Prospect Info: Sean Farrell, C/LW, 124th Overall

He’s another small, soft, smart player.

The Habs have had so many of them over the past two decades that they’re almost interchangeable.

I know it’s a very small sample, but he’s looked about as vanilla as you can get so far.

I watched like 5 minutes of the game because it was terrible to watch. He looked a little bit small but this player never give up. He needs to get stronger this summer and he's going to be a good player in Laval or Montreal next season.

He is vanilla. A 2nd line winger that produces and plays a fair game. Hes a 5th round pick ffs, it is a good thing.

This is Montreal where we tend to fall in love with players who pan out far better than their initial draft positions like Evans for example but the reality is the odds of them becoming even remotely close to what a young Gallagher was is slim to none. Not drafting particularly well in the early rounds can probably do this to you.

he's a softer version of Pitlick, nothing special here that I have seen.

I think he'll need a year or two in Laval. RHP is much better now than he was at 21. He's now 24.

When Farrell gets bigger and stronger, he'll also be faster and more explosive.

Of course he will. His skill and smarts are very clear. Just needs to develop some more strength and confidence at pro level which I don't doubt he will.

Hoping he makes these pitlick 2.0 takes look like hot trash in a few years.

His skill and IQ are there, he needs some time to adjust to the speed and physicality of the NHL game.

I think there's a good chance he can get there, but it's not a certainty and it will not happen over the course of the next few games this season. I'll be very curious to see how he performs in training camp among the rest of the *fingers crossed* healthy squad, but I expect he'll be sent to Laval to start the season and will stay there for most of the year.

If he was 6'3 he could take over a game with the amount of skill he has but he's 5'9, has a lot of stamina, he's really smart on the ice and he can skate in the NHL, his shot is underrated and as a playmaker he doesn't have a lot to work with with the HABS roster. He can't even play with Caufield since Caufield is injured.

We will finish the year with one 40 pts player.

I’m not surprised Farrell is mot putting up numbers.

It also puts into perspective Slaf season at 18. A guy like Farrell after putting on a show in the NCAA at 21 don’t not dominate right of the bat.

Lmao this board.

The expectations are you either dominant and are a stud, or you have to adjust and are a f***ing bust.

A lot of people ready to fold it in on him despite the fact that there's an adjustment he needs to make to the space, speed, etc. of the NHL offensively.. but yet none of those same people are able to at least comment and say how good he's been defensively?

But it's the same people who are now putting Joshua Roy ahead of him after last year, despite a very good showing in the 3rd round of the AHL play-offs, wrote Roy off because of his skating.

It's a balance. I read a lot of people overhyping our prospects and others who don't give them enough time to develop. Farrell was seen by a lot like a sure thing for the top 6 next year. We now see he's gonna need some time.

Farrell immediately jumped from the NCAA to playing in the NHL with minimal practice time, also the team has been playing with one legit NHL top six forward in Suzuki.

As of now it looks like he might need some time in the AHL next year, but I won't be surprised if he looks much better in training camp when he has more practice time with NHL players and we have our injured players back in the lineup to help insulate him.

I think there are also some fair takes. He does have some work to do and will probably be very hard pressed to make the team out of camp. At his size he is just going to have to be that much better than a player with some bulk regardless of who it is.

Only the exceptional few don't require time. And as is obvious, Farrell is not exceptional.

For sure, but not all make it. To see people calling him a 2ndliner player even after his debut, is kinda mind boggling. He's an AHL lvl player for now, which is totally fine.

Many 5th round draft picks don't even make it to the AHL. So, all-in-all, we received excellent value in drafting Farrell where we did.
