There's a lot to like with the roster, but to be honest I've never liked what Dubois brings. That hand pass kind of sums him up as a player to me. Takes shortcuts. I dunno if moving Wheeler would do anything and I dunno if moving Schiefele makes any sense as he is still a good player. Hellebuyck was a non factor. I'm willing to give them another shot next year seeing as we were down many significant players due to injury.

I hope the moderators here don’t mind me sharing a little story about how, in a roundabout way, Paul Friesen steered me away from a life or crime, and for that, I will always be thankful, no matter how trash his takes are.

Basically, I wanted to be a reporter for a while when I was in college, but then I saw Paul Friesen (and the others, but he stuck out) continuously getting trashed for being a dumbass. Now, being a dumbass myself, I didn’t think I’d appreciate people knowing my real identity and trashing me, so I stick to this anonymous message board where I can troll Leaf fans on the main board and share my mindless thoughts here. Being a reporter probably wouldn’t work out well for me.

As for the life of crime part, given how poorly most journos seem to get paid these days and combining that with my poor financial discipline, and I’d probably have to rob banks to survive whilst reporting.
Steve is better!

Bones ain’t coming back, don’t blame him!

I am glad he said this in a press conference he is clearly a competitor and there is STILL a major problem with this team.

Dear Mark C you are the boss and Bones was talking directly to you. Own the message. The report card your team just got from a veteran coach who has seen it all is a direct result of the organization you built. The decisions you have made, or avoided, have led you to this snap shot in time. That was a painfully accurate referendum on your leadership.

Your move.

lol media was almost afraid to ask a question. Bones had more passion/pushback in that short clip than the Jets did all night. Feel for the guy.

I don’t think they were afraid. They were probably stunned that they got to skip asking any tough questions because the Coach decided to beat them to the punch.

As a media member they were in the right place at the right time. You set down your pen and note book, grab a bag of popcorn, and watch Bones light the house on fire.

I wonder if Chevy still thinks this team is a Stanley Cup contender and if he does we are in real trouble next year

Chevy is just a guy hanging onto his job. For all we know he hates the team he has constructed. You would be surprised what GM’s say about their teams behind closed doors.

Your Mind
Good the season is finally over. What was mentally taxing watching this team since Christmas.
They deserved to lose this series. Hell they deserved to not even make the playoffs.
I don’t blame Rick for being so pissed off after the game.
This team is so mentally weak. It’s just sad.
Hopefully (should be) and interesting off-season.

Bravo on Bones for telling it like it is.

This core folded when times got tough.

Seattle has no star players, but, they play tough and have the Aves down 3-2.

Even Nashville, with an AHL team near the end of the season almost caught the Jets.

The Wild got rid of Suter and Parise and totally changed their culture.

It's time for rebuild.

I loved Bowness's honesty, and he isn't just pissed about the playoffs he said it started in January. So he's been sitting on these comments until the season was finished, that's a long time. He was obviously hoping our top players would get there shit together come playoffs and they didn't. Dubois, Connor and even Helly all needed to be way better. When Wheeler out plays Dubois and Connor something is very wrong.

Well, that's that eh? I mean let's face it, maybe without the injuries we manage to get to round 2 but this team wasn't going beyond that. And it's likely Vegas would have still taken the series imho. This assemblage of individuals we have on our roster is simply not good enough. It's fine for Bones to talk about pushback, but the players can't manufacture something that they don't have the raw materials for even. 2018 was very much the ceiling...that was the season they actually over-achieved a bit.

It's time for a new GM to take the reigns. The team needs a real culture change.

Ya Chevy has had his chance, time for a change at the top because it all filters down. I will say we have some finesse type players that disappear in the playoffs. Other teams do too but they all look like they are busting their ass's compared to us and as we now know it's not the coaching it's the players.

The problem is though that there likely won't be any strong move made. It will all seem like it's a sudden surprise decision with no plan. Chipman needs to have been thinking "GM change" by the end of this regular season...it needed to be a real possible eventuality in his mind and he needed to be putting a plan in action. If we don't see that change happen PDQ, then it's going to be another half-ass thing like the coaching change last year.

Please Understand
The exit interviews and media availability won't be as firework filled as they were last season, but they will be spicy enough. Wonder if Chipman will sit up and notice what he allowed to fester. They need to clean house.

Bones interview said it all. No pride no pushback. Significant change to the on ice roster is needed. People talk of firing Chevy when nobody expected them to make it, but firing the gm and letting the core group off again accomplishes nothing at all. On Ice changes required more than GM. A new gm don't make the guys on the ice more prideful, a new gm certainly don't eliminate no move or trade clauses to Winnipeg either

I think last year it was the GMs job to fix this team. This year I think it's Ownerships job to fix this team. Up until lately I thought you move a couple of the core players and do a reboot. But where were Scheif, PLD, Connor, and even Helly in this series. Where was the fight back ? The coach with more games than anyone just called out all the top end players and I would say management as well.

When wheels and Lowry are your 2 best most consistent players, it really does say it all. Now Lowry and Wheeler tho would be part of the core tho but they have pride atleast unlike Dubois Connor 55 to a lesser extent (how injured was he)

Well I'm disappointed that the season is over and it ended that way. I'm going to choose to focus on the positive that we played a very strong first four games of this series. The lesson is you can't go MIA for a good 1/4 of a season. The team was in a great spot to control its destiny and flushed it down the toilet and had to play the top team in the first round.

One thing thus org needs to figure out is on how to develop all around impact players. We really have only developed one player who is elite both ways and that is JoMo. Outside of that our core impact players are all incredibly one dimensional and they get eatin up against well organized, disciplined and rounded teams. Stone ate us alive this series by turning his play off the puck into high end offensive plays with it.

I do think there is some optimism for the future if the right development is encouraged, Perfetti as a rookie shows high aptitude on both sides of the puck. We need to develop him as an all around player and not just let him go the all out offense route ala Scheifele. MGroarty is another that shows two-way aptitude. Guys like Lambert Lucious etc need to be developed as allaround players.

If this next wave is going to be successful it is going to have to get by on strong all around systems play. We aren't going to likely have the pure talent to adhoc it like the Oilers.

I've heard ownership has been a little to Hands on over the years, heard Chevy had a Wheeler trade lined up but Chipman kaiboshed it.

No i'm not saying just change the GM i said it starts at the top and filters down. A new GM is going to want to make the team he wants and that's going to come with big changes.
