Waiting until the deadline is a mistake. More teams will be buyers, prices will have gone up, leaves less time for the new guy to gel with this team and potential linemates.

I dunno. I think you have to get something done by October. I'm sure JR has his eye on several players, but is being pretty tight-lipped about it.

And it might free up better options as teams fall out of contention. You have to think that the asking prices are ridiculous right now or something would have been done. JR is not coy about saying what he wants, nor about overpaying for it. Reaves is an example. If he did not overpay yet, the overpay asking price must be ridiculous right now.

I think that is why JR said that they might wait to address the hole at 3C. If the right deal is not there better to wait for better options later. Bottom six centers will be available later this year if it comes to that. Especially for a team who can take on a lot of cap space.

Vegas is still the best team to do a deal. They want picks plus they have a couple of nice centers and would be the best fit for a deal. Toronto isn't trading Bozak a NJ wants a arm and leg for that center. I would like Dallas but not sure they need anything to get their center Faksa.

This could be it, or it could be teams waiting to see who they get in free agency first. I would think some teams were waiting to see what happened with Thornton and Marleau, and some are likely still waiting on Radulov. Not to mention Duchene. I certainly don't think it's out of the question that JR is in talks with somebody who only has a center available if they signed Jumbo or trade for Duchene. Or that somebody is only interested in Sheary/Hagelin if they miss out on Marleau and Radulov.

Off topic hemsky just signed 1yr 1mil with Montreal. Really makes me appreciate how things are now,wasn't that long ago we discussed him at length.

I think they've played too much hockey to leave a hole at 3C for that much of the season and there's the constant threat of injury trouble. If Malkin misses his 15 games early in the season it could be ugly or if him and Crosby overlap.

Man..... Dallas really, really killed it.
Not much room left with Faksa, Ritchie and Oleksiak to sign, but cripes. They cleaned up.

Best forward (PLUS Hanzal) and best goalie (Bishop) available plus arguably the best D-man in UFA (at least defensively). Even Pittlick is a good find!

Instant west favorite - and should be REAL fun to watch.

Yeah, maybe they upgrade it in season or plan to push someone down but odds are there will be a new body there. I can't see JR patiently waiting until the TDL anyway.

I like the idea of Jokinen as a cheap 4C Cullen replacement.
