To me he has looked shaky all tournament. Against Sweden I blame the first and fourth goals on his poor puck tracking. Sure, especially the first one might have gone in regardless, but he didn't even manage to make an effort because he had no idea where the puck was. I would start Olkinuora in the next one.

But why?

Russia needs to score first, because otherwise, Finland knows too well how to defend the lead.
As seen in the game vs Sweden, the 1st powerplay 10 seconds in or so..
No. That's not the narrative. We lose if we can't keep the game as a low scoring affair and they SHOULD be able to skate circles around our team in every position. There's no real question marks regarding Russia coming into this match and I bet they're fired up to win.

It's natural to play the best goalie in the most important matches.

Bolded is true and is impossible with Lankinen.

I expect Finland to win CCCP 4-1. I think second period makes the difference. Finland will keep clean sheet first period and Soviets are getting frustrated. Goals for Finland: 2 for Kaski, Savinainen one and Kakko is making one for sure.

First of all, I'd like to thank Finland for beating Sweden and giving us an opportunity to beat all other top-7 teams in this tournament (Canada please don't f*** this up).

However, we have just beat the only other team that could hope to match us in skill. Our top-9 should just do what is necessary and win handily. This Finnish team is no better than Switzerland and should lose 3-0 just the same.

Never underestimate team Finland, just like Stalin did

Techinally yes.. I would consider it a victory, when Stalins 3 day journey to Helsinki, was actually 105 days " fight in border" journey
I would be totally fine with Finnish "moral victory" while Russia moves on to the finals.

Watch out; Ruski boys!

Killer Kakko, King Kong Anttila and (little big man) Lion King Superman 'imself Manninen ... and of course the rest of the Finland lot - lead by Tarzan Jalonen - will get ya by the neck and throw ya in The Gulf of Finland.

Kreegah!

Well, yeah, but it was a good lesson to Stalin, and a lot of generals and oficers were released from GULAG because of it, and Red Army started to rebuild, and it helped us to beat nazis later... so in the bigger picture we won that war twice. This war, on the other side, we don't need to win twice, one time will be perfectly enough.

Today's the day when the Russian Bear will fall - and the Finland Lion will roar.

Finland bow to no one, exactly no one, remember.

Fear no foe Finland boys ... coz there's only Winnie The Pooh on the other side the line!

As I believe that none of the participants in this thread have actually fought in WW2, I'd hope that we could put this topic aside and just enjoy hockey. Those were different times and different men.

Cheering for your own country and healthy nationalism is fine, of course. Why else would we be having this kind of a competition? Go Finland!:popcorn:

Naturally hoping for a win, but I'd be fine with a 3-2 moral victory. The skill disparity is huge.

And nazis had no clue, how to fight in those freezing winters, something russians learnd from winter war.. in the harsh way

Man, why did JJ put Lankinen on goal for the game. I have a feeling the game will start out evenly, and then every 10 - 15 minutes there is an easy goal for Russia because Lankinen fumbles or loses track of the puck. Then the game ends 2-6 for Russia.
