One thing that gets overlooked a lot is that someone has to take shorthanded draws. Seems to me any 3C that is an option will have to kill penalties.

Kessel would go to AZ with Tocc and the available golf in the area.... not sure about their hot dogs though

Kessel is probably not changing his 8 team list formed up of challengers, mostly in the North-East(ish) area of the NHL, to include Arizona just because of Tocchet.

really though, don't trade Kessel. The guy has the most goals and is one point behind Sid and Geno for most points over the two Cup runs. And he adds flexibility of having a legit scoring 3rd line or being a great top 6 winger. Don't trade that guy.

Especially when he only counts for 6.8m against the cap.

I'm starting to warm up to the idea of just grabbing Jussi, having insane forward depth, and letting the season play out. Then if you need another center at the deadline, so be it. Better than giving up Maatta and Sheary.

You'd basically have the same forward depth as last year minus Kunitz and Cullen(maybe) and add Jussi, Guentzel for the full year, ZAR, Sprong, and a deadline acquisition. Seriously crazy forward depth.

Kessel has a NTC that allows him to block all but 8 teams. He's not going to Arizona. Last time he was asked to waive, it was only the high end clubs (performance/prestige wise) that were on his approved list. Any discussion of him going to ARI is beyond ridiculous.

JR said he doesn't need a 3C to kill penalties. Not really sure I agree with him, but that's what he said.

I don't think JR should go into the season without a 3C. Jussi at 3C, if he's even a solid center to begin with (I thought he was mainly a winger), and Rowney at 4C is not a combo I'm comfortable with.

I think waiting until the deadline is a mistake. Leaves less time for guys to gel and acclimate to the team, prices will be higher, and who knows what players will even be available? Add to that other teams in the mix for said players. Doesn't make a lot of sense.

I fear a Duchene trade......fear

If I'm going to agree with you on anything, it's this. I don't want us to deal with that madman Sakic. They most likely want Maatta involved in the deal and we are in no position to trade him IMO. I'm really hoping that the reports of JR thinking the price was too high from DK's website last week were true.

An insider on the Edmonton board (apparently he's very accurate)left a cryptic clue for who they were going to sign......"JJ"

Jagr or Jokinen?

Jussi would be a perfect guy to add to the lineup. Can play all 3 forward position. Can play any line. He's sort of on a downswing, but he such a versatile player that it's just kind of nice having him there. He's one of those guys in a lineup that can make a difference because if he's sort of deep on a roster, other team's aren't going to have an answer for him.

Put him on a 4th line with Archibald and Reaves...I dig it a lot.

That statement makes no sense...or is another clue to Cullen coming back. The absolutely only way I can see that working is if Rowney and Cullen are on the 4th line. Then you could get away with a center that doesn't kill penalties. I was in for having Sid and Geno kill penalties earlier in their career, not now. Too much risk and need to watch their minutes. We have to have good faceoff guys on the PK.

Quick question about NTC. Let me use Phil as an example.

When does he have to submit his list, was it July 1st for the proceeding season?

Can Phil amend the list at any time?

Are the Pens aware of the teams he will block before any negotiations start?

Thanks
