I have to watch the games via Center Ice, and the nights when I get the other teams feed are simply excruciating at times.

Boston, Ottawa, Tampa, NJ, and Carolina are TERRIBLE.

I reserve a special hatred for Rick JEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEANERETTEEEEE

Tell me you really thought that I didn't know that Marv and Kenny are two different people.

You never know on here, someone in another thread asked who Nick Kypreos was and if he's a credible source on Staal :shakehead

I haven't been posting on here in awhile, give me some time to figure out who is who ;)

I guess you haven't listened to the idiots in Pittsburgh yet. Understandable, since NBC makes damn sure that every Rangers-Pens game is on NBC. But the homerism over there is just over the top. They praise Cindy and Shrek for flopping at every opportunity.

Having watched a lot of games in general lately, I don't think we appreciate our broadcasting crew enough. Some of the other ones are flat out horrible.

Also, can someone explain why you guys all hate the MSG 150 so much? Sure Pidto is weird, but it's not a bad way to catch up with what has happened during the game.

I got to meet Sam and Joe when they were here in Winnipeg at one of the Jets/Rangers games last year! I was at the MTS Center early in the day because I had a friend who was able to get me into the Rangers practice and as we were heading to the entrance, Sam and Joe walked out of one of the doors, I guess they had gone to the wrong entrance. We ended up waiting with them outside one of the side entrances to the arena for one of the security people to show up. Really, really nice guys, both of them made me feel like they were really happy to meet me!

I never understood the hate Gary Thorne got..I thought he was an awesome PBP man,so what if he mis pronounced some name? I thought he was electric...I loved him calling Mets games too back in the day.

Still love Gary Thorne and wish he still did games.

If I could have Sam do Rangers games and Gary do national games i'd be in heaven. But i'm stuck with Doc "Waffleboard" Emerick.

Well we can obviously see that Callahan has the puck. Should he stop calling that too?

I feel like you have an agenda versus Sam. All of your posts in this thread have either criticized him or made fun of how he looks.

I hope you can personally see Ryan Callahan has the puck as I wouldnt rely on Sam. Even last night Sam on his 30th anniversary called our beloved captain Bryan Callaban.

I dont have an agenda against Sam, I just think he is a poor announcer. Great guy but in the last 20 years has been a hack. it's just an opinion.

Yeah, I'm sure other announcers have never accidentally botched up a player's name. You seem to know a lot about this business. Maybe the Rangers should hire you. Show 'em how it's done.

And really? Making fun of his hair or his appearance? My 11 year old brother does that.

The off-set in time is a reality of technology. Every bit of processing done to a signal (for adding sub-channels in HD Radio, to processing and mixing a HD video signal) causes a delay.

This is why radio doesn't match up with TV.
This is why you cannot bring a Walkman to a game and listen to play-by-play anymore -- the calls are behind the action.

Give up all your digital HD TV/Radio for old analog and this problem goes away...

Cheers!

No, this is not 2 or 3 seconds. The time varies. It's sometimes 20-30 seconds and can go either way. With radio either ahead or behind.

Well, there are other possibilities, too... Where is the feed coming from? How far is it traveling?

I've been at bars watching football when the feed from the local OTA station is before the NFL Sunday Ticket feed.

There are many possibilities. I don't think that the broadcasters are doing it on purpose to keep you from viewing the picture from the video with the audio from the radio.... It comes off as just too much work for them to even care / bother.

Cheers!

Bryan Callaban, Steve Nash or crediting goals to players not even on the ice. Uncle Sam is like the Rangers' lovable grandpa. You're alright, Crazy grandpa Sam.

Rangers dont hire people with opinions just PR people to promote their product. Plus MSG pays peanuts. I'm retired with a pretty good pension. As far as his appearance goes it was a joke in response to someone calling me "jealous" lol.

lets just agree to disagree

What ever happened to Gary. He should at least be on the NBCSN team that Doc isn't on.

I think the only things I've seen him doing play by play recently for were soccer games on ESPN. He was great at hockey games.

Another good one was Tom Mees of ESPN.He was Mr Hockey over at ESPN in the early days.Sadly he drowned at the age of 46 in CT.

I think most of the criticism Thorne got was mostly because of his screaming on every goal call. Was it warranted prolly not, He is also infamous for calling Dale Purinton , Dale Purrrinton. Which reminds me Sam has called Kovalev, Kovalov for 20 years which also annoyed me.

Also, Sam also feels the need to remind the TV audience every time the home crowd starts making noise "and the chants of Henrik, Henrik goes up from the crowd", "or a Let's go rangers chant goes up from the crowd."

I have nice audio system for that Sam, just call the play on the ice and stop with the crack reporting about what we all can obviously hear.

When I was yoot and there was no cable in the outer boroughs I listened to Marv and Red Light on WNEW-AM 1130for home games, when the Rangers were playing bad and the crowd started booing the Marv line was and the Ranger hear it from the crowd even though I could hear the boos on the radio...the older PBP guys all started on radio and many continue to call games that way.

seems to be nit-picking to me.

I watch a lot of games on Center Ice...rarely do home team announcers criticize the home team. Sam is no different.

He was great on Espn2, and I think USA Network with Al Trautwig before that. Tragic what happened to him. RIP.

My 2nd fave behind Sam is Dan Kelly. He was the Blues PBP guy and called 16 Cup Finals and the All Star games from '77-'85. Sam did the 1986 All Star game. Again, lost him too soon to lung cancer, 53 yrs old. RIP.
