Proposal: [SEA/MTL] Guhle + Calgary 1st for Matty Beniers + 2nd (Toronto)

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

the same reason Mtl might at all consider trading Guhle (inability to stay healthy) is why it would be a stretch for any team to give up what it would take.

Healthy, Guhle has played at the level of a top 20 #1dman. He's 23 and signed for 6 more years at under 6M$. If he can find a way to stay healthy, he'll become one of the best bargain contracts in the league while giving Mtl one of the better top pair LHD.

Pass for mtl.

Not even close

Here we go!

I know that like every proposal here on this site, it'll be probably too much for one fan base and not enough for the other.

But before making this proposal, I've studied the rosters of every NHL team (as a Habs fan) for the perfect trade match up.

I've noticed that Seattle has some depth at center while being a little shallow in terms of quality LHD.
As much in terms of actual NHL players than prospects.

MTL need a 2nd line center while having depth at LHD.

Beniers and Guhle are two very good young players.
Beniers has more upside and is a center, that's why there's a mid 1st rounder added from Mtl vs a late 2nd coming from Seattle.

Thoughts?
No chance in hell

Why would they trade arguably their highest ceiling center for Guhle lmao
Some would say Catton has a higher ceiling no?

Never said they should trade him btw I just don't think he's untouchable considering they are at a surplus in that position.

Guhle is underrated tho. His health is my only concern with him otherwise he is fantastic

And yet I wouldn't trade Guhle for Beniers straight up.

Massive contract aside, Beniers is shaping up to be a 40 pt second or third-line center. Guhle plus a lower tier prospect should be enough to take on Matty as a reclamation project if Seattle eats some salary as a sweetener.

Seattle says no.
Montreal also says no.

I can just imagine the Habs doing this, and then Guhle blossoming into that big physical #1 two-way D that MTL has needed since Weber. Meanwhile, Beniers struggles under the pressure and publicity of playing in MTL and ends up as a disgruntled 40-50 point C during his time there and starts demanding a trade after a couple years.

I also get why SEA wouldn’t want to do this. Why trade a young promising top-six C for a D who may have 1D potential. Beniers is already a top-six C; we hope Guhle becomes a #1D.

For SEA it’s an unnecessary gamble, for MTL it’s a risky one. I think both teams would rather just keep their guys.

This might be one of those rare cases where a Hab is underexposed. Guhle is really good, if injury prone.

Beniers is the better asset and I wouldn't make this trade, were I the Kraken, but it's not a terrible proposal.

Guhle has value, but the future injury risk on a long contract is real. Beniers carries much less risk. I want to see Guhle stay healthy for a season or two. Good player, but he's a mildly distressed asset today because of the injuries.

He'll be a Hab for a while, I think, and likely a good one. That blueline is going to be real solid in a couple of years.

Habs not moving Guhle. We Plan on building great defense. Around Guhle, Hutson, Reinbacher. Terrible offer

Beniers is 22 and putting up 40+ pt seasons on a team with literally no offensive talent in the top 9.
In terms of PPG this year Beniers is behind Stephensen,Schwartz, Wright, McCann, Bjorkstrand (gone), Kakko, Eberle, Montour (D), Dunn (D).

He technically wouldn’t be in your top 9 in terms of production despite being given PP1 and on average 20 minutes a night.

At what point do the player start to get some blame for his lack of production?

Does Guhle have the offensive production to be considered a #1D? Not trying to discredit him as I know he’s a stud, but I don’t know it if I see the offensive upside to be considered a #1D
No. He probably has a couple of 30-35 points season in him but he’s not going to be producing at a typical #1 D pace.

The way he plays and the way he’s been progressing since being in the league shows that he is likely going to end peaking as a very high-end #3 or very good #2 but I don’t think he has “#1 D in all situation” in him, which is ok since we have Hutson and/or Reinbacher who are probably going to fill out that role anyway
