Thought with some of the other bumps to discuss summer contracts, this one was also worth it.

Despite some skepticism - and of course, with the caveat that applies to all long-term UFA deals that the backend won’t be as fun - I’d say Montour is more than earning his stripes.

Hat trick last outing versus Montreal but missing tonight versus the Leafs as Seattle comes unraveled is really driving home the point. With the star blueliner from the past couple of years, Vince Dunn, missing much of the season so far - Montour has been a stud. 4 goals, 9 points in 10 games with a +3 while racking up big #1 minutes. He affects both sides of the ice and is a big reason Seattle is looking frisky again (when he plays).

He’s really good when healthy, a true top pairing defenseman. We shall see how healthy he can remain for the duration of this deal but so far - this seems worth the risk for Seattle. Once Dunn gets back, there are some nice blueline options on the table for the Kraken.

Every night he looks like the best hockey player for the Kraken. He's easily the most noticeable player when he's on the ice. He's such a great skater. I don't watch many Panthers games, so I really had no idea how great of a skater this dude is. He's definitely been a massive improvement over Justin Schultz and definitely gives of great personal vibes as well. Cool dude.

Every night he looks like the best hockey player for the Kraken. He's easily the most noticeable player when he's on the ice. He's such a great skater. I don't watch many Panthers games, so I really had no idea how great of a skater this dude is. I feel like the Kraken was a good market for him. He wouldn't survive in a crazier media market. He goes cold and makes boneheaded decisions (he was really awful in the finals for example) which would pick him apart.

Overall though, his toolset and abilities are a great add. Being a RD is a bonus

It's going to be tough for sure. We need Beniers and Wright to take the next step. Evans is already playing like a legit top-4 D-man and I don't think he has hit his peak yet. We do need a few players to hit their absolute ceilings from our prospect pool. If a couple of our prospects among Rehkopf, Firkus, Catton, Nyman, Sale, Price, etc. can turn into those elite players, we have a good chance.

I can see that happen with a couple of players above though I am not one for counting my chickens before they hatch. Time will tell.
