Prospect Info: Sean Farrell, C/LW, 124th Overall

His skating is looking just about pro average for me at this point. It helps that his hockey IQ is good enough to allow him to anticipate where he needs to be a lot of the time. He certainly hasn't been behind the play a lot in his first 2 games.

Been on the right side of the defensive puck.. there's been some plays he's rushed which has resulted in the play not moving forward, but that's just the difference in timing NHL vs NCAA. He'll adapt.

Good article on Belzile taking care of Farrell. We dumped a lot of crap on him but seems a genuine good guy and presence for the young players.

Belzile, future coach somewhere

or he mistakenly got the puck to Hoffman and not Suzuki. :sarcasm: But all kidding aside it was fun to see player who could read and find Nick in the right space.

I've never dumped on Belzile why would anyone. I actually said he was a better player than Mike Hoffman just last night. :sarcasm:

Farrell will have to be better than , Heinemem, Roy, Kidney, Mesar, Beck, RHP in the next traning camp.
Not sure he will make the team next year.

I still think MSL goes on merit - at least in terms of what he's looking for.

I think Hoffman and Armia, and Slaf, and Gurianov, if he's still here, are also candidates to be beaten out. So RHP, Heineman, and Farrell could theoretically all make the team. Though I think that's unlikely at this point.

But based on what I've seen, Farrell starts in Laval.

MSL did not go on merit with Slaf this year and I doubt it will be his call next season. Are HuGo able to recognize they made a mistake by keeping Slaf with the big team this year?

RHP, Ylonen, and even if you think they were not better than Slaf, it does not matter. The most important thing was to do what was best this year for Slaf, it does not matter who the team would have had to take his spot. It could have been Belzile, it does not matter, we all knew the Habs were not going for the cup this year.

Who was better than Slaf?

So your philosophy is to keep players in the AHL as long as possible? I can see that, but I still believe that if you earn a spot, you earn a spot or else you make them play not the right reasons. Like Barron, he didn't earn his spot, went to the AHL and worked on his defiencies. Slaf was ready for the NHL in my opinion. He would have destroyed the AHL.

So they need to go by merit, except for Slafkovsky is what you are saying?

It depends on what they think of Houle. He was probably far better off learning form St Louis than whatever Houle might be able to teach.

Hard to compare all these kids playing in different leagues, but Farrell looks soft. Just a couple of games in, but honestly was expecting more with all the talk on this board for the last 2 years.
RHP, Heinemem, Beck and Roy are higher on the totem pole imo. Actually don't see any of these kids going in front of RHP going into next season.

I find this place rather quiet. :D

Seriously, kid isnt ready thats obvious, skating/size is an issue for now, he isnt the only one struggling though, so not easy for him to show anything he has to offer. Its likely going to be Laval next season, unless he shows up at camp stronger, faster.

He's got a lot of adjusting to do, but I think he has the tool set to carve himself out a role in the NHL. I expect he'll be starting in Laval to start next season.
