gotten 4 points if everything went perfect

I need to see a good 30 games before I can decide if this team and its players are playing at a level that will be likely to lead to a deep playoff run

We came flat but dominated heavy stretches. You put 48 shots on net your usually going to score more than 2 goals with a lot of those being high quality looks

Take time to regroup, somebody slap muzzin on the back and Holl on the shoulder and tell them if they're gonna play bad get it out of the system early as we can't have them make these sort of mistakes deeper into the season vs playoff level teams

I don't like Mrazek but he has a longer leash. He got hurt, which sucks and wasn't that great but it's 1 game. Hopefully he isn't hurt to long and comes back putting up a .910+ as our backup
