Honestly, I hate the Buch trade on the surface (love Blais, just like the ROI) but I'm still cautiously excited. We're certainly changing up the culture and getting tougher to play against. I'm going to wait to see the entire picture. Do I think we could have gotten a 1st instead of 2nd in the Buch deal? Yep. Is Goodrow about 350k overpaid? Sure. Knew he wasn't signing anywhere for less than 3M with the hype surrounding him though. I'm not going to freak out over the difference between a 1st and 2nd or 350k cap space until we see the completed picture in a few more weeks. Overall, I actually like the direction.

Changing my vote to "have a bad feeling" But ill give him time to see his vision for the team

I really liked Gorton outside the Kreider deal, but I still was very excited for Drury after the strong start with the coaching change. Goodrow and Buch deals have turned the excitement into something very different

The deal has to lead to something else....you don't give guys away for just that return .....they must have wanted the Cap for something else they have in mind .

So far it looks promising.

— Goodrow’s contract is good in the sense that we get two full years to evaluate him, and if he doesn’t perform he can be bought out at a low cap hit. He can hopefully bring some leadership and toughness.

— The Buch trade was going to happen, when a player like him gets a bridge deal you will never get a good bang for the buck. Keeping him at “market value” didn’t make any sense when we had depth on the farm.

Not locking him up long term was a monumental mistake this franchise must learn from.

— Dealing Howden was the right move. Hopefully Gauthier is next. We can’t afford any depth passengers.

— Gorton’s big problem was not ensuring that he got proper support from within the organization. I don’t like that Drury hasn’t put more focus on this. It’s not good. But hopefully the intentions are there. We will see.

Whoa!! You lost me at trading Gauthier.

1. I was on board with him firing the coach.

2. The Lindgren deal was good.

3. The Howden trade was good.

4. The trade for Goodrow was good; the deal to extend him was okay; in all, I like the whole of the transaction.

5. I liked protecting Rooney.

6. I don't like the return on the Buchnevich deal, but without knowing what else was out there, I'm left to assume the other offers weren't great. I don't think it was realistic to hold onto him and trade him at the deadline, unless we were unexpectedly out of playoff contention.

In all, a bit of a mixed bag, but generally positive? I think I felt the same way about Gorton early on. He made the Eric Staal trade, moved on from Yandle, homered with the Zibanejad trade, traded for and later signed Smith, and made the Stepan trade which was not particularly popular at the time. I think people forget that Gorton wasn't exactly beloved by the fan base in his first year or so, and even from then on his trades, signings, and draft picks weren't exactly all gold. None of that has anything to do with Drury other than to maybe offer some perspective that we shouldn't judge him too harshly based on his first few moves.

But whatever, it makes people feel better to freak out, I guess.

Love the Goodrow signing but other than that this kid is struggling out of the gate..

Still trusting (and hoping) that Drury has a bigger picture plan that we aren't seeing yet that will make some of these moves make more sense, but my faith in Drury has certainly taken a hit today.

His first real move as GM (besides getting rid of Quinn and bringing in Gallant, which I think was good) was extending Lindgren. I think he did well on that contract. Lindgren is an important piece of our D core and someone we needed to keep around.

The Goodrow trade was good (assuming they had a good idea they'd be able to sign him). Not a fan of the contract at all. AAV is a bit too high and the term is bad, especially with a 15 team NTC. I think he'll be a good player for us, but we'll see how much his stock was pumped up just by playing on Tampa with great linemates.

The Howden trade was fine. Nothing really stands out.

I really feel he missed a major opportunity with the expansion draft. The Rangers essentially had two free protection slots. Hajek and Rooney were NOT worthy of using up a protection spot. I can't imagine there wasn't a single team out there who would've sent us an asset to protect a player or traded us a player at a discount because they were going to lose them anyway. I just can't justify them wasting those spots on Hajek and Rooney.

The DeAngelo buyout was pretty much a foregone conclusion, so nothing there.

The Buchnevich trade was a mess. I don't understand it (again, unless there's some greater plan that's going to come to fruition in the next few days or weeks). There was no rush to trade Buch. You've got plenty of cap space this season, so you could just sign him and either move him at the deadline or next offseason, unless Drury has enough faith in Kakko that hes' ready to be a first line winger and enough faith in Kravtsov that he's ready to be a second line winger, which may be true). The move makes a bit more sense (though still bad value) if the Rangers bring in an expensive center (Eichel, Kuznetsov, etc.), but that would have to mean that neither Kakko or Kravtsov is likely going the other way in a trade, because then who plays #2 RW? Kreider? And obviously the #16 pick is out the window now. So what's used as trade bait? Multiple D prospects? A 2022 1st? Better be lottery-protected.

And I don't understand the pick at 16. I was pretty shocked they made the pick at all, but I don't know why the Rangers always feel the need to go off the board.

It seems like they're trying to get a bit "harder to play against" (which is sometimes better done by adding more skill over grit in my opinion) and I'm sure Drury has a plan, so I'll reserve final judgement on this offseason until I see the opening night lineup, but I'm fairly underwhelmed right now.

I've lost faith the Rangers rebuild is in capable hands.
Took the words right out of my mouth. We’re back to being a clown show with Dolan and Sather leading the way. I can’t stand those two morons. I just wish fans would have the balls to not show up to games, and possibly not spend a dime on the Rangers this season. Because I’m definitely not.

We’re destroying the rebuild to attempt to become contenders a year sooner. If we had stayed the course, we would have made the playoffs this coming season regardless. And idgaf about being tougher if we sacrifice this much skill.

We're ruining the rebuild?

I don't see it. At all. I mean we traded Buchnevich, which has seemed like an inevitability for a couple years. We didn't get any great young assets but we got a decent mucker and a second round pick; it's not like we traded him for a 33-year-old stopgap 2C that would be gone in a year.

Instead of trading our first for an established player, we kept it and drafted a guy who is several years away. That seems like the opposite of trying to speed up the rebuild.

Like, does anyone really think Gorton wouldn't have also tried to add a guy like Goodrow to the mix? I mean we talked all season about how they needed to get tougher, more physical. Everyone knew we'd be doing that. Of Gorton were here he'd also be looking to get tougher. They started last year drafting Schneider, Cuylle, etc.

I can understand not liking the return for Buchnevich, or liking the deal we gave to Goodrow, or wishing we took a flashy skill guy instead of Othmann. But have we really abandoned the rebuild? What should we have been doing instead? Let's not forget Gorton was a guy who always signed some shitty goon to play in the bottom six, and signed Jack Johnson, and made his own fair share of questionable draft selections and handed out some poor contracts.

I just don't see it. Again, I get the frustration with some of the moves, but this sky-is-falling shit seems over the top. We didn't trade away our picks, we didn't trade away Kravtsov or Lundkvist or Kakko or even Jones or anyone else in a win-now move. We traded our best RW because he was about to get expensive and, oh yeah, we have some other pretty exciting young players who also play that spot and need more minutes.

And, we may yet move out some young assets. That, too, is an inevitability. We've all know for a long time that we'll have to trade some D. Just like we knew we'd have to trade a winger. This all, to me, seems like a continuation the path we've been on, even if the specifics of certain contracts or trade returns aren't what we all think of as ideal. It's still following the blueprint.
