You can win plenty of regular season games with a dynamite line, PP and/or goaltending.

Chicago had back to back 1st round exits with the best line in the league. And I wouldn't put the Johansen line anywhere near the Panarin and Kane dynamic.

If their goal is to win a Cup, they're gonna need another guy who can score regularly on their 2nd line. And it ain't Turris.

Honestly Panarin is the player I expect them to acquire.

On a Pens related note, I've suggested Puljujarvi for Sprong in the trade forums a couple times but haven't gotten feedback.

Would that be something we would be interested in?

I've thought about this and i'm pretty meh on it.
I know he can play LW+RW but would he work well with Geno? Not sure.
And Sprong hasn't even gotten a spin with G yet.

The positive is that Puljujarvi is waiver exempt, so that's good, but I'm not really that fond of trading a good prospect for a guy who has had struggles so far. I'd only want to buy low on Puljujarvi, he's not near that point yet.

Poolparty is in about the same spot as Sprong is development wise. Hasn't had quite the success Sprong has had, but has more NHL/pro experience. I'd probably do it, but I'm not sure Edmonton would.

I'm not sure why people cling to prospects so much.

Sure, not every player is going to immediately be great. It's very rare for a younger player in the NHL to suddenly fit. We've been very lucky to have a ton of talent throughout the years that can instantly compete and dominate at a high level. Even if Sprong never becomes a good defensive player, offensively he should be able to overshadow that.

The issue the Penguins have is Sprong is a RW and we're basically stacked. Kessel isn't going anywhere, people whined for years for a player like Kessel and now people want to trade him? I even remember people saying they'd trade Kessel because "We have Sprong". Hornqvist and Rust just signed long-term contracts to stay here, they're not going anywhere either. Sure you could move Rust to LW if need be, but I don't see he should. Sprong needs to string together a few good games and build his confidence. There's no doubt that he has the tools to be an effective player, but there's a catalog of players that seemed to have all the ability and were never able to put it together.

that's an awesome team if the salary cap is done away with. Don't see how we fit Duchene without moving salary though.

1. Maatta for sure. Sheahan, I suppose. I suspect Brass goes elsewhere to make the rest of the money happen and get some assets to flip as part of the deal for Duchene.

2. If this pipe dream happenend-- and I say pipe dream because JR's love for Duchene notwithstanding the Pens do NOT have the pieces-- Duchene either plays on Sid's wing or as 3C.

Sprong will not get a spin with Geno, which is a shame because that's probably the best spot for him in the line.

Didn't know where else to toss this, but I have to give a shoutout to @Empoleon8771 for something non-Pens related...Alex DeBrincat.

I had a meeting with a client on Thursday night who wanted to talk future work at a local pub and I found out he was a Hawks fan. We had the waitress toss on the Rangers-Hawks game and Alex Debrincat definitely stood out. Client was excited about him and glad to have him and it was clear why.

I always remembered that name because I remember Emp talking about him as a potential draft pick in 2016 that would be good with Sid. We used the pick to get Phil, IIRC so no big but damn watching him made me sad we didn't pick him up. Not sure if we would have but that's irrelevant to be honest.

Anyway...off topic but...thought it was worth mentioning. Bonus, the client signed a two-year contract and that means I have to hire another employee to take on the work. It was tough rooting for the Hawks and reassuring him that Toews was still a great player...but it was worth it.

Every f***ing time I played NHL 15, Debrincat and Travis Konecny would score on my Sault Saint Marie Greyhounds. It was so f***ing annoying. Even my GF was like "f***ing Konecny again!" Be posting a shutout and these jerks would score with like 1:30 left. f***!

Not a scouting report by any means. lol.

Indeed.
Was just more of the Sprong vs Pulju thing, i wouldn't wanna give up Sprong in that scenario before seeing what he looks like beside G.

Sprong can LW, in fact I would bet he would be better at that position.

I think when Brassard is healthy they should go Sprong - Brassard - Rust.

Jake - Crosby - Simon
Hagelin - Malkin - Kessel
Sprong - Brassard - Rust
Sheahan - Cullen - Hornqvist

That is a dirty, dirty line-up if Sprong and Simon continue to develop. I don’t even know what you do at the deadline.

Like the Crosby clone idea.

More seriously, if that works out, that's pretty much dream land territory and the trade deadline is pretty academic

Lolol. I guess you maybe bring in someone that can push Sheahan or Cullen out?

I guess you could, but why? That line's been used as a 3rd line and not looked out of place, and their PKing has been exemplary. Even if you are happy looking to gain more of an advantage there (at the cost of possibly upsetting chemistry), you're basically looking for a really good 3rd liner. There's likely to not be many of them on the rental market.

The only thing you could do is bring in a Hagelin replacement. Kind of like what Nash did with Hartman last year.

That makes some sense. I'm not sure how much money we'd want to commit to a Hagelin-replacement at this point though.

Puljujarvi for Sprong might make some sense as a change-of-scenery type trade for both teams, but I doubt Edmonton would be interested.

I think Poolparty is a better player than Sprong right now, but he's clearly being handled incredibly poorly in Edmonton.
