All depends where they are, and how he's doing. What if they could get a pitcher for him?
I highly doubt it happens too but I wouldn't rule it out completely

We don't need a pitcher though, especially for one of our top hitters.

My guess was going to be Wells, but I remembered that the benchmark for his type of player was already set.

Wasn't Raul Mondesi getting paid more in 00 than Delgado?

It was in the offseason after the 2000 season. Delgado signed a big extension ($17+ million per season) to make him the highest paid, then A-Rod signed later in the offseason.

Don't look now, but the Jays' elite offense seems to have returned, and without any help from the gods of babip:

JUNE: 132wrc+ (#1), 112rn (#2), .280babip
Last 30dys: 122wrc+ (#1), 154rn (#1), .282babip

meanwhile, the gods have stopped gifting the red sox, finally:

APR/MAY: .341babip, 128wrc+ (#1), 308rn (#1)
JUNE: .305babip, 104wrc+ (#12), 83rn (#13)

Sure but did you expect these kind of numbers?

funny but he's been on pretty much the same war pace this year as the year before we got him. less defense but more offense.....but then again an offensive boost was expected with the home field change.

Do we know much about Travis Hosterman? We went way over slot to sign him (400K bonus, 100K slot)

I don't think it was expected to the point of a 162 wRC+, though.

yeah his babip won't hold up. good news is his babip has dropped 20+ pts lately and his wrc+ has actually gone up thanks to the power surge.

I'm now starting to believe he might have turned into a legit very good 130wrc+ bat at age 27, after being a solid above average ~110wrc+ bat at 25-26.

If I had to guess when they acquired him, I probably would have pegged him as a ~115-120 wRC+ guy going forward, with the upside to move into the 130 range if the home park change really played up his power.

Obviously there still plenty of time left this season, but even ZiPS now has him pegged for a 128 wRC+ over the rest of the season.

yeah the 2yr split was a small sample but had him at 117wrc+.

but even then, regardless of the home park change, he had been fairly steadily improving to a 126wrc+ at 27 so the 130 mark was probably in range if healthy no matter what.

I would probably have Carrera after Tulo or Pillar and bump everyone else up, but it's understandable that they're giving Carrera a shot given the way he's played so far.

Interesting lineup.

When Saunders and Tulo are your 6 and 7 hitters you have a good team.

A bit of an outlandish idea I had last night to keep Sanchez in the rotation but minimize his innings. Has the added benefit of giving us a free extra man in the pen for most games as well. Needs a specific positioning on the schedule to make it work, the schedule link below for reference. Hear me out.

http://toronto.bluejays.mlb.com/schedule/?c_id=tor

Basically the idea, is the run a 6 man rotation, where Sanchez and Hutch rotate their start back and forth, and inbetween starts get sent to the minors. However there's the rule that a player has to be down for 10 days before they can be recalled(except for injury). Normally you'd start, 4 days off, start, 4 days off start, there's 9 games between those every 2nd start. So you'd have to work it so you fit an off day in there. Hutch keeps on his schedule starting every 2nd start in Buffalo. Sanchez goes 10 days between starts to keep his innings down.

Post all star break, re-position the rotation so that Sanchez starts on the 15th, which is the first day after the all star break. This is negotiable because we have a lot of days off coming out of the all star break, you could skip that spot completely for a while, the goal here is to get him starting on the 27th which fits the future schedule for this plan. It then follows like this, with all these games being every 5th game with offdays sometimes inbetween...

July 15: Sanchez Starts, Option Sanchez, Call up Reliever A
July 22: Option Reliever A, Call up Hutch, Hutch Starts, Option Hutch, Call up Reliever B
July 27: Option Reliever B, Call up Sanchez, Sanchez Starts, Option Sanchez, Call up Reliever C
August 2: Option Reliever C, Call up Hutch, Hutch Starts, Option Hutch, Call up Reliever A
August 7: Option Reliever A, Call up Sanchez, Sanchez Starts, Option Sanchez, Call up Reliever B
August 13: Option Reliever B, Call up Hutch, Hutch Starts, Option Hutch, Call Up Reliever C
August 19: Option Reliever C, Call Up Sanchez, Sanchez Starts, Option Sanchez, Call Up Reliever A
August 25: Option Reliever A, Call Up Hutch, Hutch Starts, Option Hutch, Call Up Reliever B
August 30: Option Reliever B, Call Up Sanchez, Sanchez Starts, Option Sanchez, Call Up Reliever C
September 1: Roster Expand and problem solved.

Now this idea seems quite outlandish, but I was thinking if we could swap them back and forth Sanchez is only pitching half the innings, and he can start every 11/12 days until the playoffs where he should have some left maybe.

The problem I thought would exist would be the you have to be down for 10 days, the last of which you'd sometimes be needed for the next MLB start. I knew off days would sometimes help with that but when I checked the schedule I realized if you schedule the starts in this manner you could get all the way to September without an issue.

Then there's the added benefit of having 80% of your games with an extra pen pitcher. I labelled the relievers A, B, and C because certain guys wouldn't be able to come back up at times due to the 10 day rule, but you need not adhere to such a strict schedule with the relievers as long as the 10 day rule is fine with whoever comes up.

1 major issue this would probably create to probably prevent this is the treatment of Sanchez as a person. He's only with the MLB team 1 day every 11 days, then he's down in Buffalo for 10 days not starting. Not being around Stroman. I'm sure that wouldn't sit well with either of them.

So yeah just an idea that popped into my head so I figured I'd post it.

Turf toe can linger for awhile - with the rest of the offense starting to hit, I'd rather just rest Bautista up until it's 100%
