Regardless of whether it was intentional or not, I think this will be a sign of Blais future on the Rangers (injured and unable to play)

False equivalence. Kakko hasn’t kneed 4 goalies in the head the past month.

Exactly, and been fined twice in a months time.
He's paid by MSG, I'm not.

Go listen to Martin Biron's take on it.

And remember this, if the shoe was on the other foot, we would all be screaming about how Kakko took Blackwood's head off.

It's a hockey play.

So then Slewban and his four times kicking out another players skate in 1 months time, causing multiple injuries, and getting fined twice by the league gives you no concern that this could have been intentional?

I heard McKegg offered his leg to Blais, but he turned it down because it was the size of an arm and instead asked for his arm, which was the size of a leg.

I saw a Canuck fan asking an arm and a leg for some of their choice players and I thought hmmm.... the Rangers have just the right guy for you.

If Subban gets fined for the Blais incident I'll concede the point.

The "slewfeet" Slubban was fined for were most likely unintentional hockey plays too. The guy is just too slow now so he sticks his leg out to trap and stop players and he catches them awkwardly. That is reckless play. It's not a hockey play anymore, it's dangerous. There are rules that referees enforce to stop dangerous plays. If we take Slubb-footing as a new standard there will be a LOT of injured players the upcoming months as people get Slubb-footed all over the league. It's a variation of kneeing, leg-check and/or tripping, or 3 in 1, since slubb-footing is not yet an official penalty.

Unpopular opinion:
This was incidental contact that could have happened to anyone. Both guys went hard to the boards, skates tapped, and I think when that happened Blais tried to reposition himself and just took a bad step. Subban is guilty of many dirty plays, this isn't one of them.

Popular opinion:
Kakko also did nothing wrong to Blackwood. That type of play is fairly common and is generally called the way it was last night.

This would all sound logical except he did stick his right leg out that caused Blais to trip and get injured similar to what he has done 3 other times in a month. Thats 4 times in a month, causing multiple injuries, and getting fined twice. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me, and I don't what to say about fooling me 4 times. I guess the NHL has to decide.

Did they provide an update on Blais?

I’m almost certainly overthinking it, but if he had a torn ACL and was going to be out for months I feel like they would have just came out and announced it.

It’s been 24 hours and they’re not on the road. Plenty of time to evaluate the injury I’d think.

Nothing has been reported yet.

Don't they usually wait 24 hours for the swelling on and around the knee to subside on ACL/MCL injuries before they do the MRIs/ scans Xrays etc?

months? Torn ACL and he’s gone until next Nov or later.

It's crazy how different NFL and NHL handle reporting injuries. In the NFL we know the extent of a player's injury before the end of a game or by post game interview and the follow up scans are typically confirmation.

In the NHL we only find out specifics if it's season ending or very long term. Otherwise we get the generic UBI or LBI "day-to-day"

They wouldn't fine him again on a play that caused injury after just fining him a week ago. It would scream soft on player safety. It's a better optic for them to just ignore it unless they are going to actually suspend him

The fact nothing has been released on the injury yet means one of two things: either it's a really bad injury requiring further tests to fully know the scope of the injury and recovery before they notify the media, or it wasn't that bad and they are holding out until the league says they will or won't suspend subban so the incident isn't downplayed bc it's only a minor injury.

Based on the screaming you could here on the broadcast I'm inclined to think it's the first scenario and there is a serious injury. Blais is a tough kid and he was in severe pain. We should know tomorrow.

Comparing the NFL to the NHL is like comparing IBM’s business operations to Sabrett’s :)

While this is VERYtrue it has much more to do with the fact that we have a game tonight and in the NFL the player is done for a week anyway.

It’s BS gamesmanship but it’s just the way the NHL is. “Lower Body” “Upper body” etc
Players play through injuries at times… it’s intentionally vague & especially in this instance, unnecessary.
