They DID kind of have to trade off one of Schmid/Daws/Poulter this offseason though, you couldn't really have all three in the AHL

I hate to do this again though but everyone was ****ing for a McLeod replacement. We just got one

I hate to break it to you guys but Schmid had little to no value at the NHL level.

Goalies do not go for much, not to mention his horrible stats last year and we now have 3 goalies ahead of him on the depth chart.

Holtz is Holtz, ive heard from people in the org they really didnt like his hockey IQ above all else. 2 pieces the org had really no interest in keeping / needing

I disagree that Schmid had little value, it all depends on what you mean - Schmid is a great 3rd goalie to have right now as he is still waiver-ineligible. He had a down year but to me his value should've been around a 3rd or a 4th round pick, chances are he's never an NHL starter but he has that potential and even if he improves a little bit, he's a backup.

Feels like that’s terrible value for Holtz + Schmid.

The contract is nice on Cotter, but Fitz better have something up his sleeve for this to make sense.

Yeah I just don’t see the purpose of trading Holtz for that. I’d rather just keep him
Where was Holtz gonna play this year in our lineup?

I’ve previously said I thought Holtz’s value was at most a 3rd round pick at this point. Is Schmid for Cotter a bad deal? Cotter seems like a solid 4th liner and is cheap. We have a logjam of goalie prospects and I’m not sure they have that much belief in Schmid anymore.

Agreed, Id think hes worth a 4th at this point and time with our org depth now in net - it makes zero sense to keep him.

League min for 2 more years and Cotter averages 3 hits per game. Think we just found our big physical 4th line LW that we needed on a good contract.

Would have liked to have kept Schmid but I'm mostly fine with this. Not a believer in Holtz.

I wouldn't be surprised if Schmid asked for a trade after getting jerked around the last few years.

Holtz clearly didn't have a future here but I would have liked for them to have been a little more patient. Regardless, it's clear his value isn't' very high and that GMs view him as more of a reclamation project than anything else.

Cotter is listed as a Center but he only took 53 faceoffs in 76 games last year. Doesn't seem to play special teams either.

This just seems like garbage in/garbage out so I'm not going to throw a tantrum. Still don't really get it.

He has some wheels at least. Signed for 2 more years at 775K. I can see some appeal there. We’ll see.

Better make up for this bullshit on Monday! Give up on a 7th overall pick at 22 years old for a 4C. Not to mention Schmid who probably has something to prove. C'mon man.

It sucks when the key to a deal is a very low contract but that is what is going on here, Cotter is signed for 2 years at league minimum when he is clearly much better than that. The Devils paid Schmid and Holtz to get a pick but also to not have to try to outbid the 20 teams for Yakov Trenin on Monday.

From Vegas perspective this might be more of a trade for Schmid and than Holtz considering they moved out Thompson to save a little cap space.
