Sarnia Sting 2022-23 Season Thread (Part 2)

ya disagree completely tbh. We definitely did not get fair value for him. We threw away a 2nd and 3rd for him only to trade him for essentially a 4th round pick...the math doesn't add up in our favour. Hard to tell if a 2nd in 2023 is going to be any better than a 2nd in 2026.

I more mean teams value picks in the now (2023, 2024) more than ones in 3-4 years because theyll get those back by those drafts. But it was always gonna be a loss for us if we traded him. We overpaid quite badly at the time & he actually turned into an OK dman which at least kept his value decent.

I was looking forward to seeing this d core all together because of their size, but Hoover has been a rock solid 3rd pair guy. Definitely someone u want in the lineup come playoffs. Romeo has become a solid defender but he can have some horrific turnovers. Had 2 brutal one's yesterday that could've resulted in goals. Not something u want playing 20+ come a game 6 or 7.

I like getting picks in the 2023 cupboard. Least now the scouts have an actual job to do haha. But we'll see if we keep them. Need a 3rd liner. Not much out there but hopefully Seca can find one.

I stopped my season tickets long ago lol. My dad and I use to go way back when Ivan novoseltsev was going end to end on a nightly. The barn was packed almost every night, was a fun night out. Now, not so much

Only returnees will be Fischer, Hoover, MacDonald, Campbell.

Scott Wheeler of The Athletic is reporting Windsor is getting close to a deal for Wright. Would have to think Cristoforo, Greentree, or Miedema is going the other way

Could see Windsor really go all in and trade Cristoforo and Miedema for Wright and someone else. They could add a solid shut down D even.

From the Windsor board sounds like it might be Miedema and Cristoforo in the trade which IMO wouldn't be worth unless you win the OHL championship. Those are two very good young players

I've given up with the OHL site. It could 100% mean something or it might just be a typo or they forgot somebody. Though I do hope it's right & we are after a F. Wish we would've tried to get Bowman back from GUE in that Romeo trade & said screw the picks. Perfect 3RW. There is almost nothing left which makes it hard.

Just looking at the sting stats & Filak deserves some love. 24 points in 32 games (52 point pace) & a team leading +10. Considering he hasn't spent a ton of time in the T6 that's great work. Does a lot of little stuff too on the PK, along the boards etc. Do wish he'd be slightly more disciplined as it feels like almost all his penalties are unnecessary/selfish ones opposed to Hooks/trips but he's been one of our better more consistent players. His good play has almost given us two 2Cs with him & Lantz.

Props to Sikic too who in the last 9 games has 2G/9A for 11 points. We've all been frustrated with him at times but he's been put in some tough spots. I mean christ he was a top-4 Dman on this team for a little bit!! If what we've seen recently is a sign of things to come (not expecting PPG pace just closer to it) he could become a real x-factor for this team. Love his play away from the puck & on the PK

I also feel Wainwright has been pretty solid. No he hasn't been putting up the goals like I had hoped, but he's on a 25-30 point pace primarily playing 4th line with Way & Doucette as a 17 year old. 3rd best +/- among our forwards while also being really solid on draws.

Yah it's tough. Not many options left. Not many assets left. Hopefully somebody comes calling last minute with a player for semi cheap
