So what do the d pairs look like now?

Rielly-Brodie
McCabe-Liljegren
Gustafsson-Holl

Holl and Liljegren will probably be switched though.

Sandin was inconsistent, but when he's was on, he could be really solid. He's also 22 and cost-controlled for another season after this.

I do agree there is a logjam at the moment, but Gio is 39. He could like Chelios and be here for the next five years or he could be like Spezza and have his play fall off the cliff next year.

The pick is BOS's 1st, which is going to be at best the 27th overall, plus a 30yo pending UFA that we probably can't afford to re-sign.

Dubas had a good trade deadline thus far, but this deal is plainly bad in my opinion.

1st, Knies, Liljegren, Minten, any other 1sts we have lying around and Niemela for Chychrun.

This level of mortgaging the future takes me back to the days of Boyle for a 2nd.

I'd rather keep Kerfoot and the 1st imo and I've been wanting Kerfoot gone for a long time now.
Yeah I mean Garland for 4 years at 2.4 would be pretty unreal. Doubt Vancouver is willing to retain for that much term anyways and I actually really want to see what our scouts can do with this 1st as well.

Sandin isn't the type of D man that wins playoff series. McCabe is, and he just replaced Sandin.

Would've rather had Jensen instead of Gus, but ah well.

Now go get Gibson or Demko

I'll say this at least Sandin was still a future based asset

On ice he was overrated by some people here and he was a concern

While a 1st isn't ideal it's not the worse case either

Big fraser

And he was underrated by others.

If they retain the pick they aren't going all in.

Maybe cold feet?

Our D this year went from

Rielly - Liljegren
McCabe - Brodie
Gio - Holl

to

Rielly - Liljegren
McCabe - Brodie
Gio - Holl

and our D next year went from

Rielly - Liljegren
McCabe - Brodie
Gio - Sandin

to

Rielly - Liljegren
McCabe - Brodie
Gio - Timmins

I think it was the right thing to do.

Hope they keep the pick unless it's someone with term coming back.

I don’t get it, are you telling me we traded away Dubas’s first draft pick.. a guy from the Soo??? But Dubas tries too hard to keep his guys and isn’t cutthroat enough, this doesn’t make any sense. Has he already been replaced behind the scenes?
I don’t get it. Dubas is an “elite” drafting GM and the only NHL player he drafted was just traded and now the conscious is that Sandin isn’t very good. Weird.

This is probably a trade that was done for Sandin. He was probably knocked down to 7th or 8th. Won't play in the playoffs.

This way he gets to play more and we get a 1st rd pick

I don't know how the Leafs are outbidding anyone for Chychrun, a super late 1st shouldn't change that.

If Dubas trades for a legit goalie now I'll be impressed
That would be pretty ballsy. But who is available? Murray would have to be headed back the other way.
