Prospect Info: Sean Farrell, C/LW, 124th Overall

Kinda true lol the most important is a PP QB

That is not true at all.

McDavid and Draisaitl are the reason fo Edmonton's PP success as they have never been able to find a true PP quarterback. The same goes for Toronto as Marner and Mathews drive their PP while they are constantly looking for better options than Reilly. Even Tampa who have some very good Dmen like Hedman and Sergachev, their PP is mostly about Point in the bumper and Kucherov/Stamkos on the dots.

The most important thing on a PP is having multiple shooting options and multiple players who can break down one on one coverage in order to collapse the box. There is no particular position that is most important other than the position that your best players happen to play.

I posted highlights from the game in the stickied thread but I wanted to add that during the game they said that the Leafs GM was at the game, as well as former NHLers Keith Tkachuk (scouts for the blues) and Justin Williams. They said there were several NHL scouts in the building (game was in southern NJ) but those were the only ones they named.

This is why I don't bother with that nonsense. I was calling him out in real time against Sweden as he was consistently dominated on both the rush and the cycle. He looked equally as terrible against Canada and Slovakia but played his best against weaker opponents even though he was still being sheltered with limited ice time. I find that posters tend to see most action through the lens of their confirmation bias and the only way to show them otherwise is to call it out in real time. I have watched live games with people who I have entirely changed their perspective by predicting how plays will develop and predicting how players effect the development of a play. With players like Lane and Slaf fans are blinded by their need for the player to be special and gush over anything that they perceive to be positive while entirely dismissing the sometimes significant volume of poor plays.

It is also no surprise that there was not a peep on this board about him for most of the tournament as he struggled mightily and was used sparingly by his coach. This was of no surprise to myself whatsoever and entirely backed up what I have seen in glimpses when he is faced with defending top college players.

Lane is still really young and extremely physically immature. I am equally as excited as I was when we drafted him and am not disappointed in his poor defensive play because I already accepted that as a problem as did every other NHL scout which is why he almost fell out of the 2nd round. Let's see where his development is in two years because I absolutely see the potential for him to be a special player in the NHL one day

Gotta give you credit on Cooley as well....I would absolutely take him over Wright at this point.
I remember at draft scouts were saying if he was 3 inches taller Hutson a top 5 pick

That is just a foolish thing to quote.......it isn't even a quote because you can't name any scout who actually said such a ludicrous and irrelevant piece of nonsense.

I honestly don't even know why I am replying to this lol.

Lol my god, you should chill on Hutson it’s becoming a little weird.

A near 6’ Hutson would’ve been drafted top 10 in the 2022 draft, yes. Not that crazy to believe that.

If you think being objective is being ridiculous then so be it....

He was not counted on in many big situations and was more often than not overlooked even on the power play. He had a poor tournament and was underwhelming to say the least in most of his games.....any other way of looking at it is just false.

Yes he made some good plays........but like I pointed out earlier you are glossing over a larger volume of poor plays in order to support a failing bias.

So you think that being among the least used dmen and not producing and clearly not being trusted by the coach equals a good tournament? Imagine if he was just decent, I am sure half the board would be putting him in the HHOF. How many times did you need to see him turn it over and lose the foot race or have attackers beat him to the outside or get easily pushed off of the puck on the cycle? He showed early on that he was not physically ready and the coach cut his ice time accordingly.

Why is it so hard to just be honest and say the kid is a great talent but was overmatched this time around because of his current physical limitations?
I hope he has a great tournament next year as hopefully he will have gotten bigger, stronger and faster but he was just too slow and too weak to be effective this time around.
Didn't mean to insult you.

He literally made the play to win the USA the bronze medal in overtime, so yes, as the tournament progressed, more and more he was used in critical offensive situations. He finished top 10 in scoring for d-men, and 4th for 18 year-olds. All that while playing behind a strong group of 19 year-old defensemen for Team USA.. Solid tournament!

everyone talks about this guy as he is some next coming of Richer. take one look at the top two on Harvard and I take Alex Laferriere in a swap straight up. Now take a look at the coyotes board, and see if anyone even cares about Laferriere. In other words, relax on this prospect he has a long way to go to crack into an NHL lineup.

Take a look at teammate Coronato and the CGY board then.

Stop, if the Coyotes board isn’t talking about Lafferiere it means we shouldn’t appreciate Farrell’s game :help:

If you look at this screenshot, that shows Farrell still out-producing this player.. you'd notice that you'd be an idiot not to trade Farrell for Lafferiere!!

I don't know who would ever call Farrell the next Richer either lol.. nobody thinks Farrell is a one dimensional sniper.

Guaranteed this guy has never seen Farrell play to know about all the other elements to his game which make him such a highly regarded prospect and why he represented and played big minutes/situations for the USA in the Olympics and World Championships.

Of course the coyotes board aren’t talking about Lafferiere he wasn’t even drafted by them.

Did you even see anyone there?

I don’t really understand why some people wants to shame others who has been watching those prospects and try to argue we should ‘’relax’’ when they never watched them themselves.

But he would take Lafferiere in a swap straight up and then proceed to show their stats where Farrell has more points like you said lol.

I really don’t get your point. Farrell is beating him on the box score in everything but height and weight?

my point is, Harvard is a decent team - but these numbers are nothing great... these prospects are sooooo far down the list that they are negligible. reduced to "box score" eye test.
if Im looking at stats only - yes of course you take the bigger guy with better scoring (which Laferriere clearly is) unless NHL teams nowadays are on the lookout for 5'9" set up guys?
