Helly is getting scapegoated because fans need to cope I guess. Sure he wasn’t good enough in the playoffs but our team got shit kicked. Move him and at least we get to improve our draft picks over the next 5 years because we would suck. I don’t sense that is what the owner wants.
DeMelo is a critical asset for the Jets if they want to remain competitive, especially if Dillon is moving on. Schmidt should be bought out now. I don’t think Pionk is a top 4 defender any more and think the Jets would be best to move on, if not now, then at the end of next season. They could move him at the TD if we are out of the playoff race other wise own rental is ok.
I am an Ehlers fan but I am fine if the Jets are moving on now. He has a slight frame and has had injury issues so that next contract scares me.
I am very much in favor of replenishing draft picks, eventually we will need to refill our cupboards with drafted assets to leverage ELC’s. Start with adding more picks then trust the process again.
It’s about balance and Paul needs to give back to Peter here again.
Helly is the reason we make the playoffs and he is also the reason we don't do well in the playoffs. Weird.
I realize we played horrible these past playoffs and I'm not putting it all on Helly but Helly is one of the very best goalies in the league and also tied with Scheifele as our highest paid player, i expect more from him. At the very least steal us 1 single game in the playoffs and for the last 2 seasons that hasn't happened.
Yes both things can be true. Idk if he is THE absolute reason we didn't do well but a large part for sure.

Based on goalies that played at least 20 games, Helly had the 4th best SV%, 6th best GAA
Playoffs...

Let me try and put it another way, McJesus is Edmonton's best player and if he played bad in the playoffs Edmonton fans wouldn't be very happy because he's their best player. Well i would say Helly is our best player so i unfortunately expect more from him come playoff time.
Agreed. Only takes a couple guys playing like crap to bring it all crashing down. Jets had a few too many of those guys in the playoffs.

Hockey's a funny sport. Its very likely if your goalie is your best player you are probably going to lose more often then not.
I don't think any goalie in the league would have helped us beat the Avs in that first round. I think the team stunk it up pretty awful and its easy to point fingers at your goalie
Ya agree we played so bad we wouldn't have won the series with a great Helly but him stealing a game would have been nice.
Helle getting criticism for his last couple of Playoffs is fair. He hasn't been good enough.
But given his track record in the regular season I still think the smart money is on him getting hot in a playoffs or two and leading us deep.

You also don't know how Helle playing at his peak would have affected the teams confidence.

It’s almost riskier going into the playoffs with hellebuyck than Brossoit at this point. Only one has proven they can perform when it matters.

Yeah he hasn't played more than 24 games in a regular season in his career. Giving him a starter's job at 31 is going to be a tough sell for a team with playoff aspirations.

Oh fer sure.
But it is just a thought experiment. How much could we acquire with a Helle trade? Probably not enough to make it worth while. And the likelihood is that LB reverts to the career backup that he has been.
But if he plays like he did last year and we get good stuff back in a Helle trade .........
