Blais seems to be getting better each game, we have to remember that he missed what amounts to a full season due to major knee surgery, and it normally takes players another full season after that to return to their old form. I like what he is bringing on a nightly basis, he shows a little more each game. The 4th line is much better with Blais, Goodrow and Gauthier. They have size speed and get in on the forecheck, and are able to cycle things that Reaves & Carpenter seem to have a problem with due to their lack of speed.

Last years pre injury Blais looked like Jagr compared to this iteration. He looked a lot more like a middle 6 winger last year, then the 4th liner he appears to be now. Hopefully he can gradually improve his game/health. If Blais stays on the ice last year then he probably gets an extended look with Strome/Panarin in Hunts place. Too bad for him. If he’d have meshed on that line he would be in line for a much bigger contract in free agency.

I do like the Blais-Goodrow-Gauthier 4th line. If Blais only major contribution to the team this year is keeping Reaves and Carpenter in the press box then I’ll take it.

Obviously the trade was horrendous value, but I’m holding out hope Blais can be a useful player this year.

I like Blais a lot. I’d like Gauthier up with Kreider and Mika or Chytil. But Blais-Goodrow-Vesey/Reaves/Gauthier is a terrific fourth line.
Nothing against Carpenter but he doesn’t really do anything exceptionally well. I’d send him down to Hartford or let him go to a team that would give him regular ice time.

Agreed on Carpenter. If he gets plucked off waivers it’s really no loss. I struggle to find anything particularly useful he does outside being a warm body. I have to think there are a few guys down in Hartford who could fill his role in a pinch. I don’t get the sense in not accruing the cap space and you know they aren’t moving Reaves.

He is basically Rooney and I also wanted no part of Rooney. Nothing against him. I just didn’t see him as having any special skill. Just a seat filler. Fine as a spare but not a mainstay.

I actually thought Rooney was better, especially in his first 1.5 years here. Not that I’m pining for the days of Kevin Rooney, but I felt he had some uses. Carpenter is just kinda there. He doesn’t do anything particularly well.

Yea Carpenter is eventually waived

Blais is going to be useful I’m just not expecting a ton of points just alot of hits

at this state of his career Carpenter is an extra forward

Most professional athletes need two full years to recover from an ACL tear (if they ever do). Blais is a UFA after this season. If we can get him on a cheap deal for 3ish years, I'd do it. He's been ineffective this season, but if he remains healthy, I'd be willing to roll the dice on future improvement, if the cap hit is low enough ($1.25Mx3 sounds about right).

I think Blais can be a difference-maker and bottom-6 PITA, but we'll need to take on some risk (in the form of a multi-year extension) if we want to reap that reward.

When do the Rangers and Gallant realize that he’s not going to return to form?

The Rangers would be nuts to extend him, he hasn’t scored a single regular season goal as a Ranger. I’m not even sure if he’s had more than 5 quality scoring chances this season

So he’s a lame duck anyway. He’s not providing anything. Put Brodz in his spot.

This guy absolutely sucks, and I feel like puking every time I see him on the ice.

Stupid elbowing penalty, he stopped skating after negating an icing which meant he got to the puck late which allowed the D to take away a centering pass to someone cutting toward the net, and Blais immediately gave the puck away. It's shit like this every game he plays.

I'll say it again, I'd rather see Hajek at forward than this scrub. No reason Blais should play over any other forward on the roster at this point.

He's the only forward that throws any kind of meaningful hit, i know he got a penalty tonight but he punishes people and i kinda like it, he's on the 4th line, they played well. Im ok with him in the lineup. Its not like he's keeping someone thats a difference maker out of the lineup

Was hoping he would become a Matthew Barnaby, Todd Harvey, or Brandon Prust type player. By the looks of it, he is another Steve McKenna, Nick Kypreos, or Shayne Churla minus the fighting pedigree.

He's been one of the most disappointing Rangers that I've seen in awhile. Should definitely be jettisoned at the end of the year.
I’m willing to give him one more season. I think we have to remember his knee was shredded. It was a truly dastardly, cynical act. He deserves a mulligan for this season.

I’d absolutely want him with Hartford this year, but that’s not his problem.

He's f***ing Greg McKegg all over again.

Except we didn't trade a rising star for McKegg.
