Sarnia Sting 2023-24 Season Thread (Part One)

Well that's annoying. Honestly one of their best periods of the last 1.5 months. Completely dominated play for 12-13 minutes. Gave up 3 scoring chance & they score on all 3. Rookie mistake by Hurt costs them G1 & not a great goal for Surzycia on G2. G3 nice play. Had a handful of great looks themselves but couldn't get that 2nd goal & that looks pretty huge now.

Crazy how fast it can go south. Surzycia has fallen apart as well. Outside 2or3 games he's been rather dreadful his last 10-12 starts.
 
Woof. They can't buy a save. Been way sloppier this period but this shouldn't be 5-1. Phillips coming in again this time a much more lethal opponent & for 30 minutes. GL kid.

Give Maillet a call & start him tomorrow. Also I was wrong on Doherty. Just nothing to his game. Sucks cause he has the speed. Sign Denney & have him take his spot. See what he looks like the rest of the way. Then post TDL sign Beamish & bring him up up replace whoever they deal.

If Phillips does well here I could see him possibly starting tomorrow.

Once Chartier and Maillet are healthy I'm all for cutting or trading Surzycia and having Maillet and Chartier play the last half of the season. I think it's clear now Surzycia is not a starter he is way to inconsistent.
 
Have a night Wainwright. 1G/2A, 9 shots. Definitely in convo for his best OHL game. Absolutely flying.

Gotta give the boys credit..three straight games they battle back from big deficits. Not quitting on themselves.

No way around it tonight. There goaltending cost them the game. Dominated 70-75% of that game. 3 goals on there first 3 chances.

Best game they've played in weeks if not a month. Showed a ton of resilience w/o Sikic, Filak, Brown & Letang gone. George as advertised is a stud in net.

Barr was awesome again. 1A, +2. He is playing fantastic hockey right now. Fischer been MUCH better the last 3 games. Was good tonight adds 2A & also goes +2. Felt Schnieder's energy & physicality really dragged them back into the fight. Don't mind him at all.

Gotta be in contention for Wainwright's best game..1G/2A & 9 shots. He was absurd. Best skater on the ice by far.

I just don't think u can go back 2 Surzycia tomorrow. Whether that be Phillips or Maillet starting instead.

If Maillet can't go tomorrow I'm starting Phillips. Has come in as relief 2 games in a row now and hasn't allowed a goal. I'm starting to question Surzycia as a starter either than the game against LDN I can't remember his last good performance. I'm really starting to just wanna go with Chartier and Maillet the rest of the season. Let them battle for the starting roll next year.
 
I wouldn't let surzycia go as we have no idea what Maillet looks like at the OHL level, but once he gets a game or two up if he performs well I don't see why we wouldn't keep him up to play more games.

Sure sounds like they'll give Chartier a good amount of games once he returns. So might just have a trio if Maillet is legit. But that remains to be seen.

Gotta hope one of the 17 yr olds shows out. Cause if neither look legit or starting level we will have a bit of an issue & definitely need to draft one somewhat high.
 
Same lines as last night. Surzycia starts again totally disagree with that. He doesn't deserve to start see if he picks his socks up today.
 
Another game where they've probably been the better team but trail by multiple goals. Not saying they've played that well either but very frustrating.

See if they have a 3rd pd comeback in them again.

Snoozer of a game. Looked a bit tired.
Chartier back next week. Tough one vs SAG Friday. Flint Saturday who will be without Hayes.

Trade rumors should start after that. See how it all plays out.

Kinda hope that maybe we see Maillet next weekend now that his suspension is over. And if Chartier is back maybe they sit Surzycia. Not that I'm blaming Surzycia for every goal but he has allowed 19 goals in his last 4 starts. And hasn't won a game since we beat the Pete's.
 
Puts Denney at 24G in 29 GP. Pretty crazy. Has widened the gap for most goals by 5 now. 6th in overall points.

Three of the top four point getters are are '03s/'04s. So Beamish & Denney are 2nd & 3rd in points among '06s & 0'7s. Only guy ahead of them is an '06 but played in the GOJHL last yr while Beamish, Denney are rookies.

Bridgewater up to 5G/12A in 22 games. Goals in 4 of his last 5 games. 12 points last 13 games.

Soares scored today. Has 13G/12A in 34 games.

Been awhile since we had this many prospects looking pretty promising. Least we got that 😂

It's gonna be a long second half to this season.... Sarnia isn't getting the goaltending it got earlier in the year and the offence is atrocious. Sarnia games this year are so boring. Almost 4 k at the game today and it was an absolute snoozer.

Said it Wednesday to a buddy y couldn't they have a crazy comeback to win 7-6 with a packed building lol.

Imagine how bad the O will look with Vilmanis & hopefully one of LeBlanc, Doucette, Filak traded haha.

Exactly why I hope to see Maillet, Denney, Beamish brought up. Least gives us a glimpse of them & maybe bring some sort of excitement.

Losing Vilmanis will be bad... hes basically the only offensive guy with skill. Filak and the rest of the guys can go right now for all I care.

A good but not great 19 yr old Dman went for a 2nd & two 3rds today.. love LeBlanc but if that's the type of return that they can get....
