Oh I had forgotten about Kaleta.... hated that POS

I would have Lindros on my list along with Chris Simon and Turner Stevenson for taking out Prucha.

I want a team like Colorado has. One that's good enough to win games even if they had a Denver high school goalie coach in net. I watched the whole "get outplayed and bailed out by your goalie" show for almost 15 years with Lundqvist, I don't need to see another 15 more years of the same show starring Igor.

Everyone wants a team like Colorado , these things are rare . They’ve been smart but also incredibly lucky.

Half the forwards and a third of the defensemen playing for the Avs tonight will be free agents. The starting goalie too .
Good thing they’re winning it all this year.

It doesn't matter that your goaltending is bad if you always have the puck.

I said this before the ECF, when people said Colorados goaltending was weak we could take them on. I said we’d never touch the puck.

Glad I'm not watching the Rangers get absolutely smacked right now.

A cup final sweep would be devastating for this young team...

You misspelled Tom Wilson...

FYI… this is the level of camaraderie that gets 7-0 SCF wins:

If the Rangers took practice HALF as serious as MacKinnon, Duchene, McGinn, Landeskog and Stastny took lip synching to Imagine Dragons… look out.

Makar offensively is the closest thing to Bobby Orr we will ever see
Brian Leetch scored over 102 points as a 23 year old. Makar is 23. Leetch scored 34 points in the 94 playoffs. Makar has 24 these playoffs. 10 points less than Leetch had.

At age 22 Orr scored 139 points.

Leetch scored 20+ goals 5 times.

Orr's highest playoff run was 34 points, same as Leetch.

Makar is not Orr. He's not Leetch. He's not Coffey. He's not Bourque. He's good. He has a chance to one day be in that group. He's not yet.

Brent Burns had similar seasons to what Makar did including playoffs.

Leetch had 34 points in 23 games.Makar has 24 in only 16.Context matters.I would bet my house if Makar played 23 games he would score more then 34.This is a special talent we are watching in a much harder era.

Like last night, there was no mention of the Avs scoring a touchdown until they netted their 7th, and last night was not the exception.

You rarely hear an announcer say "touchdown" or bring up football analogies when a team scores 6.

Well… they’re mostly ex hockey players. Good old Canadian boys don’t care much about American football. They probably “know” a touchdown is 6 + 1 for the after point, but just consider it an automatic 7 as it is in most cases and call a 7 goal game accordingly.

I don't think it's a harder era at all. In fact, it's far easier for talent now to shine. Leetch had to play through the trap/dead puck era that stifled offensive talent. He had to play against some of the best defenses, goaltending in the history of the sport. The NHL now is not harder at all. The rules put in place to manifest offense... Leetch would crush Makar's numbers now.

Canada has a prominent American football league, though.

94 was start of dead puck, but that was the Devils and 1 or 2 other teams. After the Devils won in 95 that's when the copy cats came out. Between the trap and left wing lock the neutral zone looked like WW1 trench warfare moving 2 feet every 2 months.

Leetch had 2 incredible playoffs with 1 being a conn Smythe. Makar will easily surpass his points and games played. Sorry sometimes we hold our heroes in much higher reverence through memory instead of reality.

Leetch’s 102 point career high came in ‘91-92 when goals per game were consistently 3.5 and better, just before the cumulative drop in goals for between 93-94 and 94-95 as the league crept into the trap/clutch n grab era: NHL League Averages | Hockey-Reference.com

This year was just over 3 goals per game. This is not an easier era to score in than the pre-1994 league that Leetch participated in IMO, at least according to league goals for averages. In fact it was probably the other way around due to goalie size/pad size/etc.

LOL. People are nuts. Hall of Fame players, some the top 2 or 3 defensemen who ever played the sport. But Makar, who had one good season is somehow leaps and bounds over them? Yikes.

Can we all just agree that Makar is amazing and it’s even more amazing that the Devils passed him up. Let’s just leave it at that and enjoy watching a great player be great.

He’s pretty studly. It’s early to anoint him better than Leetch or in HoF company but it’s also naive to discount him as having one great season or not thinking that he’s absolutely elite. He’s already over point per game for his career, over point per game through 50 career playoff games and not a one dimensional offensive defender. As much as I tire of hearing his tires pumped, I also have to give him his due. He’s a beast and a joy to watch.

People are just as hellbent on declaring Fox better than Makar because Fox won the Norris.

It's disingenuous to write off what Makar is/has been doing as a flash in the pan. He's got the positioning/defense, he's got speed, he's got elite offense, he's on the PP, he's on the PK, and logs 25-30 minutes a night through the regular and post-seasons. Anyone would be hard-pressed to find something he 1) doesn't do and 2) doesn't do at an elite level.

In the parallel universe where Makar and Fox were switched between COL/NYR, Fox would be the one touted as a top 5 defenseman of all-time and we would be wondering "What if we had Fox on the Rangers?"

never touch the puck is right. i haven't seen such puck control and passing, since i don't remember.
maybe those Sabre teams of the early 2000s. They were great.

Avs are an incredible team.

Regardless if they wrap this series up early or not, the off-season is not starting till July anyway.

So screw it , just let it go 7 games. More hockey to watch. Lol
