If blocking is a huge consideration for replacing Davis, I'd be shocked. And some of the players being talked about on these boards aren't good at blocking.

I don't see the Bills having the money for any free agent boundary receiver that's good enough to relegate Shakir the slot role. Nor do I see a rookie doing that, unless Harrison, Nabers, or Odunze drops.

I have a very high opinion of Shakir and don't think he's getting bumped out of the lineup easily.
It definitely will be. But that function should be filled with a cheap vet FA to fill he 4 role. Few rookies are plus blockers, and I'd be pretty annoyed if that was part of their litmus test for who to draft.

My view of the Bills 2024 WR room, by expected targets:

1: Diggs
2: Shakir
3: WR drafted in top 3 rounds
4: Cheap vet FA that blocks well and does the little things right (Hollins, Brown, etc.)
5: Shorter
6: Day 3 pick, other cheap WR, return specialist, etc.

Hopefully the WR they draft can eventually pass Shakir and maybe even be a #1 when Diggs moves on/gets old, but I'd be shocked if any rookie, even a first round pick, was top 3 on the team in targets.

And I honestly think any rookie will wind up being 6th in overall targets behind Diggs/Shakir/Kincaid/Knox/Cook. Maybe 5th if Knox is used more as a blocker.

Sherfield’s blocking was pretty good in the playoffs. So agreed, we can get it from a vet

They just used a 3rd round pick on a player to be Matt Milano's backup, so I wouldn't put it past them. (and then played Dodson over said player all year).

I don't think QJ is a good comp for Franklin, though. Franklin is a much better deep thread and route runner whereas QJ's only real plus attribute was YAC.
Johnston was looked at as a size-speed deep threat. So is Franklin. And Franklin is more one dimensional, in that he’s almost strictly a deep route guy.

Agree. Most of the rookie receiver class are crap blockers. And it’s something which can be taught.

I agree with this. I am a lot higher on Shakir than most people on these boards. If the Bills move on from Diggs, I think Shakir is his replacement. I think Shakir overtakes Diggs as the top receiver target this season.

4 = Sherfield
6 = Harty

Anyone that was projecting Johnston in that sort of role only saw his size and projected 40 time (actual time wasn’t great) and not the way he played. He was always more Deebo Samuel than DK Metcalf in style. Poor separation skills always plagued him. Idk about calling Franklin more one dimensional. He’s a much more cerebral prospect, in my opinion.

That’s true.

I don’t see Franklin as the nuanced Tory Holt type deep threat.

I'll be interested to see his combine numbers (specifically 10 yard split, 3 cone, etc.) because what impresses me most about him is the quick twitch he shows off the LOS. A lot of tall deep threat receivers (Christian Watson, Gabe Davis, etc.) lack the short area quickness/startup and are more long striders that take a few steps to get to full speed. I don't see that issue with Franklin. His first step off the line looks really explosive. I also like that they regularly soloed him him up on his side of the field, with the TE and slot receiver both to the other side. Even with safety help to his side he was still able to get open without being schemed open.

All that said, I think it's moot. He's going to be a riser in the draft process and I bet he goes around pick 20.

Imagine having one of 50 votes in the world for NFL MVP and you can't be bothered to look at statistics and research before voting. Josh didn't have to win but Lamar shouldn't have won.

I'm cheering for SF tomorrow. Trying to be a good cousin since the one I talk football with is a lifelong Niners fan. Obviously I'm cheering for any team facing Kansas City in a Super Bowl anyways so it all works out.

Making garlic foccacia and spinach artichoke dip.
My wife is making homemade pretzels and I'm working on a beer cheese sauce to pair with it. We've also got a spiced apple salad, frozen croissant crust pizza, and french onion dip.
nice! and nice not to have to deal with reserving pickup times, long lines, parking spot shortages, directing traffic, etc, for pizza/wings today.

We also took a hike this morning with the hounds of love but not having those mild 50's anymore wasn't the same

QB has less than 30 TDs and nearly wins mvp unanimously the media in the NFL is beyond stupid.
He pretty much had Tyrod’s 2015 season here + another 600-ish yards passing and a few more TDs, plus more turnovers. Insane. MVP voting has just become “who’s the QB of the best 1 seed”
