This crusade to send Monty out of Mtl is really unfair. It's just to make the team lose and it's because he is doing well. That's totally unfair for him and contrary with the sportsmanship of a pro team. That's disgusting and unprofessional. That's the opposite of rewarding a good performance.

What kind of message it sends to the players and the fans?
And you know what, folks who want that kind of practice? It doesn't work.
It's cheating, it's unfair and it create a losing mentality that stays for decades and decades. It creates a curse. It's even worse than the Toronto curse.
At least Toronto doesn't go that low. And I hate Toronto Leafs. But I keep a minimum of respect for that team because I'm not aware of that kind of tactic.

By chance Hughes is not that kind of person. I beleive he take the good decisions for the team.
Like I wrote previously, Monty is a rare good goalie in the right age and a brillant future, even if that's too soon to say. If Habs wants to loose they just have to play Dadonov, Shueneman, Drouin and Hoffman a lot. But they don't, because they try to win every game like honest and professionals they are.
I totally agree with you!!!!!

He needs more games so that he can compress more words about his games in even less time than he does now. :sarcasm:

He is top 7 in save % average league wide at .922 (only goalies with more than a certain amount of games are ranked). Allen is like .888 or something low. I know it is not a ton of games but if he keeps this up he will become the #1 soon.

Wasn’t Allen top of the charts in stats before his slump? The more Montembault plays, the more likely he is to get exposed. Our D is very weak.

Allen isn't in a slump. His stats were boosted by 4 games, 3 of which happened in his first 5 of the season: Wings (.974 and .954), Wilds (.933) and Coyotes (.926). Beside those, he's been 0.906 and under per game all season long.

Monty only has two games under .917 since the season started.

Montembault has only played seven games. If they start giving him more starts consecutively, it’s only a matter of time before the dam breaks.

Nowhere land
Monty deserves to play at least as many games as Allen if not more.
Or it depends of his developpment, the non-written law of the more experience goalie and if the team wants to tank more. That's 3 reasons combined, maybe bad reasons but bad management happen, like freezing white stuff falling from the sky. ;)

The kids getting better. Give him more net time. Allen looks like he needs a vacation.
Allen have a baby who doesn't sleep his nights.

Yup, he is now top 6 with .924, and if it wasn’t for Gally’s totally useless clearing fail, it would probably be higher.

Anyway, not getting too excited, but hoping the best for him. Would be great if he were to develop into a top 15 goalie in the league. A long shot, I know. Lol. Looking forward to the next 20-30 games to see where he is at.

Monty is still developing and has made huge strides this season. He played with an injured wrist most of the season behind arguably the worst Habs team ever assembled.
I am not sure what his upside is but I do know that he has looked great this season and I hope he continues on this path.
Allen cannot play too many games in a row and that has been shown pretty much his entire career.

Allen can't keep allowing garbage goals every game.
His play early on against Buffalo led to that embarrassing beat down.

Tank commander no more , he has ascended and we must find a new title for the young lord

What is he like 25 or 26?

There have been some other late bloomers like Binnington around that age that just come out of nowhere.

I think markstrom didn't get things together until even later.

But for now, the Habs don't need to worry about any of that and just take it day by day. Just give him more starts (which they should have been doing regardless of his form) and see how things unfold.

Keep playing the goalie on the win streak or not? I wonder what MSL will end up doing some big games coming up, wondering if he goes with Allen against the Sharks?

Nah that's what we have been doing for 30 years. Playing hot streak players in a musical chair game. Never work.

There's 2 scenario here :

1. You don't see Montembeault as a still young enough player with the potential to be a number 1. You think he'll be back on earth next season à la Max Domi. In which case since we are not aiming for a cup we should trade him to not inflate this team record for no reason.

2. You see Montembeault as a still young enough player to develop as a number 1 and consider him the best young goalie we have and the future number 1. Then you want to take it easy and increase his starts slowly. You don't want to anoint him number 1 just because he is on a hot streak.

MSL should alternate. Allen can't play more than 40 games. And you don't want to put too much pressure on Montembeault give him time to grow as a number 1 until next season. Between 35 and 40 games this season. Between 45 and 50 next season. Development.

How about a happy medium? Figure you are going around 50-50, but it does not have to be a perfect alternation. Occasionally a hot goalie can play two or three in a row, but not six.

Well obviously it's not going to be a perfect 50-50 M-A-M-A-M-A-M ...

But what i man is the other goalie should not be put in a position where he doesn't play because the other is on a hot streak. Allen should play next game imo. Then if Allen is bad again then come back with Monty for 2 games and then Allen again.
