Let's not be mistaken here, it's still McDermott's defense.

McDermott will have input in game about play calls, just like he did with Frazier. I HOPE, however, that him having a little less on his plate lets McDermott focus on attention to detail stuff which was severely lacking in the previous role.

Honestly, the bills should pay Belicheck like 5M to come in as a special advisor to McDermott and simply do a brain dump on what he saw from the Bills and what they can fix. And help him game plan defenses for big games.

Hell no regarding Belichick.....not that he'd go anyplace he didn't have any power.

As far as Babich goes........I hope McDermott brings him along relatively slowly. Let Babich learn how McD calls the defense next year and then maybe the year after let Babich call things.

As an NFL aside -- I'm a bit worried about the Steelers hiring Arthur Smith as OC. Yeah, Smith flopped as a HC......but there are PLENTY of examples out there of coaches that are great coordinators but poor HCs.

If he can turn Pickett into Tannehill 2.0 and get Steelers' running game truly on track.........they could be dangerous.

That division is going to be ridiculous next year.

28. Buffalo Bills: Jer’Zhan Newton, DT, Illinois

Newton would give Buffalo a young DT with enough anchor to keep linemen off of Matt Milano, when he’s healthy. Newton actually could be drafted much higher than the late 20s — he ranked fifth in run stuffs and fourth in sacks among DTs.

Boy, I'm not sold on Newton being a fit next to Oliver. Newton strikes me as another 3-tech.......or maybe a DE in a 3-4 D. Certainly don't see him as a 1-tech.

If the draft goes the way the Athletic mocks it.........Brice/Chop/Kinchens might be the BPA at a need position. Not a huge fan of any of the WRs left, though Legette would be intriguing. Franklin might be OK as well. Mitchell strikes me as Gabe with better hands, which wouldn't be awful.....but his separation is lacking at times.

Maybe they eat into a Ravens or Bengals win here n there, giving the Bills a better shot at playoff seeding in the future. But I for one couldn't give a hot tub fart about the Stealers. Not on my radar.

The fact that Dodson went from unrosterable defensive liability to being a key piece down the stretch is one of the biggest coaching feats I've ever seen.

He definitely plays mostly 3-tech in college. Which is saying something, since premier DTs often get forced into nose deployment because of lack of other options (Oliver, e.g.). I definitely don't see him as an nfl 1-tech option.

I agree, Newton is a 3T, though he's got the ability to split the double team. Beane needs to be looking more at DTs like McKinnley Jackson, who played 0 for the Aggies really well.

If the draft shakes out the way the article shows, I'td be hard to pass on Trice or Braswell. Braswell is more of a 3-4 OLB but has that Steelers/Ravens type of toughness. Trice is a power rusher.

Some of this mock is just a far out projection. I don't see Patrick Paul going ahead of Jordan Morgan. Morgan is a way better athlete that Paul, but Paul has the prototypical LT size.

I will likely say Hard Pass on Chop.

He is twitchy, but the lack of care about defending the run and the lack of actual production scares me as early as he will go.

I expect a lot of Bills fans will be drooling about McConkey's day at the Senior Bowl.

Agree, not a super fan of Robinson - too much projection.

McConkey is a great talent but he's not what the Bills need.

I'm so conflicted about McConkey. Dude is a great route runner with terrific hands -- both things we need. But......what's his top speed/YAC look like in the NFL? Is he anything more than a younger version of Cole Beasley?

Frankly, I'd rather get a taller guy that can run and jump.

I do not want to see McConkey go to KC though....or Baltimore.......hell, just keep him out of the AFC please. Dude is going to be a pass-catching menace for years.

Allen probably declined or maybe said he was injured and declined. I don't blame him. The Pro Bowl is meaningless at this point in his career. (I think there is some incentive for guys on rookie contracts) If Tua, Lamar and Mahomes are the best QBs then Allen might as well go enjoy a beautiful week of golf.

I don't know if being named an All-Pro means more to the players or everyone is mature enough to know it's a stupid popularity contest and the best players aren't always receiving the recognition they deserve and all of these "honors" are meaningless.

I mean......if it's playing in the NFL Pro Bowl......or playing Pebble Beach......I'm 1000% playing Pebble.

The only reason I would perhaps want some Pro-Bowl selections would be to shut up the "BRANDON BEANE HASN'T DRAFTED ENOUGH PRO-BOWLERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" crowd. (ffs I've seen somebody question his draft record, citing lack of Pro-Bowlers, All-Rookies, Rookie-of-the-years, MVPs)

McConkey lined up more outside than in the slot at Georgia.

7. LADD MCCONKEY, GEORGIA

As I began my deep dive into McConkey’s film, I wondered if I’d just see a player who was a product of the system and a high volume of targets. But, to quote the well-known Shaq meme, “I owe you an apology. I wasn't really familiar with your game.”

McConkey is the ideal smaller slot receiver. His quickness and acceleration are elite, as is his footwork out of his release at the line of scrimmage. This makes for an already polished and deadly route runner. But it’s not like he’s just quick, either. His long speed and ability to threaten vertically might not be top-tier, but it’s nothing to sleep on. Almost 50% of his yards in 2022 came after the catch, which only adds to how dangerous he is as a slot receiver when you give him space. On top of all that, he’s as willing a blocker as you’ll find for a player who is 5-foot-11 and 185 pounds.

  • Georgia wide receiver Ladd McConkey (No. 32) earned a 96.9 PFF receiving grade against single-coverage this season, which places him in the 96th percentile for FBS receivers.

I see McConkey as a fit if Brady wants to have another moveable chess piece at WR with Diggs, Shakir, and even Kincaid all being guys that they can move all over the place and attack multiple levels of the offense.

If they want a more pure speed down the field threat, then McConkey won't be their guy.
