Wow, we're all about the same exact age. I thought I was the only graybeard here. :) I agree: the Kings (assuming they prevail) will present a huge challenge to us. Quick and Henrik are virtually a wash. Their D are as good as ours, and their forwards have an edge over us. Gaborik may be the X-factor....I'm sure he's going to want to prove what a mistake it was to trade him. Nash, Richards and Marty are going to have to become more of a factor for us to stand a chance. I'm hoping the LA-Chi series goes 7 games and quadruple O/T in the next 2. Anyway, this is gonna be a fun SCF! LGR!!!!

Rangers are going to need to frustrate the Kings. Most goals for of any team in the playoffs and it's not even close. Two big scoring lines and the Doughty/Muzzin pair are just tearing it up. The bottom pairing for them is a little weak. If we can stop Crosby and keep Malkin somewhat in check at the same time--it's very possible we could do the same to the Kings but the Kings have a lot better defense than the Penguins and a lot better goalie. One game at a time. Whatever happens we need to win one of the first two road games.

agreed, eco's. Not taking away anything from Montreal, they are a very good team and it was close series, but I think both Chicago and LA present tougher challenges, and a SCF game will be more intense than a CF game. I think the Rangers have a high level of confidence and get some rest and hopefully can get back into it quickly. The more I think about it, if LA's going to be the eventual winner, I'd hope they'd win tonight. Think I'd rather face CHI (partially because I like the original 6 matchup, as well as my best friend lives there), but if it's not to be, I'd like to see LA away from the intensity of the matchup, and out of the flow as long as the Rangers. I do not give much thought to the rest; they'd still have 3 days and that's ample enough for them to recharge.

Whoever wins the West and I'd prefer Chicago--better it goes the full 7 games. The more wear and tear for either team the better for us. 3 days rest should be enough for almost all their guys but there's more likelihood of some of their players being more banged up anyway. We can use any advantage we can get. Our best chance to beat the Kings is keeping the scores down. Against the Blackhawks I see more goal scoring. Crawford's been looking really shaky lately. Counter attack with speed and a good forecheck and we could give them real problems.

Apparently the rule is that you need to play either 41 regular season games for the team, or play in the Stanley Cup finals. I assume they make an exception for backup goalies. As of right now, if NYR were to win a guy like Diaz would be on but a guy like Falk wouldn't be. Carcillo probably won't.

I think you just have to play in the playoffs, not just the finals.

I am pretty sure that teams can get exemptions and without a doubt they would get one for Carcillo.

Eh, we're the fan base that calls Brodeur the most overrated player of all time, talks about how the Devils and their trap ruined the sport, etc. Rival fans are always bitter and coming up with reasons why the other team isn't that good and doesn't deserve respect. The Devils fans on HF (as a whole) might be more obnoxious than most, but it's nothing we wouldn't do if the situation was reversed.

I don't see any of this on a regular basis. Unlike the hate that their board spews daily.

Too hungover from pining over lost draft picks celebrating to really contribute much, but man does it feel good to beat the Habs. Bring it home, boys. :handclap:

eco's...

sometimes I don't know if it's good being off beyond 3 days. 6 days vs. 3 days can be a disadvantage at times. To some it's an advantage but each situation is different. It will be what it will be, then again. I seem to stress that first game so often because it just feels good to be up, but sometimes it's the game after that's just as important. Whatever it is, just glad I'll see hockey in NYC in June! No game on Flag Day...was kind of hoping for some irony!

I think it will be an advantage. I may have thought otherwise if they swept Montreal or won 3 or 4 straight to close it out. They won a 1-0 nail biter (albeit a great team performance) after getting drubbed in a very sloppy game two days earlier. I think some rest will do them well. If the Kings win tonight, theyll have 4 days off too. Hopefully that one goes 7.

Any time Brodeur does anything noteworthy, our fans are out in a full chorus of absurd hatred. If you don't see it it's because you know it's ridiculous and ignore or (or it's deleted, heheh). And do you remember what it was like leading up to, during and after the 2012 playoff match up? Our guys said some truly asinine things.

We don't have the inferiority complex that they do, and aren't completely obsessed the way many of them are, but we can still be pretty ****ing stupid at times. I guess my overall point is that no fan base is without it's dolts, and it's better to just ignore it all than get bent out of shape.

Posted this in another thread, but it was never acknowledged. Am I the only person who caught that the Habs were offsides on the play leading to Hank's huge save? The puck came out of the zone by over a foot and was inadvertently knocked back in off of Boyle's leg. Obviously the save is all that matters, but if that puck had gone in.....I don't even want to think about it.

Again, we say our fair share. But the level of hate is nowhere near theirs. It's a completely different mindset.

I honestly think that a large percentage of their fanbase is psychopathic (or sociopathic) sometimes.

I think at this stage in the season, especially because the Rangers have played 20 games, some rest is very beneficial. They have banged up players and 5 days off could be a huge help in getting the team refreshed and focused on the finals

Plus they can practice that power play a little more :D

It's really hard to see it without another angle, the usual viewing angle doesn't seem to show conclusively what happened

I've already begun mental preparations for the ******** that will inevitably ensue from the puck going off the official's leg before Moore's goal.

A puck that is directed back into your own zone, even if the opponent is still in the zone, cannot be "offside". That's a legal play and play continues.

I agree with you 100%.

If you slow it down and freeze frame, it does. I had a guy at work telling me the same so we went frame by frame and he was shocked at how clearly the puck came out of the zone by at least a foot.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if the puck is brought back into the defensive zone by a defending player, the opposition doesn't need to clear the zone. Therefore, the offsides was called off.

The puck wasn't directed back into the zone though, it simply deflected off of a leg inadvertently. My understanding was that it is not offside if the defending team brings the puck back into the zone. I could be wrong, but that's how I've always understood the rule.

EDIT: I stand corrected:

"When a defending player propels the puck out of his defending zone and the puck clearly rebounds off a defending player in the neutral zone back into the defending zone, all attacking players are eligible to play the puck. However, any action by an attacking player that causes a deflection/rebound off a defending player in the neutral zone back into the defending zone (i.e. stick check, body check, physical contact), a delayed off-side shall be signaled by the Linesman."

It doesn't have to be carried back into the defensive zone for the offsides to be called off. I believe as long as it touches the defender before it goes back into the zone, then the offsides is called off.
