Was it dumb? sure. Should he get a game or two? Probably . Should the coach sit him extra games on top of that? that’s insane talk.

There are cheap shots every week that are worse behavior than this including the headshot from Ludwinski in the same game
I agree with your first point, but I think that we have to draw a clear line between hockey plays in the heat of the moment like a hit from behind or a headshot and a non hockey play like spitting in someone's face. Every player in the league has made a 'dirty hit'. It's 2-4 games if I'm the commissioner, but that's just me.

The thing is even though it’s a hockey play, a dirty hit can end a career. Spitting is literally just disrespectful. I guarantee most would rather get spit at than take a headshot or a knee on knee.

Ludwinski got 2 games for his hit. As of now nothing listed for Parekh

I know a lot of hockey players who would prefer the latter, as weird as that sounds. It's a part of the game that they are prepared to deal with when they step on the ice.

Spitting is a bit of a new situation for the league so I'm sure that they are just taking their time with it.

And for clarity I don’t condone Parekh if he did spit. Should get a game or two. But it’s outrageous to think it’s worse than something that can actually physically harm someone and make them miss time. people are acting like he shot thier dog and burnt thier grandmas house down.

What will be worse is the physical harm handed out to him somewhere down the line. He is begging for it.

And I’m sure that player will be penalized. Parekh is a pest. They exist to get people to retaliate and take dumb penalties. He crossed a line here and likely will get a suspension . But being giddy hoping for physical punishment for a kid being a jerk is the brain dead bloodlust goon hockey that should have died in the 90s.

Worse, he spit at a person.

The league isn’t going to suspend Zayne Parekh the week of the CHL/NHL top prospects game….

There’s just no way

Maybe if it was a Soo Greyhound… haha jk

I honestly bet they don’t suspend him at all.

Any video of this?
I have no video but it was called so I can't see them letting it go. They are due to play in Windsor Thursday night but he and Greentree will likely not be back in time. So a 1 game would be a rather convenient suspension. But I'll go out on a limb and say 2 games for his first time.

I don’t think he is eligible to play until the league makes a decision. With that said, he likely is off the hook. Tge only other possibility is that he misses the prospect game.

I don’t think they will postpone the decision, that’s unethical.

The Soo
some fair points being made by all sides on the issue.

i'd trend towards a 1-2 game suspension as I agree that infractions that put a players safety such as a dirty hit are far more egregious and deserve stiffer penalties but a message must also be sent that spitting is entirely unacceptable. smarten up kid.

The spitting wasnt on the Chl stream and wasnt noticeable during the game live for people in attendance. The linesmen i believe caught it and went and told the ref.

They've already sent out promotional tweets that include Parekh (or his jersey/locker plate) in plan view. I don't think they plan on suspending him for the prospects game.

I also want to preface this with the fact that this is not an accusation but, what if someone said something that made Parekh react the way he did? Like yeah he's a bit of dick sometimes but I doubt he's spitting on people for the heck of it. Refs don't hear anything but see Parekh spit. Kick him out. If no ref heard anything, you can't go back and do something on hearsay. Maybe they call it a wash and nothing comes of it? I still think it'll be a couple games after Wednesday but we'll see.

It happened right at the blueline at the end of the second. He was engaged with a couple fronts - Hache was there as well. The one that reacted was Vaccari - after he skated by he turned around and hit/shoved Parekh - so not sure if he spit then vaccari reacted or he did something that made vaccari react and then spit -- that's when Hache and the Linesmen got between everyone.

It happened after the 2nd period ended. The linesmen was rigth there when it happened when Vaccari was skating from the net passed the blueline nearest to the Spirit bench. Vaccari who is very calm and measured in the way he carries himself lost it

I was around for two spitting incidents.
One prior to the draft; the spitter did not play another game ROS, was not drafted, and not invited to an OHL camp or jrA camp. As far as I know, the spitter did not play another organized game.
The second occurred during the spitters fourth semester. The coach kicked him off the team, and the school revoked all remaining bursaries.
One or two game suspension for spitting a few months after two kids received a life-time ban for bullying, I would be shocked.

I’ve long thought Parekh might be getting a little extra heat thrown his way by Don Cherry loving good old boys for obvious reasons. Some of the heat after Flint games is wild

So it’s been confirmed to me that he spit on both Quinton Burns and Luke McNamara.
Which makes sense why Burns became so unhinged during the game.

I've played with lots of guys who weren't well liked. I've also played against lots of former teammates. I cannot fathom this scenario ever unfolding.

I don't think spitting should ever be your "go to" if someone says something and if it is then you need to re-evaluate how you handle your crap. Let's not defend any actions like this -- regardless of what was said or done because we can also condemn the actions that led to it as well - 2 wrongs don't make a right as grandma said.
