Keep playing the goalie on the win streak or not? I wonder what MSL will end up doing some big games coming up, wondering if he goes with Allen against the Sharks?
MSL is very biased towards Allen. Last year he had Allen play an incredible amount of consecutive games towards the end of the season, and Allen got worst and worst and got injured. Is it his way to tank ?

Needs to play. I love the tank, but riding Allen to oblivion is not a recipe for fun games.
It is a recipe for a tank though.

And just like that this year's Vezina winner's save% drops 10 points lol

EDIT: .924 to .908

Lol wow. Back down to earth I guess. Poor guy who has to play on this shit team, if he was on a good team he would be killing it. Not even Price could make this team look good.

Not in these boards too much lately...but any recognition for Monty lately? Kid is just doing his job. And would be a really serviceable number 2.
Right. he could be a darn good #2 for years to come. I am always surprised that MSL rarely gives him any compliment and will go back asap to Allen when he is healthy again.

"Funny" fact: Monty said recently that MSL is always talking to him in English when they are together.

So you hate him because he sucks and also hate him because he plays well.
I love him when he sucks. That's when he's staying true to character. I dislike him when he pretends to be prime Hasek because that's breaking character.

I get that he's just trying his best at his job but at the same time he's not here to win games or be the goalie of the future.

He's been good way more often than bad. I'll never get mad at someone who busts his ass off every night. I will however get mad at scrubs like Hoffman and Armia who genuinely suck, don't care, and show up once in a blue moon to win us games and cost us points. The roster is performing exactly how you'd expect.

He is not paid to win games?
He has potential to be a very good back up for the future is my take.
I am still trying to figure out the "he's not here to win games" comment.

I have a lot of respect for Monty. He was put in a very shitty spot last year that would've killed a lot of young goalie's confidence, but he battled every game since and has been our better goalie this year.

A .910 save % is very good on a team that has used 3-4 rookie D each game, especially considering he's been part of some 6 and 7 goal games where he had zero help.

It'll be interesting to see if he can gain some consistency when the team gets better to show he can be relied up for 30-35 games a year.

He could very well be a goalie of the future for us. I think he’s got potential to be a a great backup who you can trust for 30+ games. Goalies take time, 26 years old for a goalie still has room for improvement

In his 1.5 seasons of work, that has absolutely not been true.

Hughes went into the season with a Monty-Allen tandem with the expectation of getting a top draft pick based on what we saw last year. He was kept with the expectation of being a good goalie for the tank. That's why he got 1Mx2years.

Monty deserves way more credit than this maybe #2 nonsense. His consistent play, calmness and insane numbers are #1 worth anywhere in the league for the last stretch. He won many games by himself this year, confidence is of the chart... and many tankers still hate him for it. Bunch of losers imho, the kid is giving his heart out to this team so yall should appreciate his good play.

He's the kind of asset you grow in order to trade at the right time. His value as a potential tweener goalie will be perfect as we start to assemble a contending roster. I don't expect him to be any special as a starter but he can be another Jake Allen which is nothing to sneeze at

Can you think of a tweener/good back up goalie that no one viewed as a starter that brought back a good return in a trade?
