That's a piss poor return for a 7th overall pick but it addresses a need. Kinda think we could've managed to NOT move Holtz for a 4C though especially with Schmid added in.

It sucks when the key to a deal is a very low contract but that is what is going on here, Cotter is signed for 2 years at league minimum when he is clearly much better than that. The Devils paid Schmid and Holtz to get a pick but also to not have to try to outbid the 20 teams for Yakov Trenin on Monday.

Does feel like Fitz plans to spend a lot of money on Monday.

Pretty much this, our bottom 6 reeked. The trade sucks but in the sense of asset management, I think the Devils bundled Holtz to the point where this type of trade happens and as much as we loved Schmid for the heroics in 2023 playoffs, it's clear his time was up also with the drafted goalies and the AHL guys already there. These guys were on the outs but there had to be better out there than a bottom 6 C.

Good trade. Holtz had no future here and would not compliment our lineup as well and didnt have much value.

Catton is a good big center/winger that is still young that hits and can play up and down the lineup.

There’s gotta be some coaching or locker room issues with holtz. Even after Lindy Fitzgerald couldn’t bring himself to say anything positive about him. Terrible asset management

From Vegas perspective this might be more of a trade for Schmid and than Holtz considering they moved out Thompson to save a little cap space.

Absolutely, but I think because Vegas have raided their young players/prospects so hard since their inception, betting on Holtz's upside makes sense for them. Again, it would not surprise me if Holtz is not in the NHL in 2 years, but it also wouldn't shock me for him to be a 25 goal scorer (if he figures it out).

We turned a #7 overall and the hero goalie of the Ranger series into a 4th liner.

Cool.

Really though Schmid earned a lot more team respect than we were giving him.

That performance was unforgettable.

Would have parted with Daws before Schmid. I know he struggled last year, but who the hell didn't.

I have no problem getting Paul cotter (MM replacement) but couldn't we have gotten him for holtz and a pick instead of giving up on Schmid.
