I knew him way back in Major Junior and he was a massive asshat and a locker room cancer. With how many teams he's played on and the inability to really stick anywhere I wonder if this hasn't changed. He didn't get along with the coaches, made crazy demands, stayed away from teammates and wouldnt sign anything for kids or fans. He was a massive diva.

Quick, fetch me my fainting couch. He was and is self centered? :O

Then only watch Sprong when he’s in possession of the puck and skating fast. Don’t watch the other 98% of his time on ice. Then you’ll enjoy him on your club.

This is pretty much it. I liked Sprong but you have to staple him to a purely offensive line and expect absolutely zero coverage. Nope, not even a "oh, he'll backcheck once in a while." Literally zero. He's lost in his own zone.

I still like him and he had his best season in Seattle so I think it’s a smart move for them. He’s cheap so if it does not work out all they lost is “future considerations”.

I would like Sprong to get a shot with Stephenson…

The skill is there but I’m thinking he’s an airhead.

lol I remember over the summer when he was a “top 10 value contract in the league”

Yup the number of people pencilling him into the top 6 was kinda hilarious given his history. This was the most likely outcome for a player who has major defensive issues and can't play well with star players. He's not a Connor Garland who can drive his own depth line. Ultimately no harm in taking a flyer on him, but even more important to know when to cut bait.

i didn't hate his defence that much, but i hated his impatience and recklessness in the ozone. the guy will take any shot or try any pass that pops into his head regardless of the likelihood of success and likelihood of a turnover if it fails. the rest of the canucks play a patient structured possession game in the ozone and he does not understand that. he's a guy who would bleed odd man rush turnovers if you gave him leeway to play the way he wants.

what he reminds me of are the various tantilizing high talent russians who won't/can't play the nhl game but in his case i think it is a toolbox issue rather than a cultural divide.

I’m a Kraken fan, bud.
This. He wasn't working here. Toccheti is an old time Sicilian. He wants guys to run through a f***ing wall.

Francis and Rutherford have history obviously. I can see some of the Vancouver board needing some gripe water if he chips in 15 - 20 goals for the Krakens but he wasn't a Tocchet guy. Vancouver needs a slightly crazy, mean MOFO up front even after Dak comes back. With a bit of skill. This team is two players away from being a top dog. Sprong wasnt one of those guys. He can still play the game. Canucks probably get a scrub from their farm team at some point or a 4th for a 5th.

He seems like a decent kid but he isn't a systems guy like Suter, Heinen or Teddy.

Seven different NHL organizations in seven seasons......surely that's an NHL record that will never be matched.

He could probably lead the AHL in goals. He reminded me of the Keith Aucoin/Alex Giroux/Chris Bourque type guys the Caps would recall after 90-100 point seasons in Hershey that just couldn't put it all together at the NHL level.
