This is my man right here. I told you guys I like grit when it can play hockey.

He looks hungry too. I think he may be a guy that really enjoys New York like Brassard or Zuccarello.

Between the assist and the emphatic point, you could see how bad he wanted to get Laf that tally.

I wonder if he can have a Brassard like career here. A guy that didn't reach his potential before coming here and then does. Maybe not quite the point totals of Brassard but same idea.

He has suprised me for sure. I was underwhelmed by the trade, but now seeing Blais these few games he seems like a guy that wont hurt anywhere he slides up and down the lineup. His hitting is masterful, he hits bullseye every time and his hands in close are smooth as ever, the toe drag pass last night was beautiful.
He actually skates through attacking opponents rather than slowing down, reaching with the stick. I've always wondered why these guys dont do that more often. I see our guy skate up to an opponent, slow down and start flailing their stick, reaching for the puck. Just skate right into the guy. he may get a pass off but he'll also be right out of the play. I don't say it's *always* the right play. Like, don't do it defending a two-on-one. But on the forecheck, it's a great play and Blais is one of the few guys I've ever seen do it kind of regularly. I hope the rest of the team takes notice.

edit: I'm not advocating "crushing" hits...just skate through the guy. Don't slow down because they slow down.

Blues thread is hilarious. A Rangers fan came in asking about Buch and said that Blais has played well and the trade might have been win/win. No they won't have any of that it got a defensive response of how Buch is a much better offensive player and the Blues already have a bunch of players like Blais in the system. The trade HAD to be a highway robbery or they won't be happy. Also, the Rangers don't have a bunch of players like Blais in the system or in the NHL, hence "win/win".

I still can’t say I’m a fan of the trade, but there’s something about him that’s exciting to watch in a way that Buch never was. He’ll never come close to putting up the same production, but he does play a very skilled power forward type game that adds a fun element to the team that a bum like Brendan Lemieux was expected to bring and never came close.
blais has completed more successful stickhandles in 4 games as a ranger than lemieux did in 100. blais is wayyyy more skilled than lemieux.

Blais explained himself quite well in the post game interview.
He's always been an offensive player.
He had to change his game up a bit for the nhl but the talent doesn't just leave
The rangers r allowing him to use his offensive talents more the the Blues ever did.
I think he has top 6 potential

eh it’s a professional sports board. Most of us are fans because we love the sport and have a competitive fire.

15-15-30 on the third line and second PP unit would be my projected upside here.

Pouliot esque production with different intangible factors

This is it right here. For anyone who remembers Bates Battaglia or Mike LeClerc.

Basically more offense than Brandon Prust, but not in the Adam Graves or John LeClair category.

Nash was never physical here. He was soft as they come.

Nash was Jagr physical in that he wasn't a hitter but he'd protect the puck with his body and drive to the net for a handful of games with the Rangers until Lucic drove his head into the boards for a concussion in 2013 and then later that fall Brad Stuart also concussed him.

He lost weight and become quicker and a much more finesse player in 2014-15 when he scored 40+.

Until...he missed that game in Feb. '15 with 'neck spasms' (code name for likely concussion) and his game was never the same again (coming down from the absolute fire of a season where he still finished third in league goal scoring).

And man was he looking great to start that 13-14 season before that POS Brad Stuart concussion...

Yup, Zac Bogosian cross checked him with a stick in 2015. POS.

Unless we trade for some more depth and we're all healthy that would be a waste of Blais's talent. I think he's a good third liner at worst.
As Blais would say, "For sure!" He has shown great ability and could certainly play higher up in the lineup, as he's doing right now.

It's a long season which also has the Olympics. Having a 4th line that could chip in goals in addition to being a terror on the boards would give us an added weapon (Blais-Barron-Reaves). It would also keep guys fresh down the stretch if we could feel confident giving the 4th line more minutes.

In the meantime, I'm enjoying the chemistry of the Laf-Chytil-Blais line.

He's a player that has all the parts of a hockey player I truly love. Can skate, hit, got decent hands, and most importantly - hustles.

I was sad to see Buch go but we all knew it was going to happen.

Reading the descriptions of Blais I was initially very curious to see him play for us. He raised above my expectation.

I miss American-Buch but Blais has been great so far. Exactly the type of player this team needs. Hopefully he can inspire Kreider.
