I like Kakko but there always something missing. Three Rangers coaches had issues with him. He can be a good player but he won't be the player selected 2nd overall. His contract is up again next summer. The picks allow the Rangers to make trades for roster players like other teams do.

Flip Borgen at the deadline.

LOL. Yeah, they're going to flip a third-pair guy with an awful +/- at the Deadline for a first round pick.

The Rangers definitely leaked that to EJ as damage control. No doubt in my mind.

Didn't make the club out of TC, did he? I thought he should've, but he didn't.
I mean neither did Berard, and here he is. Mancini did make it, and he clearly needs more development. It is what it is. My point remains though, Othmann was drafted where expected, is developing fine, and isn't behind his comparables from the class.

I don't even particularly like Othmann, either. LOL.

Ben Chiarot got a 1st round pick from the Florida Panthers of all teams. Dont go down the memory hole.

If rangers sell they have all 3 retention spots available so will have a lot of interest in Smith, Borgen and Lindgren at the TDL. At 50% retained each one of those players at minimum will fetch a 3rd and likely at least 2 of them get a 2nd

Borgen buys Mancini time and will be flipped.

Will Borgen from viewings is not as bad as people are calling out here. He’s a bigger guy who moves well and isn’t afraid of physical contact. I could conceivably see a scenario where Drury took Borden back to even out salaries with the thought that, should the team continue to struggle, he could flip him for a couple of picks at the deadline and allow Mancini to play bigger minutes in the AHL until that time.

3rd + 5th for Kakko
3rd + 5th for Borgen at the deadline

All of a sudden, the deal looks far more beneficial for the Rangers
