Sergachev definitely was a pipe dream, as are names like Werenski and Chychrun. Top pairing dmen are not readily available, unless their respective clubs risk losing them, which is the case with Seth Jones.

Seems like you'd rather protect a younger asset than Brown, but whatever either way. Whoever they lose is replaceable. Not sure how quickly I'm picking a 37 year old if I'm an expansion team, but I guess Brown is now guaranteed to finish as a King. Assuming he's done after this season.

So it comes down to:

AA. - RFA, picked up for free

Grundstrom - hope not, but second player from Muzzin trade - still have Bjornfot and Muzzin

Lemieux - only paid a 4th. If we were told the worst thing we would lose is a 4th, I am sure most would take it

Clague - I am not a fan but many are. Previous 2nd round pick that can’t seem to stick in NHL lineup. May have the same problem in Seattle as there is a lot of quality D to chose from

Strand. - I like the guy but he is a fringe bottom pairing guy.

Quick - unlikely but possible. Would hurt the most. Still think he is an underrated leader in that room.

Grundstrom hasn't really lit up yet but has shown some flashes, also seems to be in TMacs dog house. He did lead the Kings in hits but that is just a testimate of how soft we really are. Kinda still want to see what more he can bring so let's hope he clears. Thinking Blake gets who Francis is picking , mostly probably Clague(Signs Wolanin), and an outside chance at Lemieux\AA\Maatta. Nobody will hurt us short or long term.

But, 1 player that is flying under the radar is Moverare. Underrated, he can become a decent player for us.

As for Brown. Brown is still serviceable and maybe if things go south with this team they trade him at the TDL for a last chance at a cup scenario..recoup some picks. He's also turning 37, so it can go south pretty quickly. He starts to become a problem if he isn't producing and blocks a prospect that needs top 9 or PP minutes. Good problem to have I guess.

Seattle could build a top 10 defense in the league with what’s avail for them. They should actually probably take a forward from LA. None of Clague, Strand, or Moverare are waiver exempt either.

If I’m Seattle I select Athanasiou and if I’m Blake I gauge their interest in Clague & Grundstrom and see if we can get our hands on Palat, Kilorn, JVR.. Etc

That's what I was thinking once I saw the list - they may have no need/room for Clague. Then AA would seem very likely, which I am completely fine with.

Still think AA would be a better pick for Seattle than Clague.

It all depends on what Seattle's vision is. Do they go building by amassing picks/making deals, or do they try and follow the Vegas instant gratification route? I honestly couldn't even guess what their plan is, at least with Vegas there was some speculation.

The simulator is active on Capfriendly now, they could put a pretty damn good team together if they wanted to.

Did a quick mock in which all requirements would be met pending the rumour of Dreidger signing a deal with Seattle. That would make 20 contracts selected that extend to 2022 and/or beyond.

Picked Landeskog to potentially flip to another team if Seattle cannot sign him. Colorado actually doesn’t have much available.

Yeah. Seattle is going to have tons of D to choose from. No point in picking Clague.
I'd take AA or Lemieux were I Seattle.

Not sure why people are surprised by Brown being protected. It’s hard to come by a 50 point player that’s only making 5.85 mil a year…

And led the team in goals and PP goals. There's nobody on the roster that could make up his production , no matter how much you like Kempe .
