We are not afraid of Russia like Canada is. We are only worried about the referees.

Respect is different than fear.

Don't confuse Canadian respect for Russian/Soviet hockey with fear. You need to learn more hockey history. Start with "Summit Series 1972". Canada and the Soviets played the greatest hockey series of all time. Our best-on-best record speaks for itself.

Canadians fear no one. Russians know that, we've battled many times before. Sometimes we win, sometimes they win. Look at the WJC history between Canada v Russia it is epic. Both sides have won huge games against each other.

There is a level of deep rivalry, but also respect. It's a hard rivalry to understand if you aren't Canadian or Russian.

My point was, don't underestimate Russia, especially with the Moscow crowd behind them. Finland hockey is on the rise, it's really just a friendly reminder about the tough game ahead.

Expecting a hard game for us. Russia will be the favorite but we still have a real chance.

Hoping for a 3-2 win for the good guys. Expecting a 4-1 loss for us.

Laine always wins in semifinals, always.

In all seriousness, its gonna be hell of a hockeygame, and im guessing RUS will be going all-in in the first 10-15 minutes trying to get the opening goal, but will be truly disappointed when Juuso Hietanen scores an absolute cannon from blueline on the PP.

Russia has the offensive material advantage thats for sure but Finland has crazy good 2-way game and a huge goaltender. Expecting Russia to dominate and Finland doing a few rush goals. Aside of Laine hatrick that is. :sarcasm:

It annoys the hell out of me that people are already expecting that the refs will suck.

I hope that if we lose we can take it like a man and not cry about the refs. Even if the refs makes bad calls in front of the home crowd.

I feel very nervous about the game. And as a Finn I want to say that I respect Russians just as much as I respect anyone. I don't respect any state though. Hoping for a good game!

I don't want our Boys to lose this one, because I can't standardin all of the "Finland lost" screams from the estonian/russian buddies in the construction site where I work :/

Bad calls, I can stand, but if It's as atrocious as 2014 I have all the rights to be a little mad

Yep, I certainly respect Russian hockey a lot. The Finnish Shipachyov hate especially has reached ridiculous levels.

About that refereeing in 2014, while I certainly remember that there were some bad refereeing episodes (like Malkin's hit to the head that wasn't called), was it that blatant? Or are people just telling that because of that fake video posted earlier?

I have never rooted for Russia before but I am considering it this time. Some Finns are being way too cocky and disrespectful. It will be nice to see them knocked down a peg.

Hoping for Laine to have a good game regardless though.

Are you sure you are in a position to speak for Finns as in "we"? The Finns I know do not share your thoughts on this.

I will not comment on the paid refs. Every country has its trash media drumming up national one sided nonsense. You would do well to take a step or ten back from it.
Not any patriotic Finn can respect the Russian national team after the 2014 finals episode.

They also left the arena before the Canadian anthem in 2015.

Watch the game again and don't comment anymore about it. The refereeing was really bad. Too many light penalties compared to your team. But I have gone past that.

I hope that the stereotype that Russians always cheat and are somehow untrustful would go away but with the doping and all of the unclear situations make me think otherwise sometimes.

On the game itself - Finland wins with a comfortable 2 goal gap because someone in the Russia roster starts soloing. Then the whole team solo's and its smooth sailing from there.

If you watched the full game one more time then I fully accept and respect your opinion. I'm just not fine with people using that fake video as an argument, while it is nothing but an insult to hockey common sense.

Good thing I'm not patriotic then. :sarcasm:

This is hockey, please everyone just try to leave politics to the background. It's not that hard to be civilized.

2014's reffing issues are greatly overstated as usual due to Mertaranta's extreme nationalism combined with his lack of understanding of the rules.

For example the Shipachyov hit on Jormakka that wasn't penalized that everyone loves discussing was IMO a clean hit(not charging, not aimed at the head, shoulder down, not jumping, not interference). Jormakka himself is a very tiny player, and what does he do upon crossing his blue line? Looks behind(when he can expect a hit, this is a very normal spot for hits), head down. Gaudreau for instance has talked multiple times about how the most important thing for a small player is to always keep your head up no matter what.

Apart from that, there were some questionable calls I guess but nothing major. Nothing worse than vs Denmark 2 days ago.

Literally the only reason I usually root people against Canada cause of few arrogant ******, so you're not alone with this mentality :)

I hear you. We have a lot of fans with that mentality as well. Winning and having good teams can do that to fans. Finns have a good team so the arrogance is to be expected.

The amount of confidence in victory and lack of humility by some (not all) Finnish posters is very unusual by Finnish standards.

If I have learned one thing over years of watching international hockey, it is never underestimate the Russians. Never, ever underestimate a Russian team playing for their country. It's surprising to me to see how bold some Finnish posters have been.

Finland is on the rise and I can see them eventually joining Canada and Russia as hockey superpowers. But they aren't there yet. I'm cheering for Russia this game. Hopefully Canada does their part and we have a Canada v Russia Gold medal game.

Canada and Russia have a score to settle with each other after what happened last year (no need to get into it, Russian fans overwhelmingly were upset at about what happened). With these games In Moscow, on the international stage you can't ask for anything better than Canada v Russia.

Take care of business Russia and see you for Gold :). There is no better international hockey than a Canada v Russia game with a Championship at stake.

ROSSIYA!!

Finland has already surpassed Russia and I don't know how could you argue otherwise.

Go away. That travesty had little do with the Russian team. It was pure politics, which doesn't belong in hockey, even though it has always played its part.

In fact, I'd say that any fan of hockey can not respect the Russian team - because it is a great team.

Funny.

"Politics is not part of hockey" but hockey is part of politics.

It seems that this thread is rabidly degenerating to sort of borderwar over irrelevancies, lost historical territory of Finland, Putin paying bribes to refs etc. not related to hockey from basis of most vulgar idiotisms of moron level patriotism. (by trolling)

I cannot recall any WHC or Olympic tournament where Team Finland would've considered Team Russia somehow piece of cake to handle with, and I think Russians neither have had serious issues about that kind "respect" when encountering team Finland in a rink since days long gone by.

Both sides know for sure and very well they must play good team hockey to be able to overcome the opponent.

You don't show respect, you lose.

Finland has already surpassed Russia and I don't know how could you argue otherwise.

If you take a historical perspective, can you point me to when Finland has won a best-on-best event?

Learn hockey history please. You haven't surpassed anything. I think Finland is on the rise but don't put the cart before the horse. Show respect to your opponent.
