This game will not be as easy for Canada as some here think. The US team is young, fast and if they get their patented passing control clicking it very well could spell disaster for Canada.

Canada on paper might be the better team by a small margin (and yes I feel it is a small margin) but this US team is a good team with a good chance of beating us.

Can someone explain why Eichel isn't playing? I haven't read why he wasn't invited/declined.
If he declined, that must be disappointing to US fans (unless he's injured obviously)

How is it a small margin?

There isn't a single guy on the US that is better than anyone on the Canadian team and a ton of guys on the US that are much, much worse than the Canadian team.

Eichel just said he needed a break. He's been playing straight through since before the draft last year and has just played his first 82, well 81, game season. Plus he's already been named to the North American Young guns team before next season. Perhaps other US fans are disappointed, but plenty of top US players declined, as a Buffalo fan I'm happy he's getting some much needed and deserved rest before next season.

You seem to have a strange fixation on USA, based on seeing your posts over the years. There is a very big talent gap on paper. Canada might lose, but it would be a big upset. Eichel should be at this tournament, but players skipping even when healthy is simply the reality.

With our typical cocky attitudes, I really hope USA wins this, and lets see our reactions.

Yeah us Canadians are a nasty bunch..........:help:

I sure hope the Canadians can be competitive in this game. They got a nice, gritty team but CLEARLY lack the explosiveness of the juggernaut that is Team USA. I assume the US will take it easy on Canada and try not to beat them too badly so they don't crush their confidence.

I think Canada will take this without too much trouble. Tho, I hope I'm wrong. Can't help but think it would be too funny if sneaking in by the skin of their teeth was all part of a bizarre plan to catch Canada unaware...would be priceless.

In all seriousness with this game, Canada SHOULD win this game but it won't be a blowout. The US has decent enough defensemen to limit the high danger scoring chances. Team USA's chance to steal this game will come down to 2 areas. Whether they get the Kinkaid from the Czech Republic game or the one who played Slovakia and Canada. The other area is on the power play. With IIHF refs you'll get your fair share of power plays and when you're playing a superior opponent, you gotta cash in. Beyond the Larkin-Matthews-Foligno line, they'll have issues generating all that much 5 on 5. So, they'll need to get it done on the PP. I think they have to load up on the PP. Larkin, Foligno, Matthews all out there together and for a lengthy time as the top unit. 2nd unit just won't generate anything.

Ultimately I expect Canada to win and it will probably be 4-2. Would love to be wrong but it would take a monumental effort from everyone to get that done.

7-2 USA.

Canada is about to get Pearl Harbored.

Hendricks with 2 goals, Tyler Motte 2 goals, Austin Matthews 6 points..

I heard the coaching staff is having the team repeatedly watch Rocky 4 , Red Dawn, and Miracle over and over again...**** just got real Nucks!

Pearl Harbor was a surprise attack on the US, but OK?

I hope Canada loses for playing that piece of crap Corey Perry. Hope Maroon takes Perry hard to the boards and US wins on a PP goal resulting from a Corey Perry penalty

No predictions for tomorrow. Just want to see the guys come out and play the Canadian way. We need to respect every opponent in do or die games.

Good luck tomorrow USA . You might be our best friend and allies for life, but tomorrow we go to battle.

Go Canada Go!!

 The oddsmakers have Canada at -1000 (heavy heavy favorite). That kind of odds means they expect like 6-2 Canada victory (at least).

Can't wait to see some Leaf fans cheering against their own country.

Matthews is a great kid but just remember what nation he represents.

As an Oil fan I hope Maroon and Hendricks have terrible games. :handclap:

That is just wrong.

Matthews is better than a whole bunch of canadian forwards, also Larkin and Hanifin are better than a couple of their canadian counterparts.

The US didn't come close to outplaying Canada at any point in the game. Not really a odd PP since they weren't in defensive mode at any point in the game.

They didn't dominate the shot total because they missed the net on a ton of easy chances. Part of the reason the score was only 5-1 when it easily could have been 10=1.

Larkin would not make the Canadian team.

Probably because Russia was missing a ton of guys that they have now and the Swedes didn't give a crap in that game they played.

And yes all those teams mentioned are better than Czech.

Perry is the only guy that has a chance of making the WC team. Marchand, Stone and O'Reilly aren't anything more than alright. Duchene and McDavid are good players I will give you that.

The defense doesn't have a single top 10 Canadian defensemen on it and likely nobody in the top 20. Reilly and Murray might get there in a few years but not yet. The other guys are nothing special at all or downright bad player (Hutton, Tanev).

The goaltending is terrible. They might make Canada 10 or 11 if all goalies were available.

Duchene would make my WorldCup team, mainly because he's such a dynamic skater ( and versatile too ). Hall is also a dynamic skater so he's in. Perry...Not a good skater, still a Big Body presence who can snipe, plus is really good on the cycle/down low...check. Marchand definitely deserves serious consideration, good skater, good pk guy ( bit of a loose cannon though ).

Would Larkin make this Canadian World Championship team? Yup...

TSN guys were saying that Canada's WC record all time vs Yanks is 39 Wins 4 Losses...Man,...

I wonder what happened :amazed: in those 4 games??? ;)

**** you USA!!

I still love you guys, but it's time for war. Hockey is our game!!

I just want to see the Canadian guys play the Canadian way. It is do or die against our southern neighbours, play our game and come out with insane intensity and let the game work itself out. If we play 100% the Canadian way, I'll be happy no matter the outcome.

We have a Gold medal to win in Moscow.

Larkin will be a fantastic player one day but there is no way he is making Team Canada. Most of the forwards have a lot more experience in the pros than Larkin. The only player that is as inexperienced as him is McDavid. Which player do you see him replacing?

I'd gladly kick Gallagher off this team in favor of Larkin. I'd take Larkin over Domi and Reinhart as well...haven't been particularly impressed with either at this tournament. but they play a limited role and I'd expect them to be better in future tournaments.

Gallagher doesn't see ice for the first half of the first period vs Sweden and then the first thing he does is take a needless penalty in the offensive zone...DEAD Wood, staple his butt to the bench...

Reinhart and Domi hooked up for a sweet goal like 11 seconds after that Swede timeout...But yeah...

Larkin's dah Man...Heck he was excellent for team red white n blue even as a fresh faced college kid in last yr's WC :amazed:
