My focus is the tank and this helps it imo, sure the replacements could play well but odds are they won't be nearly as effective as 90/91 and we'll probably lose even more which is great. I'll be visiting Tankathon's mock draft simulator after every set of games looking for us to lose our way into the top 8.

We’ll easily lose our way into the top 8. Maybe top 6

Could anyone correct me if I am wrong? I thought in the draft the most you could move up was 3 draft spots? So if we finish outside of top 4 we can't take #1 in the lottery?
There are technically two 'lotteries' with both the #1 and #2 overall picks up for grabs. So anyone finishing in the bottom 11 spots in the standings can win the 1st or 2nd overall pick. The 12th worst team can 'win' either lottery drawing, but since they can only move up 10 spots it would cause them to pick #2 or #3 overall (depending on which they win and who wins the other).

tank is irrelevant. they are not bad enough to get a top 3 pick and not good enough to make playoffs. this is the worst spot a team can be in. we are now the Minnesota Wild.

Also if by some act of God we do finish top 3, guess who gets our 2nd round pick due to our brilliant GM thinking he was worth 2 players, 1 of which was a chemistry/team guy and that high 2nd round pick? Trading people was going to hopefully speed this process up but nope our great GM fumbled the ball once again as usual.

so Army, was Leddy worth losing Perron, Sunny and a high 2nd round pick?

Who cares if they're not finishing with a top 3 pick? If they finish inside the top 8 they have a great chance at landing an impact forward in this draft. There isn't a miracle defender rated anywhere in this range so realistically they're taking a high end forward. This should be something to celebrate, the reward to this disaster of a season. The tank rewards and selling expiring assets are the only priorities of any relevance left to us. It's pretty much the only good we have going and now it's enhanced significantly by the injuries to 90 and 91.

Just go with it man, enjoy the tank. Choo choo.....

The kicker is I've read they're both to be re-evaluated at the 4 and 6 week mark - not expected to be back at that mark.

They could easily be hurt past the TDL.
These types of bone injuries have very reliable time lines. They'll probably be ready to play at those marks, but with the trade deadline looming I expect more 'caution' to be taken. I don't really see how the trade value is negatively affected.

Tarasenko is not known for being a fast healer. ROR is durable so who knows about his healing abilities.

Expect them both to be with us after the TDL due to Armstrong being a failure.

what are the odds of this top 8 pick being the best player on the team in 3 years?

Not good because aside from one season in 50+ years this teams luck sucks absolute ass.

I will say that this organization pretty much always uses the 'will be re-evaluated' language when announcing injuries and it has tended to be a shorthand for 'this is the target date for him to be evaluated/cleared for full participation' rather than 'this is the next date we'll get a meaningful update.'

According to the press release announcing his injury, Perunovich isn't set to be re-evaluated until the beginning of March but is already practicing with the team. Obviously he has had follow up appointments and was evaluated/cleared for light activity.

I think it is a safe bet that the 'evaluation' being referenced by the Blues is the expected timeline that their team physician will be performing a serious evaluation about whether they can play again rather than a simple 'how ya feeling' checkup. Injuries aren't always predictable and initial timelines are often inaccurate. But I wouldn't read anything into the re-evaluation language to suggest that these injuries could easily last past the TDL. Both guys are pending UFAs with millions of reasons to take rehab as seriously as possible. They know how much a strong playoff push/run on a contender can help their next contract and will be trying hard to get back on the ice before the TDL. Based on the info we have, I think it is pretty likely that the are both back in the lineup for the last 2 weeks of February.

Just noticed an article in the Post about Perunovich’s recovery - Blues notebook: Return still a ways off for Scott Perunovich, but he's tired of being hurt

He acknowledges it wasn’t a fluky play and it was because he stuck his arm out.
“This one wasn’t fluky at all,” Perunovich said. “I just put myself in a bad spot. I’m not really sure what I did, and I saw the video once right after when I was in the locker room right after. I didn’t really want to look at it again. I think I just stuck my arm out for some reason.”
Sounds like the rehab has been isolating but his teammates (Thomas and Binny are specifically mentioned) have reached out to make sure he still feels a part of the team.

I find it surprising how much pro teams jettison injured players from the day-to-day operations of the team. This isn't a Blues thing. I feel like every behind the scenes 24/7-style docuseries has an interview with a player talking about how injuries are so hard because you're not part of the team when you're hurt.

In a cap league, I feel like investing a few hundred thousand dollars into a a department/strategy to keep injured guys embedded in the team culture could offer an edge over other teams at a pretty nominal portion of the overall budget.

This is the type of thing that I would love to get more insight on from an insider. Not that we'd get all the answers for why things operate the way they do, but an interview from some journalist with some executive would make for an interesting read.

If you think of it as a job, it makes sense.

There's WAY TOO much money involved now.

Back in the day, when there was less money involved, I would think this was not the case. Players played for the love of the game and their teammates. Now it's make your millions as fast as possible before you have to retire due to injuries and old age. It's a simple business transaction.

Thomas comment is super interesting, that he offered to let Peru stay with him and be taken care of. I am thinking more and more that he is our next captain. Maybe next year we have several As and no C and then following year Thomas is C?

Between that type of stuff, how much the Blues have pushed him to be available for interviews, and his big contract, he will 100% either be the future C or at least an A next season. Schenn makes sense, but it also could be like when it went from Backes to Petro and skipped Steen, granted Petro was a lot more established at the time than Thomas is. Symbolically, Thomas would mark the changing of the core/guard as opposed to naming Schenn who is more of the previous core.

Thomas-A

I don't think it's like that. I view it as going on a date as the 3rd wheel, you're still friends but you don't get to f*** the girlfriend too.
