Yep if our PP gets one last night it’s an entirely different game. It’s our number one asset it needs to be clicking or we won’t win.
I agree although it’s hard to get a shot or pass off when you constantly have Barkov stick in your hips hands and arms. I point to game one the “solid defensive play” where Leon was slashed three times in the hand before the puck was pushed out of the zone.

I mean, it started as an accurate thing that morphed. The accurate statement is “the team with home advantage isn’t in danger till they lose at home”. If the home teams win every game, the higher seeded team wins every time. The only way the lower seed can win is taking at least a game on the road.
Bobby Mac always put it this way... if you are the underdog and you hold serve at home, then you force a Game 7 where you just have to win a single road game to win the series.

4 of the next 5 but you can't think of it like that imo. It's cliche but it's legit just one game at a time. We've already seen momentum doesn't carry over game to game. If this team plays the way we know they can, they got a legitimate shot at coming back in this. Next 2 games are at home, if we do what Florida just did to us, it's a best of 3. I won't panic until we lose a game at home.
Don’t bother. He’s just saying things to make everyone around here feel down and negative. This is Christmas to him.

They'll never say it, but I do think Bob got into their head last game. They did manage to skate into the slot a few times last night, but every time they looked off the shot and passed it back to the outside.

They also need to do a better job skating into shots. Bouchard's gotten more than a few looks, but he's been mostly stationary and the Panthers have been 100% committed to blocking his shot.

They need more movement and to actually tee up guys that are skating into uncovered lanes.
Really? Because they scored on their first shot and Bob looked mortal. The Panthers team defense was the big issue in game 2 with their speed, aggressiveness, and ability to clog passing and shooting lanes. Failing to put pucks on net while overhanding the puck with a largely perimeter game was a problem. It's a habit this team can slip into as they play a puck possession game with elite processors who probe for coverage mismatches or openings. Unfortunately they didn't press on their opening goal lead.

Bouchard hit a post on a rocket. But he also had to play 30 minutes due to injury and had a bit of a deep water learning experience game with penalties and a tough giveaway.

Bad PP or not, being f***ed by Refs huge still has a huge effect on 2 games with tight margins.
Exactly a ref can’t win a game for the opposing team but they can influence key points in a game. Thus far they have now done it twice this series. Just waiting for the Leon suspension now to complete the screw job.

To be honest, Lemieux, Jagr & Crosby didn't have all star players beside them all the time and still they produced and made them around them better.

- Joe Thornton made a 50 goal scorer of Jonathon "F*****" Checchoo.
- Mario Lemieux made 91 points with Konstantin Koltsov & Rico Fata.
- Sydney Crosby as a rookie made 105 points with Michel Ouellet & Colby Armstrong.
- Jaromir Jagr had Jan Hrdina & Kip Miller as linemates 98/99 and still won the Art Ross with 127 points, making Kip Miller a 20 goal scorer.

Drai should be able to make a guy like Holloway much better if he had anything of what that guys had.....
This is bang on

He must be banged up bc I hated how stationary he was at times. Just forcing dumb passes

You know within the first shift or two which drai is showing up. He looks fast like a horse when he is on and engaged

Here's where I see the problems on the PK:

- We hold the puck at the point waaaay too long and they are bringing pressure on both point men. Quite often we'll have the puck point, they'll send two checkers aggressively to cover, and we STILL sit on it. They have to get the puck off the point faster because there are lanes open low. They are playing extremely aggressive which means we have to get the puck moving, but we just won't.

- Shoot. So obvious, but f***ing shoot. I thought our first two power plays weren't that bad fundamentally, but refusing to shoot the puck took away any chance of scoring.
On the holding the puck at the point too long- I agree to an extent. Leon refuses to move out of the corner and Hopkins refuses to leave his square. McDavid is the only one rotating. Way too static.

I also hate how Leon has reverted back to playing off to the side on not challenging the middle (this is 5 on 5).

Islands in the stream.
McLeod sure looks a lot like a poor man’s Kailer Yamamoto. I wasn’t a fan but I’d take him over McLeod and Foegle to name 2.
Have you seen Yamamoto in Seattle? The player that got HS 25 games and was pathetic there? That Yamamoto, last season started out on first unit PP. He had 7G the whole year and he had tons of topsix time too. It took months before Seattle finally realized nothing would get Yama going.

McLeod just came off a 30pt season where the vast majority of it was bottomsix. If McLeod had 82 games with Drai, just like Yama did, he'd clear his totals.

The swings the refs have been making in this series have been impactful. Like literal penalty shots are being ignored. Entire delay of games which are automatic for every other team in the League are getting ignored. We have guys taking head shots not getting even a call, while we stare down a possible suspension with our head shot. Officiating has been egregiously gamed and biased towards the Cats.

Yeah man I'm sure he can't wait to get away from playing with the best player in the world on a team that just made the finals to go to like San Jose. Some people I swear.
You really think the Oilers are paying him 15 million a year as he hits the decline?

I don't see this as being f***ed by the refs. The Oilers either have to convert on the PPs they are being given, or match Florida's cheap play with hooks, slashes etc. They aren't going to get 5,6,7 PPs a game from the refs.

McDavid is the only one rotating, but he's also the only one refusing to shoot as a result of the lane he created rotating.

I find this team gets into funks where for whatever reason they uniquely find ways not to score individually, but also at the same time as a group. McDavid not shooting, Leon parking on pucks then turning them over, Bouchard dusting pucks off at the point, RNH missing the net at a ridiculous clip, etc, etc. All of them find a way to frustrate you in their own unique ways.

Maurice knows how to coach a team against the Oilers after all his years in Winnipeg. Panthers are playing us like how the Jets played us a few years ago.

Yah it does look familiar in that way. It's hard watching your team get absolutely suffocated and snuffed out. I don't agree with the officiating being an issue.

Florida have put Leon and McDavid in their place. Hell they've pretty much put the whole team in their place.

Hopefully they can turn things around in Edmonton. I know they're giving it their all. But they also look hurt and worn down unfortunately. They just can't get through the playoffs without injuries to pretty much all the key players. They'll never come out and say it. But watching them for years you can tell they're a hurting unit. I'll be proud of them no matter what happens.

Not getting the amount of PPs you are owed is getting screwed by the refs. Yes it would be nice to just fight fire with fire and we’ve been doing EXACTLY that. But when the standard of officiating for both teams is different, it just digs us a deeper hole. For example, Bouch gets head shotted no call. Drai returns the favor gets called. Another example, Bouch gets kneed 2 mins. Foegele returns favor gets called for 5 mins.

Bad officiating or not, being 0-7 on the PP is awful and there's really no way to spin this around on the refs. The Oil deserve to lose if they can't score on the PP.

Especially when we've been given 7 PPs in 2 games.
What does 7 pps have to do with it? when they were getting away with other penalties that they deserved?

People didn't believe we could win 3 straight against Dallas and we did it. So yes, it sucks that we're down 2-0 but it's possible, if any team can do it, it's a team with Mcdavid & Draisaitl.

This team hasn't faced forecheck like Florida all playoffs. And they dont just forecheck, they try to punish and injure with intent.

It's like everyone on FLA plays like Benn

looks like Barkov is gonna be ok
another Panthers miracle!
Must've got the memo that the NHL wasn't gonna look at additional discipline for Drai. Not sure if its been mentioed here but Subban was angry about it and that Drai and Foegele should have had suspensions. Messier, staring like a dope just nodded head and said nothing to counter despite Mess as a player doing worse 500X in playoff play in his career. indeed the Drai play could easily be characterized as a Mess play, a Gordie Howe play, and its always been part of the game. I'm not gonna cry over the elbow, its again what the fans here said had to happen to mitigate the best Florida player. To let him know you're there.

Oilers fans: We gotta get in Barkovs grill, we can't let it be easy for him out there.

Drai does exactly what is asked and what is needed.

Some Oilers fans: Well we didn't want it like that.

lol
