My dad passed away Saturday night and I've been feeling numb since then.

I'd been here and glad/trying to be a help to him in any way I could. he had been unwell and declining, so it wasn't entirely unexpected, but it was incredibly tough to see what I had to see even though I'm so glad I was here when it happened.

I have memories of a child watching Oilers games with him and the cup win in 1990. His enthusiasm is what made me a fan. He had talked to my brothers about hoping to be alive to see the Oilers win another before he died.

He was a huge fan and it was a thing that brought us together when I felt like we sometimes otherwise didn't have much in common.

So while hockey right now to me feels less important than it did a few days ago, I will welcome the distraction and hope this team comes out swinging.

I may or may not be here to shitpost watchalong tonight, but just wanted to say GO OILERS.

Now and forever, man.

Do this thing.

My dad passed away a little time ago, and watching this conjures up all of those memories as well. Was hoping he'd be here for when this team finally put it together, but just couldn't hold on long enough. But, they're still watching with us, don't you worry.

Condolences and all of the positive thoughts to you and your family, NP.

My sympathy for both you and your family. This type of loss reminds us of what's important in life and makes everything else (like hockey) seem trivial.

I'm not sure why they don't have Kulak with Nurse, and Broberg-VD as bottom pair. That's eventually the future next year is them as a pairing, and they played a ton together in Bakersfield.

Perhaps too much for basically rookies to be together in the SCF, but they would have limited minutes anyway.

@McClelland edit: Posted just after you, similar thoughts
The team doesn't want Broberg to have limited minutes. he got close to 18mins in game 1. Broberg is looking great and bringing too much to be on an underused third pair.

Can people shut up over gagner already. We're were dominated last game in the physical aspect. Carrick needs to draw in. And Vinny better be coming in to play heavy or he will be completely useless as well
Gagner won't play for the single reason that we're 2mths into playoffs already. You just CANNOT put somebody stone cold into SC final unless you're up 3-0 in games and doing it sentimentally. Its as people forget how long the post season has been and how long Gagner been sitting.

Further Gagner only played in last game of season, one game. Other than that his last time on ice was March 3. So he's been out over 3mths.

Sorry for your loss. I will say from my experience of losing my dad back in 2007, watching hockey games by yourself will take time to adjust. I always missed my dad when there was a big play and we could talk about it. This is why it's important to have another person who you can share those moments with, and it will feel a lot better. Not the same (it'll NEVER be the same), but it will at least keep you at peace.

I hope this brings a good distraction for sure, but always keep those memories alive about you and your dad.

Kane has not looked right for a long time this year
Ceci is just a big liability in todays fast paced hockey
If they both do not play they will not be missed

I think Kane will be missed, even if he isn't playing close to his full self. But what someone else brings to the lineup might be more important, as Kane is clearly hurting.

Just got the notification only phone, looks like Knob listened to us did the unthinkable of scratching Ceci. It's about damn time is what I, and all of us, say. Perry should be next, not sure what he does out there. At least McLeod and Foegele are fast and pressure the defense like they did in Game 1.

I'd reverse Henrique and McLeod along with Vinny and Broberg.

Once again I'm raising an eyebrow at Knob's massive pair of balls when it comes to roster moves. I thought a safe move would be to reverse Kulak and Nurse and have Kulak-Ceci shoulder second pairing minutes while Nurse-Broberg got acclimated in a 3rd pairing role.

Though I'd still do that, as IMHO Kulak-Vinny is a better pairing than Kulak-Ceci, and they'd give you maximum insolation for Nurse-Broberg.

As for McLeod/Henrique. I don't mind Henrique with Drai, but McLeod just can't generate offence at centre. Meanwhile McLeod's one elite talent fits well with Drai.

Also while Perry hasn't been good, I'd like to see him with a linemate that actually trys to slow the pace down.

The next bold might be to scratch Nurse, if he has another bad game. Ceci getting scratched is fine but Nurse made the errors

Finally Ceci is a HS but having to shelter a $9M D is laughable at this stage of his career and the significance of the games we are playing. That said it is what it is and KK at least has the stones to do it unlike Dummy Jay.

That said the 3rd line is a joke. Both Foegele and McLeod have been a waste of space for most of these playoffs and Perry playing with them makes zero sense. Youd be better off HS Perry for Ryan or better yet HS McLeod and put Carrick in with Foegele and Perry. McLeod just is out for a cardio skate, wont hit, wont engage, wont drive the net.

If Carrick is just placeholding for Kane then that is unfortunate.

Draisaitl needs someone who can score on his line and Henrique is the only other top 6-level player.

Not disagreeing with that but Kane is battling that injury and he has been sending some poignant messages to Bennet and Ratboy. Perhaps we see Kane inserted for Foegele with McLeod and Perry. Either way we can agree we need more on the 2nd line left side and its time for Holloway to bring it as well.

Lmao cheap shot.

I wonder if that loser had the same energy when Bennett knocked out Marchand with a sucker punch
You hate to see it. haha

For this kind of pounding clowns reason alone we need Kane in lineup and he is doing the things he can do. He's also creating useful chaos in front of Florida net. I somehow missed the hit on Tkachuk while watching. Glad to see it now 15X. hehe

This is exactly why Henrique has been different than most players Drai gets. Not only is Henrique talented his skating and health still allow that to be a factor (unlike Perry or Kane) We're wasting Henrique not haivng him with comparable talent and we're wasting Drai too. Henrique is on the skill level of RNH but is physically stronger. He works well with Drai. Would be a shame if it doesn't happen again.

If we are going Nurse-Desharnais I am worried

That pairing doesn't have a good history. I'm not sure trading Ceci's better mobility for Desharnais' size and physicality is a good swap

But I will be hopeful about it.
