This talk about a wide open west doesn't apply to Sarnia. Playoffs could start tomorrow and Sarnia would have no chance winning a 1st round match up. Why? goaltending. Aidian Hughes is a modern day version of Parker VanBuskirk...sure he's a nice guy but he's not good at goalie. Sting will continue to lose games with him in net....plain and simple.

Anyone hear anything on Tyler Weiss? In my opinion he made a massive mistake not coming to play in the O. Just read he transferred schools, does he have to sit out? He got drafted in the 4th round, if he had played with the Sting last year, possibly with Kyrou his stock would have been much higher. Has he even played an NCAA game yet? He could have 2 full years of OHL experience. It just makes no sense to me.
Weiss played in UNO's exhibition game vs Manitoba on 10/7. He had 1G and 1A and was 3rd star of the game. He has not played in any of UNO's 10 regular season games so far. Could not find any info on whether he was injured or a healthy scratch.

Why do we even care about this guy? He will likely never show up. As well, for the same reason that Brady Hinz was moved, a guy listed at 150 lbs or less will get steamrolled in this league, as well as likely playing soft one-way hockey.
Write it off as a bad decision at that draft and move on. If for some reason he shows up, consider it an Eliot type of free bonus.

Yes, I think in the end the Sting will end up selling. If they do decide to sell it will be another disappointing season for the sting. If I am Hatcher I am starting to worry about the attendance numbers, they are pitiful and will remain to fall for the remainder of the season. I don't plan on attending anymore games, ill watch on tv but I'm not spending money. I hope Hatcher has learned a few hard lessons in his first years as owner. A shame the sting will be forced to sell when the league is more wide open. Does anyone share the same feeling that if the Sting dont start winning next year the franchise may move on from Sarnia?

Dave, What did you expect going into this season? To me it seemed obvious after trying to go for it last year, then next 2 seasons will be used to build for the 20/21 season. Typical junior hockey cycle. This team has an excellent base for that 20/21 season. Expect in the next month or two a few players will be moved for 01's or draft picks. I don't think we have anyone that will return a 02 player. Personally, I hope we can start the sell off sooner than later so that we can drop in the standings because whoever we pick up in the 1st rd of the 2019 draft will be a big part of out 20/21 team.

As for the team moving, this team wont move anytime soon. Where would they move it to anyways? Chatham? They don't have an arena for OHL. MI? Again, most likely any destination would need a new complex built. And probably would have worst support.

This team will stay in Sarnia, and most of the fans will still complain year after year because that what fans do in Sarnia.

Hard to believe Hughes was drafted in the second round, second goalie behind DiPietro in 2015 ... So no first round pick from 2015 on the roster ..... no first, second, third or fourth round pick from 2016 on the roster. Good to see Ottawa is 17-3 and using the players and picks wisely. Lets not Forget we still owe Ottawa a Second and Third round pick this year .... a Third in 2020, a conditional 2nd in 2021 and 2022. LMFAO. But Hatcher gave us a LED screen, all is forgiven.

I guess my expectations were too big for this team, as usual. IMO Sarnia is not following the Jr. Hockey cycle.... Tank, spend, tank, spend, tank, spend is not the Regular, for Sarnia yes, other teams no.... When you spend teams are usually good for more than half a year.

The conditions for the 2nd's in 21 and 22 were not met I believe. If he had returned the following season, we would owe those picks.

Actually that is the normal cycle. For most teams, (excluding London) they will build for a specific season. They may get lucky and have a strong team a year early, or have a strong team the following year, but that is not the norm. The teams that tried to make a run last season

18/19 17/18 16/17 15/16
Hamilton 8th 1st 5th 9th
Soo 1st 1st 3rd 7th
Barrie 9th 2nd 10th 2nd
Kingston 10th 3rd 4th 1st
Kitchener 7th 3rd 6th 4th
Sarnia 8th 2nd 8th 3rd

As you can see, 5 of the 6 teams that went for it last season are not having good years this season. And 3 of the 6 finished in the top half of their conference the year prior.

As for my expectations for the Sting this year, I thought they would have been a little higher in the standings than they are, but when most of your older guys aren't preforming like they should, it makes sense why they are where they are.

I do partially agree with you, theres going to be ups and downs. However, Hamilton won, Soo lost in the finals and are still good, Kitchener was in the Semi Finals, The difference is Sarnia gave up the most and got the least out of it and are now in horrible shape. One year good, one or two years bad isn't the normal cycle, theres a build up of a few years of being good. and getting better.... then buying to become a true contender.

Ya they have been good, bad, good, bad so far... but the second year they should have been a solid team nobody expected konecny, cychrun, and zacha to all move on... in my opinion all 3 should have been sent back.

I am not sure how NHL teams decide on sending guys back. I also don't know how London consistently gets their NHL guys back, if they make agreements with NHL teams or something like that, but, Sarnia needs to start doing something similar.

You are correct. Sarnia has had some really bad luck when they have had or should have good teams. Gally missing all but 2 regular seasons games was another year Sting got hit with bad luck.

Since this forum is normally negative, What positives has everyone seen with this years team?

For me it has been Reesor. He has been a beast on the blueline this year. +9 rating, best on the team by a landslide. Very rarely does he make a mistake and very rarely is he out of position. Also, loved him paired with Kammerererererererer on Saturday. Probably Kammerer's best game. He had a tonne of chances offensively because he knew Reesor would be in position covering him. Also, when he is paired with Grima, those are Grima's best games. I think he will be one of the biggest risers for prospects for the 2019 NHL Draft.

For me, I am only negative because I was so positive last year and ended poorly. This year its Perreault and Eliot. Perreault has shown some pretty impressive skill and ability to score. Looks like a natural goal scorer, doesn't panic with the puck, always in the right place it seems. I think he will be a point per game player this year and I can see him challenging 100 pts in year 2. Eliot has improved a ton... 17 pts in 18 games thats impressive especially when he had 3 pts in 16 games last year. Seems more poised and confident.

Agree with Perreault. I don't know what I was expecting of him this season, being a 1st rd pick he should be good, but he doesn't look out of place at all on this team. Going to be fun watching him develop.

Also not sure, but it would really be nice if we could get stars back

Perrault is going to be lights out in this league, rees was impressive until his injury (I hope he stays healthy the rest of his junior career), and Reesor is really good! He will definitely move up the draft rankings

You guys want an upgrade in goal Ince of Niagara wants to be a number one.
It’s a really tough call as to whether the sting should upgrade to a better 1999 goalie. Assuming he’d be around for an OA year, you’d get a year and a half out of him. Now, WITH a goalie this team could finish 5th or 6th in the conference and maybe steal a round in the playoffs. But realistically, is that where the team wants to go? Unlikely to get past 2nd round at best.
Or do they just part ways with 2 or 3 or 4 of the current 99’s and 98’s for draft picks and/or 2001’s or 2002’s?
Last year there were some decent youngsters moved to rebuilding teams (example McMichael to London; Douglas to Windsor) in exchange for good final-year players. I’d like to see the team take that route.
I still think the sting need to just tank it with either Hughes or a really “cheap” alternative, and get the best possible draft position. Objective for the remainder of the season is to turn Kammerer, Reesor, Marko & Hogue into viable defenders.

For me, Perreault, of course, has done everything I could expect from a first rounder, and more.
Rees, when healthy, was a stud. When he returns, the team will become much better.
Hugo has stopped trying to be fancy and has been a much improved scorer. Keep shooting, big guy.
Hill is very good on faceoffs. We’re gonna need that next year & beyond.
Martin is a nice free agent pickup. Need to find him the right linemates.
Even the much-maligned Ruzicka is absolutely snake-bitten when it comes to scoring but he’s changed his game and has become a much better passer and has stopped trying to stickhandle out of the corner into the slot. Much less me-me lately.
The vast majority of the team is doing exactly what I would have expected, offensively, but the backcheck and shot blocking is sometimes absent.
Lack of key saves at key times is the killer.

Wanting to be a #1 and having the ability to be a #1 are two different things. If you base your assessment on last year's numbers, keep in mind Niagara was a pretty good team. This year they started strong and have struggled due to injuries and magically the numbers change. Don't pick your goalies by numbers alone or you may be disappointed in the results.
Do I think Incze is better than Hughes - yes - but no one knows how much better.

You can still trade Hughes and someone for Incze and use him for this year and next, he will likely be a good goalie next season, and also part with OA’s and 99’s at the deadline. Knights brought in raaymakers last season and they got rid of 98’s and OA’s at the deadline... Hughes was on the 2nd best team regular season team in the league and he had worse GAA and save pct. than Incze... Incze is on a better of the two teams this year but his numbers are still better than Hughes... I’d have to say he’d be a more reliable tender.

If Sarnia can find a way to upgrade from Hughes without spending a lot then I'm for it. I originally thought let's just ride out the season and give Langevin the majority of the starts but I think it's important for this team's morality and the deployment of the young players to have a better chance at winning games then they do with Hughes. You do not want to create a losing atmosphere already. Sarnia could have 5 or so more wins then they do now if they had someone in replace of Hughes and the games he's allowed 5+ goals. The last thing we want is our guys heading into each game expecting to lose because Hughes is getting the start. Can't have that mentality.
